Before you go to Alta Bates Campus, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Berkeley emergency room think.
aurelia foster⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedDid me way better then highland I was actually seen correctly and giving the medicine I neededDermot O.⭐️⭐️The best part of my wife’s recent visit was the security guards which is why this review is getting 2 stars. Not only were they pleasant but they showed empathy when they saw why we were they. She started tearing up in the waiting room and the younger security guard ever so slickly slipped her some tissues as he was leaving for his shift. When we left they wished us well and told us our daughter is a precious gem. Disgusting rooms! There was dried blood on the floor, the bed frame looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in the past 10 years, andthe room just plain filthy. Terrible nurses! My wife is a RN so I know a bit about nursing but not nearly as much as her. They didn’t have a clue, complete lack of empathy, didn’t hook up the call button, left my wife exposed and bleeding in the hallway, 3 different nurses over the course of the 6 hour visit, they didn’t even take her temp which is basically nursing 101. Doctor was tweaked out the first visit but the second visit he had slightly normal bed side manner. Ultra Sound tech demonstrated she didn’t bother to read the chart because she didn’t even know why she was there as she began looking at the wrong area of the body. If this you are experiencing a non life threatening emergency I reccomend driving to Summit in Oakland and avoiding this accident waiting to happen.ross stevenson⭐️⭐️⭐️Although I was seen quickly at first because I was possibly having heart issues, the follow up waiting time was well over an hour and a half. That being said, staff was pleasant and once I finally saw the doctor, she was great.Lesley Bell⭐️⭐️If you have a real, time sensitive emergency while other urgent cares are not open, go elsewhere. I waited for almost 6 hours before being seen. The only reason I’m leaving two stars instead of one is because all but one of the individual staff members were very kind and reassuringtre murillo⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery kind and attentive staff. Yes, if you are there for a relatively less serious ailment, your wait can be 6+ hours. This is how emergency rooms operate. Gotta treat the most critical patients first, and staff is not unlimited. That’s reality.Jason NovotnyDefinitely don’t go here if possible. $1500 visits if paid the same day, $2800 otherwise but of course nobody will tell you until aftewards. Expect to wait 4 hours for a 10 minute visit. This place is proof positive why US healthcare is a joke compared to any other developed country.Estella Hunt⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis is the BEST ER to go to in the area. The Physician’s Assistants check you out well and order diagnostic tests and scans that you wouldn’t get at most hospitals. Thanks to that, they’ve caught some serious medical issues that would have gone unnoticed until it was too late. They listen to you, teach you and find specialists for you to follow up with.Mohamed HusseinLong waiting times, unfriendly staff, and very busy all timeTasha BowensI would give this place a 0 ⭐️ because first off I came here to be treated for severe body pain that wouldn’t go away the triage nurse gave me attitude saying that it’s not enough beds and that I had to wait and this place is empty with like 3 people that went before me I feel discriminated against due to the pain I’m in and couldn’t get any help and first they told me it would be like 1/2 hour to and hour and it’s been dam near two hours this is unacceptable and this hospital people should not go to if your really sick this place is ghetto and the security to I’m very upset and disappointment I got there at 1:45am and it’s now 419am it’s like really nobody in the waiting room but me and a homeless man they trying to kick out I’m never coming back here ever and if I was you seek help else whereIrene JUNGThis place has ridiculous system I waited for more than 5hours and they keep calling the people’s who came later than me because they complained. They were not dying and doesn’t look sick at all. They laughed at the waiting section and complained about the waiting and got in earlier than me.Joo IreneIt’s take more than 5hours to enter the room to see the doc. I won’t recommend this place to anyone unless you don’t have other choice. They calling randomly whatever they want. I’m 100%sure the person after me wasn’t sick at all.a google userThe Doctor Who is half Asian by the name of Stephanie will refuse to treat you just because she doesn’t like you as a person it seems as if she’s the only doctor that works there and my relative need a treatment but Stephanie kept refusing to treat her she was in the emergency room three times I had to scream at her in order to give her some type of treatmentJojo Ferocious chihuahuaThis is a bit of a story but I think it’s pertinent in its entirety. I had a horrific experience at this ED yesterday. I have a complicated medical history, which includes a potentially life threatening illness. I’m at VERY high risk for a heart attack. I have been having several troubling symptoms for several days that would be suggestive of a mild heart attack but they didn’t happen all at the same time so I attributed it to other things. Yesterday I lost my balance and tripped over something, getting a significant blow to the head on the hardwood floor. I take blood thinners. People like me are at risk for a brain bleed if we get hit in the head so we need to get medical attention afterwards to make sure that isn’t happening. I called my doctor to let him know what has been going on and he told me to call 911. I took Lyft instead as I didn’t want The drama of an ambulance or the copay for one. That was a mistake. When I arrived I signed in complaining of chest pain and a resulting fall with a blow to the head and I take anticoagulants. She had me take a seat. The ER was fairly quiet. I waited. I waited more. After a 1/2 hour I informed the receptionist that I was having active chest pain radiating to my jaw and ear and asked if I was going to ever be seen. From experience I know that chest pain patients are put in a wheelchair and taken right back to start tests. She then went to the back. I don’t know if she finally informed someone about my condition…a nurse immediately came out and yelled “who is here for chest pain?” So much for Confidentiality or even knowing my name. They said they were going to put in an IV and do an ECG. They did the blood and ECG but no IV was started. My blood pressure was approximately 160/100. Pretty high for me. I was in a triage room of some sort still when A doctor ( I think) came in my room. I didn’t hear him when he said who he was. I attempted to tell him what had been going on with me but he didn’t seem to have time to listen. He did not examine me in any way nor did he make eye contact. He was not rude or mean, just disinterested. A nice lady came to get me from CT. We WAlKED what seemed like a long distance, to the CT scanner. I was feeling terrible and having trouble keeping up while we walked. On the way back I asked if they always make chest pain patients walk all over the hospital. She was apparently unaware I was having chest pain. She put me in a dirty room full of chairs. I felt afraid and neglected. Then the X-ray tech came and was going to have me hike to X-ray. I apologized and said I didn’t exactly feel up to the walk. I was dizzy, nauseous and in considerable pain. I sat there for I don’t know how long without anyone checking on me or telling me what was going on. At this point I began to feel unsafe, angry and I must admit teary and panicky. I felt so terrible. I finally got up and went home because at the time I felt I would be better off there. At least I could lie down!! On my way out I noticed numerous wheelchairs and empty treatment rooms. I have chronic illnesses and I have friends with the same issue. We all have ER stories just like mine. We are routinely mistreated in emergency departments. We feel resented and neglected by staff. Sometimes we are yelled at and belittled. We are sent home without adequate treatment or comfort measures. Some of us just don’t get emergency medical attention anymore because of stories like this. I am also a retired/disabled RN. I do not usually disclose that when I’m in the hospital because sometimes it can result in even worse treatment. Having recently moved to Berkeley, I was hopeful that Alta Bates might be kinder and more diligent. Last night proved that it isn’t It seems understaffed with very stressed out and perhaps burned out health professionals. It is dirty ( floors, baseboards, walls and overflowing garbage). I won’t be back unless there is absolutely no other choice. If you must go there I would strongly advise bringing an advocate who will help make sure you get appropriate care.DANIEL ALVARENGA⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was treated for kidney stones. I was seen immediately. I was discharged after I told the doctor and nurse I felt fine.Abdulhafez AbdullaI WOULD RATHER DIE!! THEN GOING THERE AGAIN. 3 HOURS AFTER CHECK IN AND WE HAVEN’T EVEN WENT IN YET. THIS IS MY FOURTH EXPERIENCE THERE AND THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. RESPONSE TIME AT THE GRAVE YARD IS QUICKER!!!A⭐️⭐️The staff here were rude and incompetent. They cared very little about the comfort of the patient. They didn’t listen when I explained that my friend was experiencing a kidney stone. They insisted I was wrong and put her through several unnecessary tests only to determine that I was correct. When they diagnosed her with the kidney stones they rushed us out of the room, insisting that we hurry and discharge. On our way out my friend was still vomiting due to her pain, so we grabbed a few vomit bags which were taken from us promptly. We were scolded for taking them. I don’t recommend this place if you are looking for compassionate and appropriate medical care.Teri Carmichael⭐️⭐️My mother-n-law who is diabetic, recently went to emergency to be checked out because her leg had become swollen and painful over night. She could barely move it. The doctor in the ER spent no time examining her, didn’t touch the leg or anything. After about two hours being there, the doctor comes in and says “good news”, we don’ t have to worry…there is NO BLOOD CLOT. Sent her home with some water pills, potassium, and instructions to keep her leg elevated and contact her primary Dr. After a few days of taking the water pills and staying in bed, her leg was even more painful. She went to Summit where they actually did x-rays and other test and guess what they found? Blood clot and infection in the leg of a woman with diabetes who the ER Dr at Alta Bates said did not have anything to worry about. Where did the previous Dr get her information from you say. She merely looked up some x-rays my mother-n-law had done a month ago. As if things don’t change in a persons body over a the course of a month. If she didn’t have the mind set to go to another hospital, she may be laid up in a coma right now from the blood clot traveling to her brain. Way to go Alta Bates. Show the people in the community just how much you really care about them and their issues. If you go to Alta Bates ER, get a second opinion.Sfhenska Semoloni⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe Doctors and nurses were amazing. From ER to the 6th floor. I had an allergic reaction to a med while in the hospital & the nurses were kind, supporting and fast. Thanks a lot. keep up the great work.Laurie HsuIf i could give the birth center of this hospital a minus 5 stars i would! Giving birth and my stay in this hospital was my worse experience! First of all lets start by the day i gave birth. I came in with contractions every 2 to 3 min but i was only dilated to a 3cm the keep me for 1h or so and send me back home on a wheelchair it was around 5am in the morning they wanted to give me a shot of morphine to calm down the pain of the contractions but i declined it. When i got home i start to throw up and feel dizzy. My husband drove me back to the hospital right away it was 7am when i got admitted they checked me and i was a 10 and babys head was coming out. They sent me to the delivery room right away but my dr didn’t show up before 8.30am she took all her time to get her tools ready. Baby was out at 9.09am after only 2 pushes. This hospital believe that a 1st time mom can be in labor for 48hrs but i told them all the women in my family give birth within 10hrs even for their first. After come the stay in the hospital. You are tired enough and getting tour baby to sleep at night isn’t easy but nurses will come to check on you every 2hrs and wake baby hubby and you. So we changed insurance and are now with kaiser. I do not want to deal with this hospital never again!Cymen Vig⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️My wife and I had our first (and only so far) child here and the staff is great.
