Before you go to Medical West Freestanding, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Hoover emergency room think.
Morgan Cordell⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI have never gave anything a rating before, but this place was amazing. As soon as I walked in the door they got me into a room and every single nurse and doctor who seen me were so nice and friendly. You don’t see that very often in an Emergency Room or hospital period. This staff did everything they could to make me feel comfortable and in a timely manner. I was overall extremely satisfied & would recommend this place to anyone.James OwensUsed to be a great in and out place. Not anymore ! Now it’s the same as all the others slow and long wait times. Not worth driving out of your way to come here thinking it’s going to be quicker !Ashley ParvinI will NEVER be back to this hospital again! I have a sprained ankle and possible torn ligaments in my foot but because Carson Penkava did not see a break he refused to help me. They have NO MRI machine in the hospital. He told me not to go to American Family Care, basically insinuating they were dumb. He refused to help me with my pain, even though AFC said I needed to go to the ER. He said, I am not comfortable and will not write you pain medication. I was bitten by a brown recluse 2 1/2 weeks prior, that’s why I had pain medication from a previous illness. The charge nurse came in extremely hateful! All of the staff changed their ton when I got upset. They were all rude. I truly was in pain. No one believed me. Carson said, let’s get you crutches and I said great let’s do that ….he sat there a meant and said, you want be happy you want pills. I’ve never been treated so bad by a hospital staff in my life. I’m seriously thinking about taking this to court. I even told Carson that my orthopedic doctor called and I have an appointment set up for tomorrow on 11-08-2019. No ounce of empathy. They could of cared less and he never got my crutches. They told me to take Tylenol..like I haven’t tried that. Sooo, because they could not see a break and had no MRI, I was apparently seeking medication! Nope. They messed with the wrong Registered nurse!Devin JacksonDr. Denny is a terrible doctor. If you have him you might as well diagnose yourself. I went in for abdominal pain and vomiting for the 3rd time in 6months. He tried to convince me it was viral. I advised him that it wasn’t and something was wrong with my gallbladder. He spent 5 minutes trying to convince me that the ER could not do a test to determine if something was wrong with my gallbladder, which was a complete lie. I don’t think he knew about my BS in Biology and acceptance into Nursing School. Finally he ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound tech was really nice and informative. She was so surprised that they hadn’t ordered the test before because as she put it “they love ordering test around here”. Not sure if it was because I’m black or what; he didn’t want to order the ultrasound. Anyways, guess what the ultrasound found? I have gallstones and it wasn’t viral. The doctors at this hospital just like to treat symptoms and send you on your way. They could careless about the cause.Nashwan Muthana⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Everything is perfect inside, the staff, nurse, DR, hospital clean ,smells good.. the only problem in this hospital is they take toooooooooooooooo much time to let you out from the hospital, always when I go there they leave for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.. I hope in the future they can fix this.. God bless them, wonderful people..❤️James Sears⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI went in with chest pains and shortness of breath. Everyone was very kind and attentive, not only to just me, but also to my wife. While everyone was very nice, Nurse Holle and Dr. De Los Santos were especially so.Brad Harmon⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI’m writing this review because of the excellent experience that I had at this facility everyone was very polite very helpful and very attentive to my needs not to mention the prompt service that they provide when I first arrived I was taken straight back never even had to be seated I wish I could give them a 6 star because they went over and beyond I would personally like to thank the whole staff for everything I will definitely use medical center West in the future and I highly recommend them to anyone needing a emergency clinic in the facility is the cleanest that I have ever been in I usually don’t leave reviews but I just wanted to give credit where credit was d I hope this help someone else make the decision to give them a try..B Gamble⭐️⭐️⭐️I have used this ER several times. I am always happy with everyone here and they are always nice and caring. Last visit, I took my mother who rarely visits a doctor because we thought she had a stroke. The female doctor, Dr King, was very rude to my mother and actually rolled her eyes and became frustrated with my mom during the exam. I thought that very unprofessional for a physician. Maybe she was having a bad day, but I’ve noticed several have complained about her in reviews. She seemed very arrogant and like she would rather be anywhere but there. Very inappropriate. I gave three stars because everyone else was very kind during our visit.Meredith HepburnPrepare for rude staff and expensive tests. I personally will never use them again. Hoover urgent care is the way to go! The doctors there are much more personable and the staff are all amazing! Also, if you have UAB insurance this is not really part of UAB system the $0 copay definitely doesn’t apply nor do any of the other normal breaks for using UAB system; nor do the support staff have UAB training in greeting guests.Eric Thomas⭐️⭐️Great intake and triage staff, even down to x-ray technition. However female Dr. seemed convinced of minimal tendon sprain. Apparently full arm numbness, temperature variation and swelling lasting more than 3 weeks is of no concern when the patient isn’t screaming and moaning from pain. Definitely will contact physician for a proper follow up. All I want is care to ensure normal arm function to play with and care for my children.David KirkpatrickDon’t go here unless you want to be charged for things you not given and then have the people on the phone act like A holes. Had bill sent to collections that we were never notified of before being sent to collections. Will never use this place againtelbrax1Female doctor asked my mother, “Why are doing this elaborate work up of your heart if you came here complaining about your ankle. You didn’t tell me about your ankle.” All with this smirk on her face! While in pain, my mother is trying to tell her she was there for both and they both go together. If the doctor and others would take the time to read the documentation patients are asked to complete you would have seen her reason for visiting in black and white- white paper with black inked writing. The rude female doctor then asked again, “How do they both go together ?” My mom said, “They are both happening that’s what I mean. I am here for both.” It took all of me not to say anything to her that was in turn rude! As long as we have insurance, even if not, conduct the “elaborate test” and stop trying to be sarcastic or whatever you are trying to do. Rude as the day is long. Standing with her arms folded!!! Attempting to talk down on someone. Thank God, we went high when she went low!Kim Thompson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was seen immediately and treated very well by all staff. No complaints with the service I received.Kathy Webb⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedGreat care was given to my husband.Max Wood⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI visited yesterday for gash in my leg that required stitches. What a wonderful and caring place with smart people. I waited all of about 3 minutes to be sent to a treatment room. If you live within 10 miles of this place and have an emergency, this is, without a doubt, where you want to go!Judi Clark⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAbsolutely a fantastic experience at this Emergency room. The physical plant was so clean and orderly. The staff was so helpful and compassionate to my 89 year old father in a COPD email. I would highly recommend this medical facility..Sonya RogersThe worst I could not walk I had an infection and cancer!! They did no blood work no exam. Just kept asking me where I hurt and catherized me gave me pain meds and sent me on my way. Not equipped for true medical issues only minor problems.Amanda Knotts⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy husband had to come in due to a kidney stone that did not want to seem to budge… We we’re checked in, triaged, and seen by so many people in such a short time it almost felt as if we were doing something incorrectly. ER’s should always be that efficient. 1.5 hrs later we have a diagnosis, a treatment plan, and advice on future issues should they arise. This place is absolutely outstanding.Cheri Reid⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery impressed by Emergency Room staff on February 21, 2019. The staff and Dr. David Fuller were Awesome!!The Suns party of 6⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAwesome and friendly staff. Prompt service and went above & beyond caring for my son.Rebecca Shipp⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWent in tonight over my mouth swelling. And I’m from Louisiana. I must say this is the best emergency room I have ever been to! They was fast & actually cared & took the time to listen. The only thing I was confused about was they did no blood test are anything in that nature. And they ask for insurance after you have been seen. Hopefully what they said is wrong is the problem! I’ll update in a couple days if they was wrong. But my experience was really good here & the only reason I picked this one was the reviews. If I’m in this area that’s the hospital I will pick. Very clean & amazing staff.Sislak SistersThe staff are some of the rudest people ever. They have misdiagnosed me twice now.Jeff dungan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery friendly, caring people. I got in right away. Clean place as well. Nothing like the other location off of Academy Dr.! What a rat hole that was!Edward Ashcame in with second degree burn to my right knee. Commercial Hot Glue at 400 degrees. The staff was nice but no help. gave me a prescription for pain pills and antibiotics. They looked at my knee which was covered with hardened HOT GLUE, and said” I needed to go to the UAB Burn Center, but they close in 5 minutes, and don’t reopen until 8am.” Was told they could not remove the glue and the Burn Center would need to do it. Since the Burn Center was closed, I went home in terrible pain. I did call UAB ER downtown, The receptionist at the ER told me no one from the burn unit was they and would be back Friday morning at 8pm and to come in then. At that point I should have just gone to a different hospital, but the pain was so bad I couldn’t think. KEEP IN MIND THE HARD SHELL OF GLUE IS STILL STUCK TO MY KNEE. I waited until 8am and went to UAB ER. Just to be told by the burn staff ” we are here 24-7, and UAB West Dr. should have called and sent me straight to the ER downtown. So I will never go back.Katy Galloway⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI have never had such a wonderful experience with an emergency room visit. My son had fallen at school and I brought him here because it was close and I didn’t want to travel far with a kid with a head injury that had JUST stopped bleeding. It was a quick, semi-painless experience. They were so sweet to us and got us out as quickly as possible without us feeling like they were trying to get rid of us. I hope no one needs to go here but if you need emergency medical care then I highly recommend coming here.Jeremy ThompsonBefore talking to a doctor I was ordered a $3,000 CT scan. When the doctor finally got around to seeing me she told me nothing was wrong. She didn’t even give me a physical examination just wrote a subscription for something that I quit taking bc they weren’t relieving any pain. They do not care about your welfare they only care about how much money they can squeeze out of youMeaghan JohnsonIf i could give 0 stars I would . If you are young avoid this place. I have gone multiple times before for extreme pain ( have multiple cronic illnesses) and always treated like a druggie told myself I would never go back but I did today. (Its 5 minutes away from my house) I was having a allergic reaction to my medication .heavy breathing and every part of my body turned red. The doctor takes one look at me and said I don’t look red (all he did was look at my arm ) and that was it. Talked to me like I was crazy and seeking drugs. I started crying because he was extremely rude and talking down to me and I was having a panic attack. I asked him why he was giving me medicine if he thought nothing was wrong, he said ” you don’t want it you can refuse it. I don’t know why your upset .you can get it from the drug store , we will get your paperwork and you can go home.” Was extremely rude and talking to me like I was trash. Will not be going again.Andrea Burk⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedTreatment was quick! Staff was wonderful! If the need arises again, I’ll definitely go back! All the stars!!!!K Jay⭐️⭐️A few years ago, I went here and had a pretty decent experience. I wasn’t blown away by my nurse, but the doctor was great and the service was pretty quick. The most recent time I went it was a terrible experience. I had passed out at home, was having bad abdominal pain, and I was shaking like crazy. After Dr King asked me several times if I was using stimulants like Adderall (which I have never taken), she diagnosed me generalized anxiety. I told her I didn’t feel like she was listening to me at all. She didn’t lay a single finger on me one time, let alone palpate my abdomen. She did a urine screen, dismissed me as having anxiety, and sent me home. My nurse was wonderful and apologized for the doctor several times. I could tell he was used to trying to make up for her, and it also seemed like he was frustrated and embarrassed by her complete lack of care. I went home and when my appendix ruptured 7 hours later, I went to Brookwood and had a much better experience. This was a complete waste of a lot of money, let alone several hours in agonizing pain.Al Wilson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedStaff absolutely amazing, clean facility an amazing experience. In and out with six stitches. THANK YOUCarter Ross⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMost solid ER I’ve ever been to. Super convenient location with ample parking, almost no wait, attentive service, and modern equipment.kelley bland⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedEveryone at Medical West is so friendly and caring, from the check in at the front desk to the nurses and doctors. I have never had a more positive experience at an emergency room. Great experience.Cecil Reid⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedBest ER in town. Gave immediate attention to our needs. Very kind and courteous.Dewitt Hardee⭐️⭐️I have a fever and horrible cough with flu symptoms. Anyway I called to check to see how many people were in queue as I did not want to risk infecting others. So I called to ask and the receptionist would not tell me. I asked if she could give me an idea of the number waiting. She told me it was against policy and she hung up on me. No thanks, I’ll go somewhere else.Bradley Isbell⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedSuper friendly and knowledgable staff.shannon rinerThey were very rude and acted like I was an inconvenience to them. All around it was a horrible experience and the only reason I gave one star was because I couldn’t give any stars! If I were you I would stay away from this place very unprofessional.David Richey⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedJust got home from taking my daughter to Medical West. We were treated very kindly and professionally. We were taken back immediately. The facility was clean and comfortable. I am very thankful to have them as an option. Much better than any other emergency room experience I’ve ever had.Kimberly Martin – McClure⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI cut myself rather badly while cutting veggies and needed an emergency room. This one was close so I decided to give it a try. The staff was very courteous which was appreciated since I was stressed. I first saw the triage nurse and she bandaged my finger till the doctor could look at it. Since I was not a critical case, it did take about 45 minutes to be seen but that is understandable. The entire facility was clean and up to date. Once I was taken back, they were prompt in treating my injury and gave me detailed followup instructions. I highly recommend this facility.Rose LoucksAvoid this place like the plague! Went in for nausea they diagnosed it as a UTI… Not even remotely close. Everyone on staff was rude. Was charged $400 when I walked in the door when I expressed that I did not have the money to cover the $400 they said no problem you can’t leave the room until we get your discharge papers and you’ll be good to go. 20 minutes later still sitting in the room a doctor comes into the room diagnosis me after I told him the same thing. He then has the nerve to diagnose me with a UTI… I came in for nausea you idiot! Then these people have the nerve to send me a bill for the $400 which they told me I wasn’t going to be charge because they weren’t going to see me, then they have the nerve to charge me for a diagnostic fee on top of that as well as labs. When I have called repeatedly about the bill they refuse to call me back, then 2 weeks later they give me a call just to let me know there is nothing they can do about the bill and I should have been smart enough to know that emergency rooms are only for real emergencies and nausea really doesn’t qualify for that, but since I walked through the door, here’s your bill. This place is nothing but a group of scam artist. They don’t care about patience nor do they care about trying to diagnose you. You have better luck going to a vet! I am already letting everyone I know no about my experience and if you read this, please spread the word as fast as you can.Sherrie Clark⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFrom the moment we walked in until the moment we were discharged, we were taken care of quickly and professionally. Thank you Amy, RN, you were a great source of comfort and knowledge! If we are ever in the area and need care, this is where we will go. Top notch!Lindsey L⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedBest experience. They were fast and I didn’t have to wait to be seen. Very nice and caring staff.Jan Holcomb⭐️⭐️I have been here twice, once for my son and once for myself. During my son’s visit, the doctor had NO bedside manner and spoke about things in front of our son that she had NO right to talk about. During my visit, the nurse was great (same one, Jason) but again the doctor was rude and said about seven words to me and left. Terrible. Then the bills from the physician not the ER started coming. The office staff were friendly but they were not up front about billing. I paid 150 for the visit then started receivino more bills from the doctor not the ER. Yeah, the place was clean, but the way the doctors conduct themselves trump that. We will not be going back to this clinic. Do yourself a favor; pass this place and head to the hospital.Starling HardwickThis was my first time here, but I can tell you this, it will definitely be my last! The staff was very rude to me. My wife, daughter, and I walked into be seen about an hour and half ago. Once our names were called my wife and daughter headed to the back while I stayed behind to take a work phone call in their waiting area. Once I finished with my phone conversation over in the corner, I sat down and waited for them to call me. Once one of the women that works at the registration desk finally acknowledged that I was still the only one in the waiting room waiting to be seen, she snaps at me! She doesn’t even look up at me, but says, “are you ready to be seen now, sir?” I don’t say anything to her, because I am shocked by her tone. She then says to me, “if you don’t come on, then I’m going to delete you out of our system.” After that, I just left and still sit in our car waiting for my family to come out. I don’t care how sick I am, I will NEVER visit this hospital again after my experience here today and I suggest you all don’t as well.Rex TIf you don’t mind waiting 3+ hours. Then this place is for you.John Haggard⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedOnly had one experience here, but it was very pleasant. My wife was very ill one night and urgent care was closed so we came here [Caveat: this is not an urgent care facility, it is an ER and you will have to pay the higher ER copays, etc.] The check in process was very quick, the doctor saw her quickly and gave her the fluids and medicine she needed. They were very professional and efficient. The lab processed her results faster than any other facility I’ve ever been to.Louie Bello⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedArrived and was taken to the back right away. Seen doctor and all staff were very friendly and helpful. Very clean even bathrooms also. Very happy to recommend and come back. Great place!Rebekah Noel⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe staff took wonderful care of us when we had a very scary event with our 13 month old toddler that required multiple stitches on his face. They got us in immediately with no wait, and did a great job putting the sutures in. They also displayed the knowledge on how to properly restrain a baby boy for this procedure. Thank you for caring for my sweet baby!Mike Miller⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI’ve been seen there twice within the last two weeks and each time I received excellent care. In my experience, (your’s may vary) I went up to the registration desk, told the reception nurse my problem(s) and was immediately taken back to a ROOM! I never even saw the waiting area except as I was passing by it on my way to the back. Once in a room, I was seen by a nurse within minutes. On both occasions I saw a doctor very quickly and on my most recent visit was put through a battery of tests (chest x-ray, Doppler imaging of the veins in my lower extremities, EKG, IV blood draw, chest CT scan and IV meds) all within 4 hours time. Each person who provided me care was very friendly and accommodating. On my last visit, Dr. Patel was the physician on-call and his bedside manner and kindness were amazing. This is the ONLY ER I’ll go to from now on if I have the choice, No long waits, no rude staff. Only professionals giving the best in healthcare services.Alison ClaunchI was dropped off at the door when I arrived, and they put me in a room immediately (noticing I was in extreme pain), which was great. Then it all went downhill. I could not open my eyes (I had a terrible migraine), so I saw nobody but answered questions as best I could. After what was probably several minutes, they gave me a shot of Toradol (after I’d explained that none of my normal migraine meds had helped). Toradol is basically like prescription Ibuprofen and did NOTHING. Then they left me alone. I was calling for help, but nobody came. Again, I could not open my eyes b/c the pain was so bad. I felt around for a call button, but there was not one. The registration lady finally came in and saw me in distress and went to get a nurse. Still nobody came. My husband arrived later and went and got a nurse then. The doctor came in and asked if the Toradol had helped (as if my crying, dry heaving, and inability to open my eyes weren’t sufficient to answer that question). He then gave me something stronger that helped my pain enough that I could open my eyes and function. I ended up being there for 2 hours and spent most of that time in agony. I paid the $150 copay on my way out, but then I received an extra $35 bill for the DOCTOR, b/c he bills separately. So I paid $185 to be treated so poorly. I will not go back here again.Aaron Dettling⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedRecently I had to take my wife to the freestanding ER in the middle of the night. The people here were so courteous and professional. My wife was seen immediately, and two nurses and a doctor immediately sprung into action, asking questions, listening, checking. I had to leave the room and told the nurse to take good care of my wife. She said, “we got this.” So much packed into that little statement. So overall five stars, although we haven’t gotten a bill yet. Our lousy obamacare policy that we pay $1500 a month for will probably pay little or nothing, but I guess that’s another discussion for another day.Kendra Hopson-ClarkRegistration was quick and easy. Allison was great. The only issue is when a patient comes in with breathing issues then some type of precautions need to be taken. Was left in exam room with no type of breathing treatment or anything.Anaeisha DixonI WILL NEVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE GO THERE AGAIN! I went there and describes my symptoms to the ER doc and the first that she asked was “Well, how do you know that it’s not a regular cold?” ♀️ “I’m not trying to say that you’re not sick or anything!” What in the world woman? Have you lost your mind? She proceeded to tell me that she could not treat me. I guess because she didn’t that that I was “sick.” She told me to take some Claritin-D. When I finished to check out, I found out that my co-pay was $200! I went to MedCenter in Hoover across from Publix and they were wonderful. They gave me steroids, antibiotics, and nasal spray. They found that I had an ear infection and a bad sinus infection. They washed me ears out to thoroughly check them. To put the icing on the cake,my co-pay was only $20. Please do not go here for any service. DO NOT GO HERE ESPECIALLY NOT FOR YOUR CHILD!Peter Elerk⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Very good and friendly . Takes less than a minute to be treated .Tammy Contorno⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedCleanest, most helpful and friendliest staff. Would definitely recommend!mandy blasche⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe’ve been a couple of times for asthma and allergic reactions. Everyone has always been very nice. It’s unusual to find so many personable people in one place. Because of my child’s issues with allergies, I always have to be careful what is given to him. I really appreciate the doctor, Pa, and nurses listening to me, being understanding, and working with me and my child in our particular situation. This place will continue to be my first choice for emergency care. Thank you.Seterria Stringer⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedStaff is caring and its not a long wait at all. Will definitely be returning.Diana Long⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI took my daughter after a fall for treatment of a broken arm. The staff was kind and efficient especially pleased with the front desk clerks and the Nurse practitioner on that night. Pleased to have had a good experience with treatment during a scary time for my little girl.Ginger Simpson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedGreat experience! In & out in record time for an er visit. Top notch Care.erin M⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedStill have never had to sit in the waiting room, got seen right away every time best care everNicole T⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedQuick. Professional. Nice.. Very clean and neat. I read the positive reviews but was still apprehensive. It’s not over rated. They got me straight back, Dr was right in. I felt like a person at the front desk and not just a number.Del Hiestand⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery helpful and courteous. Went for an acute allergic reaction that was getting worse. RN was wonderful, front desk was helpful, and overall a good experience for what it was. I was there at about 1915 on 1/29/2017. I hope I never have to go again, though!
