Before you go to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Boston emergency room think.
Karine Ribeiro⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI don’t know why so many bad reviews but i have been there at least 6 times in the past 12 months and i absolutely think this place is a five star facility. I get in and out fast the nurses get you checked in right a way and you get to be seem by the best doctors in the world. I thank God that i have access to this great Hospital and to tell you the truth it is the only one i have 100% confidence to bring my little ones to.Deborah Robinson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedA family member received excellent care. The diagnosis was prompt and the medication was effective. The new entrance way is attractive, and includes a waiting area with sofas and a coffee shop.Jodi McCarthyI am currently a patient here with severe kidney stone pain. It took 3 hours to get blood drawn about 3.5 hrs for them to do an ultra sound when they should have just a ct scan for better imaging and accuracy of the size of the stone. The staff is nice and friendly but, it takes forever to get anything. By the time I actually got into a room it had been 5.5 hours and it took another 1.5 to get any pain meds. If you’ve never had kidney stones you wouldn’t understand but, it is worse than giving birth to babies. Also I have stones on both sides had already been in a hospital on my vacation or shall you say no vacation and was told I had stag horn kidney stones on the right side the size is 25mm which in kidney stone land is enormous and a blockage almost went septic now I’m back to Boston and before I could even make my appointment with the urologist I wound up here at the ER for extreme pain on the left side. I have yet to receive enough pain medication to even be out of pain. The nurse had said let me know when your feeling the pain come back because we want to stay on top of it before it gets back to where it was when you arrived. Lets just say I paged her told some girl that supposedly told her and 1.5 hrs later she shows up and gives me something different and its not working. Wide awake in pain almost midnight she’s gone someone else is my nurse have no clue who she is and still no answer or medication for the pain. This place is slow very poorly managed and all you do is wait wait wait, if the nurse doesn’t want to deal with you they send in some young girl or guy to take a message and you hear nothing back for hours. I have been to this hospital before to see specialists and it has always been a very good experience, the ER SUCKS!Cedric WagerI’ve been in the waiting room for a few hours now waiting for my girlfriend’s mother to be discharged from the ER. A homeless man comes in pretends to check-in and proceeds to sleep in the waiting room. I thought I was at a hospital not a homeless shelter.Kekecv SantosThe worst er to go to. After waiting 5 hours i asked the lady how much longer it was going to take she said probably more 4hours. I told her you can take me out of your danm chart. I could’ve stayed home and treated myself and save my time. Won’t be going there anymore.susan santeeBeen waiting for my husband to be discharged from the ER….going on 8 hours now. EIGHT HOURS!! Ridiculous!Lajla LamadzemaNurses here are horrible !! Many of them in wrong field for sure! I am actually disgusted !!Mila MendozaThe worst in town! If you really have an emergency- go elsewhere. My husband was already diagnosed with appendicitis. He had all tests and diagnosis in place before showing up to BUDMC ER. It took 7h before they get him in for surgery. After surgery they overdosed his pain meds, cause extreme nausea. Did not transfer us to recovery room as the insurance is paying for. After realizing their mistake we were checked in a room and then another almost dying from heart failure and infection was moved in the same room. Mind you our insurance covers private room so they were going to scam the insurance. No doctor came to see my husband for 14h after the surgery until I made a huge issue. Miraculously a doctor showed up. They were going to scam the insurance without providing any medical care for my husband. Save your life and go elsewhere.Laurie Ostapovicz⭐️⭐️Dont expect to get food from room service anytime soon. Took over 2 hours to get breakfast. Not that great for a new diabetic. Otherwise the medical staff were attentive and professionalcindy connellyRoads have changed and no access from Francis street. Needs updating!Halima AbdiWhat kind of ER spent 5 hours with no Dr seen. I spent 5 hours sitting at the lobby waiting to call my name.Danny Papes⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Walked in at 1am on a saturday needing 4 stitches, it ended up being about a 4 hour visit. Not the worst trip to an ER but not the smoothestAlisha BanksThe Emergency Department Is The Worst, Trust You Would Probably Be Dead Before You Get Seen, That’s How Long They Take. Never Again! Abdallah AlQudahStupid information in emergency only jut two go with patient very stupid!romira CalderonThe worst ER ever!!!!Staff kept stating we busy but there were only few people in the waiting area.Didn’t seem busy at all .My sister was feeling so sick she has stomach cancer was is so much pain when i told them that they didnt care. All they kept saying is there’s a long waitNasim SoltaniTerrible! My husband was transfered here in an ambulance from his work. They did not let me into the emergency room. They just kept saying “he is OK!” I did not know what was happening to him the whole time.Sussan MarrFront desk guy is SO RUDE. This is an EMERGENCY room where people come in worried about their family members and he seemed like he doesn’t even care about anything. FYI I’m was here on 8/4/2019 around noon-1:30pm.Pedro WerebeEmergency room took over 6 hours! How do they call that an emergency room?! The receptionists were very vague about time and even gave attitude to sick patients! I walked out because i was feeling 10x worse than when i walked in and they couldn’t even be bothered to ask throughout the wait how i was doing! Is this really how hospital staff conduct themselves in Beth Israel with sick patients?joaquim marquesWe waited for 7 hours to get blood work and a CT scan. TerribleAngel MendezI arrived at 6 AM with excruciating pain in my knee. I had an arthritis flare up and it was Christmas Eve, I could not withstand the pain. After waiting for hours in pain, the doctors were going to send me home with a leg brace. My knee was the size of a football from so much inflammation, relieving this pain by removing some of the inflammation with a needle is a simple task that does not take much time. After holding unbearable pain from 6-7 AM until noon the doctors came and removed a small amount of fluid from under my knee, leaving a ton of fluid above my knee. Instead of releasing the remaining fluid they just injected me with a temporary pain numbness, gave me crutches and brace and good luck with ya! Never mind the fact that the whole time I was laying in the hallway and not a proper room, procedure was done in hallway as well. This place has become disgusting, did not feel like a patient in America, never, ever again. I feel bad for my insurance whom I am sure will be charged as if I was treated like a real person.Kws BostonAbsolute worst! Why did i come here? Oh because i was here around 3 years ago and it was a totally different experience. Today was an ER nightmare. Rude, snarky nurses, condescending drs who order all kinds of tests without discussing with you. Wait for hours and hours, 2 hours to be discharged when the place wasnt that busy. Never to return again… What in the world happened to that awesome ER 3 yrs ago. These people, every desk and role could use some training from mass gen. Its clear they’re all still in early training. All ERs would have to be closed before i would ever come back.matthew deveau⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVisting my dad great place everybody working there was kind and informationallJulius Aguilos3 hrs. of wait….and still waiting. Malkia KendricksThe service is horrible, I asked for assistance to get my brother to the bathroom a half our later he soiled himself, then he had to lay in it for another 20-30 minutes. We had a shared cubical for the first two hours, then he was put in the hallway where again he had to use the bathroom and no one came for 45 minutes. This is not the emergency room to come to.MARTIN CHAN⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThank you for help with me feel better I got out of the Er today at 6:55amKristy YouFront desk staff are SO RUDE and disrespectful. We all tried visiting my father here and we didnt know that only 2 or 3 people were allowed in the patient room. When my aunt explained that she was just in there with the rest of my family, the person at the front desk was letting us through and then another staff stopped us saying we needed a badge. Thats when the person at the front desk got up and made a big scene saying that there’s too many people and we all cant go in. He even laughed at us when my aunt tried explaining that my family were all just in there a few minutes ago and that it wasnt a problem before and then he kept saying it doesnt matter, only 2 people are allowed. He laughed in our faces. The front desk staff at the emergency center here are just so disrespectful. UPDATE** even though this was awhile back, I just want everyone to know how terrible this place is. When my dad was finally out of surgery and recovering, one day my sister and I went to visit. He was actually crying about how much pain he was in and kept clicking the button for help and the nurse on duty assigned to my dad was NOWHERE to be found. I remember her name was jordan because i even heard the front desk paiging her over and over again. 2 other nurses came in and had no idea what to do with my dad (understandable because they werent asigned to him) so they just gave him some pain meds to try and calm him down. His nurse didnt show up until 3 HOURS later when we were leaving and thats when my aunt confronted her saying they called so many times for her and she never came in and while my other family came to see him as well, not one person came to check on my dad.Patricia Jibben⭐️⭐️My review is of the recent experience that I and my injured husband had at the ER department. Is is my opinion that Beth Israel ER is a dangerous place to go if you are in need of emergency care. If you are in a lot of pain, you will stay in a lot of pain for hours upon hours. It is difficult to assess if the doctors are as competent as they expressed to me. We were told we were in the “best hands” numerous times but the errors, misinformation, condition of other patients, and the length of time between receiving treatment after being seen by the doctor suggest that their arrogance is unwarranted. My husband and I spent almost 24 hours in the ER. In that time, I saw a dead body, exposed for several hours. I heard a security guard assault a disgruntled patient while (the guard) uttered off a string of profanities. -Very professional! The patient was expressing what we were all feeling that they were being neglected and abused. Basic care for patients was not provided. I feel that the issue surrounding the inadequate care is a management issue. I think that Beth Israel intentionally understaffs the ER and does not provide adequate equipment nor support staff to effectively manage the volume of people that are seen there. This situation leads to errors and a lower standard of care. Here are some examples: There are no chairs in the ER rooms and I stood for most of the time I was there with my husband. A doctor or nurse would, on average, come into the room every 1.5 hours and every time one would say, “I’ll find you a chair.” For some reason, at Beth Israel, doctors and nurses, are running around, looking for chairs. I feel that an orderly, or a physicians assistant could accomplish this task. But no, the most educated, and best suited for this task at Beth Israel are Harvard doctors. My husband should not have been allowed to walk but when we called for help to go to the bathroom, no one ever came. I left to go find water. My husband went to the bathroom after I left him, he walked in front of a nurses station and he told me that when he did, a nurse yelled out to him, “Are you sure you want to do that?” My husband responded to her, “Yes.” FYI -hospital nurse, he has been potty trained since he was a toddler, he felt compelled to use the toilet instead of peeing on the gurney. When I returned to see him walking back carrying his IV bag, I saw a doctor taking away the chair a different one had brought me. Amazingly, the help call was always cancelled before he got back from the bathroom. I also helped a man leave the bathroom, he was in a wheelchair and carrying a urine sample. He was unable to manage getting through the bathroom door with the sample, while in a wheelchair. I walked past the nurses station, to help him because he was being ignored by staff. My husband received conflicting information regarding his condition. He did not see the same physicians during his stay. One told him that he could eat but did not update the “system” so when he asked for food, he was refused until the nurse, “could check to see if what we were saying were true.” Another doctor told him he had a skull fracture, this was the fourth doctor into our stay and we hadn’t heard that before so we questioned him and upon reviewing the notes the doctor stated that he “got confused.” (OMG! Is my husband going to die here?). It is my opinion that the ER is mismanaged, understaffed, and as a result, my husband endured more pain and inadequate care than if we would have gone to a different ER. I believe that this management style creates a lack of empathy from staff; they are trained to ignore patients calls and ignore basic human needs like, food, water, and a bathroom yet they are able to find chairs very well! I estimate that the doctors and nurses spent about a minute for every hour we were there, contemplating my husband’s condition. I have been to great ER’s and this is far from a good place to go. I recommend avoiding Beth Israel ER, especially if you have good health insurance!Ellen KaganYesterday I visited my sister and her husband at the BIDMC ER. They had to be there because he is very sick and had to be seen right away. They got there at 1:00 p.m. and were not seen for SIX HOURS. The patients were hanging from the rafters – there must have been 75 patients in the waiting room. There was no help – my brother-in-law who is 75 – needed lab work badly – only one nurse came out to see who needed lab work and still nothing happened. I was with my sister and her husband for TWO HOURS and if I had not seen this for myself, I would not have believed that this could happen in a noted Harvard-teaching hospital – it was like a Third World country there. I know that the health system is bad, but this was a horror. My advice to you: avoid the BIDMC ER if you can. It is a disgrace.Junie NelsonIf I could give this place negative stars, I would. The staff here are unbelieveably rude. After waiting 2 hours just to be told it would be another 5 hours until I saw a doctor, I asked to leave and was not allowed to. I was illegally barred from leaving by the same nurse, despite being told by another that it was okay. Only when I asked for an AMA did the nurse remove my IV port, but not without berating me– a barely 18 year old there alone on a recommendation from a nurse practicioner– for making a bad decision and being an inconvenience. She continued this until she drove me to tears. Even then she continued to be extremely curt and rude. DO NOT GO HERE. Go to Brigham and Women’s or Boston Children’s.connor blaschakBeen waiting 4 hours for a doctor to see my mother. Nobody here seems to be working urgently.JHC⭐️⭐️This ER needs an overhaul from the actual building to the culture of the staff. Was there last night as patient on overnight shift. Nurses need supervision and need to be held accountable to standards of care and professionalism. It felt like being in a high school cafeteria at the mean girls table. To the nurse with the really short brown hair…since you were talking about this outside my room with the mean blond nurse who has a foreign accent…yes, you should be fired. To the blond nurse with foreign accent…how about you bring us sick and freezing patients some blankets instead of being rude and yapping about drama with your coworkers? I’m done with the BI.Jennifer Roberts5 hours and still waiting for an X-ray/cat scan. Employees are face timing, socializing, and texting. Still no word on how much longer. This place is garbage.LaKenya WebsterI brought my elderly grandmother to the emergency room to be seen and I’ve been waiting for over 4 hours and she has not been seen by a doctor. She has been laying on a stretcher for over 4 hours. No one told be what her status was while I waited. I had to inquire about the wait time and I was told 6 other patients would be seen before her. #ThishospitalneedstodobetterBen TouimiWaited for 3 hours to be seen. Every 30 min they tell you that you’re next. When I finally complained and asked how much longer it will take, they said “who knows maybe 3 more hours”. Ended up going to a different hospital nobody cared. I’ve never seen a staff so unprofesional with no regard for their patients. Never going back, if I could give 0 star I would.Juan Castaño⭐️⭐️⭐️3hour wait to be seen by dr. Then 2 more hours for paperwork and treatment. Make sure you bring something to do while you wait.Preston1+ hour from ER arrival for chest pain to first blood draw and another 2 hours after for a room. Patient cant even walk due to pain (10/10) and not even offered so much as a blanket or ibuprofin. How they keep anyone alive here is a mystery to me. This is criminal.alexis rosarioHorrible! On 4th of july my dad had a little too much to drink and fell backwards down the stairs fractured an bone on neck connected to spinal cord fractured nose and he was sent to this hospital on a helicopter from Lawrence General and when I got there they where ignoring him nurse seemed discusted, gave ne tge worst attitude, I told her to give me mouth swabs to moisturise his mouth about 7 times she said yea but I never got it and when he was coughing she said with an attitude whatvis he complaining about now with a bad attitude and it got to the point that he was choking on his own bloodin his mouth and she said to don’t spit so I looked at her like she was crazy and told my dad to spit it out because im not about to see my dad choke on his own blood. She thought my dad was still drunk and I told her he was drunkbin the afternoon and it is 4 am he isnt intoxicated likebhe was earlyer I know cause hes my dad I know when he is messed up the behavior in the moment is because he is hurt, broken bones and stomach burning and her response was so what is he doing now celebrating smh, I couldn’t believe she said that and I responded by telling her that I don’t know who she thinks my father is but he is not no bum he has a loving family and is a great caring dad he is not no bum he was just having a little too much fun on 4th of july so stop treating him like hes a nobody. This nurse was disgusted with my dad, I cant believe she is a nurse smh we need better people for jobs like this cand believe she treated my dad that way. Worst things happend but im just keeping it short, I wish I would of gotten her name but im going tobtry my best and find out asap because this cant stay like this.Boston WWe waited 3 hours before leaving without learning the results.
