Memorial Emergency Center – Julington Creek Reviews

Before you go to Memorial Emergency Center – Julington Creek, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this St Johns emergency room think.

Robyn Marie Goode⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedDr Blake was the kindest health care practitioner I have ever seen. This ER is more than 5 stars!! I would give it 100 if I could! Sally was awesome too. I had to take an ambulance there and I was very shaken up, and having a really hard time. They helped me relax and meeting them was the silver lining of the whole experience.Chris Roach I was a patient of Paul Fraley at Julington Creek ER! The Nursing staff was great, Dr. Paul gave me nothing for my condition, which he said was a flair up with my Pancreas and did nothing else but send me to the hospital. I was in bad pain and the nurses new it but he did nothing! I do not like him, he should not be practicing medicine. Memorial should reevaluate his skills! Thanks, Vicki MooreMatt Winstead⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedDr. Blake and the staff were great! Very caring and empathetic. They took great care of my fiance after we were in a car accident and truly made us feel at ease! Plus, we were the only people here, so we were seen right away!stevie wilde⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis is the only Full Service ER I will go to! staff here (especially Dr. Steven Blake, Crystal, Richard, Kimberly, Jenna and the Radiology Tech) are all competent and wonderful. I was terrified of a CT scan contrast and Dr. Blake walked me through it and went above and beyond. I have never received treatment with such great bedside manner in a long time, as I did here. The building is clean, the security guards are all very kind, and the service is quick and professional. I highly recommend.Matthew Taylor⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFast service with excellent and quick diagnosis and treatment. They are able to provide all emergency services. This is an ER, not an urgent care or lower service.Lynzi Chambers If I could give zero stars I would. If you can avoid this place NEVER go there. Lied to me about blood results, did not listen to actual symptoms, and could have caused major problems had things been different. Dr. Fraley is worthless in visits or actually talking to patient.Eric Falkenberry Last February I took my older son to this facility, because he was having trouble breathing. The Doctor and staff were very competent and professional. They performed a routine white blood cell test, chest x-ray, diagnosed him as having lower lobe pneumonia, and gave him a shot of antibiotics. Everything was great until my insurance company contacted me. This facility billed my insurance $6,000 for what was maybe 1.5 hrs. of treatment. I was told that just walking into the facility carried a charge of $2,000. After insurance adjustments and me protesting the amount, we ended up paying a little less than $3,000. During this process, I was warned that if I did not pay the full amount, Memorial would put a lien on my house. I don’t know that they can legally do that, but I didn’t take any chances and just paid the bill. To put this somewhat in perspective, my son, who is now away at college, recently had another issue where he went to the doctor (this time an Urgent Care facility not owned by Memorial) and was diagnosed with a sinus infection that was starting to turn into bronchitis. He did not get an x-ray, but as before, a round of antibiotics was all he needed to get better. The total cost from the Urgent Care facility was $135. After these experiences, I am now researching various facilities, so when the time comes, I will know where I can get medical care at a reasonable cost.Alex Shulga⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI came in with my little boy. It was so fast that is was filling out papers pretty much after they were done. Highly recommend this place. Amazing job. Thank you very much.Daisy Marie Call ahead to see which staff is working. Dr.Dyess has quite frankly the worst bedside manner I’ve ever seen and you might leave feeling worse than when you arrived here. Some of the staff are wonderful, but some act like they’d rather be anywhere else. I brought my son here a handful of times for various reasons and each time was a different experience. It’s close to home, so this is our first stop in an emergency. If all the staff were consistent, this place would be great. The facility itself is nice on the other hand!Nicole Butrimas I will never go here again. After denying a tetanus shot twice a 3rd person entered my room with it IN HAND, gave me a lecture, and I had to deny it a 3rd time. I had to call for an itemized bill. Once received guess what I was charged for!? The shot I never received! Also, they give a discount for co-pay if you agree to pay in full, which is fraud.Destin Kramer Horrible place. Worst ER I’ve ever been too. My girlfriend was in a horrible car wreck, just showed up and asked about her, got a lady to give me a rude answer like I was inconveniencing her. Got no information on my girlfriends state of health. Wanted to put the lady in the front desk in one of the patient rooms.Amity Nelson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFinding yourself in a situation where you have to go to the Emergency Room is never fun. I’ve had to go to this location twice within a year and both experiences were handled immediately with no wait, professionally and very friendly. The first time I was in pain from a swollen leg that was red and hot to the touch. They immediately got me into a room and did several tests and found I had a blood clot in my leg and 2 others that had traveled to my lungs. Within 2 hours, I was on an ambulance to Baptist South hospital. If I had waited any longer or tried to drive 30 miles out to see a primary care physician, I might not be alive. Their staff was super nice and the facility was pristine and clean.Pam McArthur⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe went there while visiting friends. My husband was complaining of ear pain and discomfort. We found this ER center on Google and they were open. We walked in and we were immediately taken back to an exam room. Nurses and doctor were compassionate and professional Doctor located a pharmacy that was still open and printed off the address for us.Stacy Carter⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI visited this facility today for severe back pain. The entire staff–security, nurses, manager, physician, and radiology tech–with whom i came into contact were thorough, knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. I highly recommend this facility!Shunit Mor-Barak Clean and sterile rooms, nice folks, iffy availability of services for an “emergency room” and no clue about what you’ll pay later! After reading reviews I asked the nurse what would be covered by insurance. She didn’t know and didn’t really want to find out for me, though she started calling folks to find out while I sat in pain and waited. While she did that, I checked with my insurance directly to see if my problem would be covered. It took her much longer to not get an answer for me. At first they told me no, but I convinced them. Make sure you do this. If it isnt “life threatening” they won’t want to but apparently sometimes “to relieve pain” works as long as you argue for a while. Waiting room was empty and pleasant, nurse was pleasant, but the inability of anyone at the facility to address insurance concerns was appalling. I was also concerned when the dr. asked the nurse for lidocaine (available otc) and the nurse didn’t know if they had any, “sometimes we do and sometimes we don’t.” This was the HEAD nurse. Yikes!!! These folks, like most facilities, will make you wait even if there are NO other patients. I went in at noon. After 1:30 PM, I was still waiting on the doctor to help. For an emergency room, they sure do NOT hurry. When I waddled down the hall to make sure they hadn’t forgotten about me, the nurses were chatting, then stopped and said “I’m dealing with an allergic reaction here.” Then went back to chatting. Typical of care in most facilities, but not okay. I won’t return if Ican help it.RobbyJoe USN⭐️⭐️⭐️If you checkin prior to 7, Dr. Faley and the 2 nurses christina and crystal were 5 star providers and gave excellent and genuine care to my wife. The 3 stars are an average and reflective of the Xray tech and the doc and nurse on the following shift who were heavy handed, dismissive and rude.Erin Hoekstra To clarify my review is 0 stars. This place is outrageously priced. They are not upfront about the cost as we would not have stayed. We were finished and had to wait to be put in the system before we could be discharged that’s how short an amount of time we were there, yet they billed my insurance over $3000 for our 2 year old who didn’t receive any emergency care. We were told it would cost $100 (emergency room co-pay) but $80 If we paid that day. Never told to expect a bill in the mail! It’s completely absurd they can get away with this! I guess it’s the only way they can stay open Brad Paro UPDATE TO COMMENT BELOW, just received a bill that’s now $1840 when I was told $340. Highway Robbery Didn’t have insurance, needed a few stiches in my arm. Original went in just to get an idea of how much it’ll cost to get sutured up. They called billing and said with insurance it’ll cost $4000, without it’ll cost a fraction of the price depending on what I get done. I turned down everything offered except stitches in my arm. At the end I received a phone call in the hospital from billing, they said my bill was $340… affordable right? Wait it gets better, waited a month and a half, never received a bill. Called billing and they’re now saying I racked up $6000 if I had insurance. And I have a outstanding bill of $840…..for stitches. Then she proceeded to tell me most of the charges were from using the facility. The facility that lead me to believe that it wasn’t going to be that much…what a ripoff.Joyce Gearhart⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHorrible reaction to some kind of insect bite. Nurses and doctor were great and understanding. Being from out of town, closest place to my family’s home. Treated me professionally and very timely. Antibiotic and hopefully on the road to recovery.lisa lee⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe are from out of state – visiting family in Jacksonville- and needed emergency service while in Florida. This facility was wonderful ! All of the staff was concerned, professional and most helpful. I recommended Memorial Emergency Center to my family that lives in the area. Everything about this center was excellent.Luis Hernandez⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedDifferent week, different staff, same great service. I had the unenviable fortune of needing the services of the ER. Two totally different situations, conditions, and symptoms. In both cases the staff responded quickly and professionally to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. Doctors, nurses, and imaging staff were all caring and empathetic.Nicole Swartz We took our son here when he fell and hit his head pretty badly. We had an examination and one dose of anti-nausea medication to treat his vomiting (my son wouldn’t comply with the catscan so we didn’t do it) and we just found out they are billing insurance $4000 for this. They are asking us for $1500 to cover deductible. I’m completely outraged. I feel as though they need to be transparent with customers regarding what they will be responsible for. If I would have been presented with an estimate for this, I could have made an informed decision. I’m very disappointed and feel as though this is truly unethical.Tom Masters DO NOT GO HERE AT ALL COSTS… 5k for a flu test and an hour of your time… that’s with insurance. No thanks stay away.Colin Dees⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy 4 year old daughter snapped both bones in her forearm. We were faced with the decision to travel farther to Wolfson or another emergency room. We are so thankful for the staff here! Tough experience and decided to stay instead of driving her farther…she was so scared. We did our best keeping her comfortable and when we finished I can’t imagine we could have picked a better place. So happy for this team of doctors and nurses!Patricia Hanchick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWhen I arrived at the emergency center they were very pleasant and professional. I was seen very quickly by a staff nurse by the name of Mark. Told him what the problem was and he moved very quickly to take all the information so I could see the doctor. I have been to Memorial several times and have all ways be very satisfied.Brett Sanders Absolutley terrible service, my daughter had strep throat. They gave her Tylenol and a popsicle and we went on our way with a prescription for strep. Seen for only a few minutes then a month later received bill for$3,805 from insurance!!! Expecting me to pay $1,453 out of my own pocket !!! I have called for the past month to get the error corrected with no return phone calls or help at all. I can see by the other reviews this is an issue. Please call me to correct this bill, I want to work with you to resolve this reasonably. I have been awaiting call back for a month.Polly Fox Our experience while here was great. My son was treated for an allergic reaction to peanuts. He received a shot of epinephrine ($12), 2 tsp of children’s Benadryl and a dose of prednisone. He felt better almost immediately after the shot but we stayed for observation for about an hour. The distressing part came when they charged our insurance over $4,000. The amount that ended up being our responsibility was almost $2,000. I truly believe this ER is price gouging and taking advantage of its patients. They should be ashamed. I would definitely not visit this ER if you have the choice.Jack Cunha The service was ok, but the cost of telling me my son had the flu was extremely costly. If they said it will cost us $4K just to walk in the place through the emergency doors, I would of walked out immediately.. the total bill came to over $8K. Also, their are two sides to the bill, hospital and physician, but were over $4 each. Called my insurance company and they indicated if I went through them and went to sponsored hospital/emergency room on San Jose Blvd the total cost would of been $250 to $300 at most for them to advised me my son had the flu. I’m still disputing the physician’s payment in July. NEVER AGAIN!! Very costly mistake, this is just to advised the next person..David Smith⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI took my wife in the day before Thanksgiving with a dislocated shoulder from a fall. Mark, the charge nurse immediately came out to our car and helped her into a wheelchair and into the building. She was in a lot of pain. Everyone was very nice and professional. They managed her pain quickly, took X-rays, explained everything thoroughly, super efficient. Dr. Gyarmathy and Kristina were great. Kristina helped my wife later in the day with follow up scheduling an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. My wife works in health care and she was very pleased and impressed with this facility and the staff. It is more expensive because it is a true Emergency Room just like those located at the hospital, but it was worth it!Jojobriag Dolls⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVisited Memorial Julington Creek this evening. My experience was good. Staff was friendly and quick, I was back home within 2 yrs. Thank You Dr Woods.kataski corson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedOnce again, the staff was friendly, timely, clean facility an all around pleasant experience. Dr. Lamond listened then provided the quality / necessary services after viewing the x-rays.Nicole Lavery Walked in and nobody was at front desk- nobody to check in, absolutely nothing except two nurses chatting in back. Waited at least 10 min- absolutely nothing. Self check in machine was broken. We were waiting to wait here and left. Save yourself time, money and go to the Care spot on San Jose!Wendy Simpson Went with hurt foot and was they were a emergency room for emergency. So left went to Baptist south where they x-ray and now on foot brace and off my foot. They tell everyone they are ER and make you feel like you are not taken serious. The only reason I went was because they are never busy. Now I know why.Lisa Wade⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWhen you’re sick you definitely don’t want to have to wait around … I walked right in and they took me back immediately! I was there for maybe an hour! Everyone was very friendly and helpful!Alan Kaplan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedGreat facility and they thoroughly know how to treat you.Kay Bailey⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI experienced a fall at home and thought I had broken my leg. Arrived at Memorial ER on Racetrack Road and was taken immediately in to a room. I found the nurse, Gina, Dr King, and x-ray technician to all be very friendly and extremely thorough. X-rays showed that it was not broken (thank goodness). Overall, it was a very good experience, and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back, if needed. In and out time was 1 hour and 20 min. Only had to pay co-pay which I would have had to pay at any hospital.Denise Schafner⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy visit this evening was nothing but great. The doctor and staff [nurse, Angie, x-ray tech, all staff I encountered] thank you for taking good care of me. The facility is very clean and the entire process very organized. I would definitely recommend.ashley blanton I took my 2 year old son there because he fell playing tag and wouldn’t put any weight on his leg. The doctor saw my son “try” to walk but he would just collapse. Instead of getting an X-ray of his leg he decided to X-ray just his hips. Of course, nothing was wrong with his hip. He was complaining of his foot/leg not his hip. The doctor stopped there and told me to take him home and give him Ibuprofen. The next day my son was still no better and screamed when we attempted to have him use his leg. We took him to his primary Doctor which ordered an X-ray of his knee, ankle and foot. Turns out he has a broken tibia. I will never take any of my kids back to this ER. It was a complete waste of my time and money!!!! I highly recommend driving the 35 minutes downtown to Wolfsons/Baptist!Eric Leide⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe staff is kid friendly, courteous and compassionate. We’ve had to use this in the past and I wouldn’t go anywhere else!Schmooze with Suz Overpriced AND less helpful. Came in with an extraordinary pain in my wrist. Literally the only patient in the building and still had a wait.Told me to take Motrin and gave me an overpriced wrist brace. I should have gone to Care Spot. They would at least treat the unbearable pain so you leave in better shape than you came in. Worst mistake coming here.Chris Webber⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedNothing but great experience each time I have been there. Fast. Clean and excellent doctors and nursing care. Highly recommendKyla White⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe whole staff was extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. Was in and out very quickly too. Most pleasant ER experience I’ve ever hadNatalie Schultz After my 2 year old fell off the picnic table face first, we raced to the Memorial Emergency Center. We saw only one other family in a room and we were seen by the nurse within just minutes except all they did was check her weight, height and temperature. They didn’t offer any assistance to her bleeding facial wound, nor offer ice or anything for her to keep her lip/chin from swelling. They said to wait for the doctor but even after 15 minutes, no one came to our room except for the admissions employee. I went to hand over my insurance card, but realized they hadn’t been helpful to this point so I didn’t expect much if the doctor was to show up. Unless this is the only place available or you just ran out of band-aids, I would advise you to find another place to spend the evening.thomas obringer Avoid at all costs, unless you want to put up with an incompetent billing department and them sending an amount that you already paid to a dept collector.Michael Shaw I was having symptoms of vertigo in the middle of the night so my primary care physician suggested I go here because it was the only place open and I wouldn’t be able to see her for a few days. I went with my father and I was the only patient in the facility. I went right back to a room, saw a nurse who took vitals and asked questions, and then saw a physician who came in and did a questionnaire. My total visit was approximately 30 minutes in which I saw the doctor for about 5 minutes of that time (my father talked with him the rest of the time outside the room). He prescribed me with some meds for the vertigo and I was off. I later received a bill for $2,227 ($1,004 for the physician and $1,223 for the facilities). So, I disputed the memorial bill and the physicians bill. Memorial replied with a letter that essentially said the charges stand and that they do not have to “justify the reasonableness of any charges,” so I paid because it wasn’t worth my time or the risk to my credit. The company for the physicians billing still have not completed my dispute as I am waiting to hear from them. Warning: You will get charged absurd amounts of money for nothing. What kind of business doesn’t have to properly justify their charges? The detailed billing statement says something to the effect of “Level # Em with Physician (Meds Prescribed).” They act like it is super difficult to estimate charges but then your detailed bill is something with a one line justification that is about as simple as it gets. If it is so simple, then why don’t they post charges for Level 1, level 2, level 3, etc. Very unethical practice. If I had the time and money I would be in a lawsuit right now purely out of principle. So many have had the same experience with this place. Class action anyone?colleen mesler⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedSo thankful to have this emergency room! When you are blessed with having a life saving facility so close to your home, be thankful. Nurse Mark is wonderful and kind and cares about your wellbeing.Nicole Oskwarek⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis is awesome!! The ER is close in case of emergencies!Mindy Kerr If you value your $ RUN AWAY. For just the simple removal of something out of my son’s ear, the bill was $2000. I call BULL CRAP. Called them, said for triage, procedure, and paperwork, that’s the standard bill. We didn’t even receive triage, and they actually came and got his information AFTER the doc had already gotten it out. NOPE. Find somewhere else, if you can.Stacey Lewis Prescribed wrong medications twice on two different occasions and person. I will never go here again. Do not take your children here, make the drive to Wolfson.Live laugh love Rebel If I could give it no stars I would all I did was pee in a cup and my bill was over $800 that’s ridiculousLisa Murman Went in for a precautionary NON EMERGENCY X-ray ended up with over $2000 in out of pocket expenses. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. Would have walked out immediately if we had known everyone they check in is charged emergency charges. Avoid these people!!!!!!Isabel Massi On 2/28 I brought my 8 year old son around 8am. He had been coughing off and on for a couple days and he woke up sunday crying his throat was on fire and he couldn’t swallow. We had just returned from a cruise and I had just finished taking antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection so I brought him to Memorial Julington Creek. Where we live there is nothing else around. The nurses were so very nice and pleasant. Then the Doctor came in, Dr. Michael Maxwell…he was the rudest Dr I’ve ever encountered. He walked in and the first thing he says is “Why would you bring a normally healthy 8 yr old here?” I started to explain why I brought him in and he cut me off saying “Don’t you know strep throat NEVER comes with a cough? Why would you bring him here?” Of course I wouldn’t know this, I tell him I was just sick. I had a Z pack and he tells me “Well I’m not prescribing anything, doctors get paid less the more prescriptions they write, so I’m not giving him anything…he’ll be fine. Kids get sick, they fight it off, give it 2 weeks” and walks out. All he did was look at my son and make him say AHHHH that was it. He was so rude and abrasive and I’ve never been spoken to like that before. He walked out of the room.. he was in there for all of 5 minutes. If that. I called and complained about him. Today I got a bill for $868.00 because they didn’t have all my insurance information. Prior to leaving I had given them my card, and I’ve been there before so my info should be in the system. It hasn’t changed. I will not be going back if I can avoid it. I don’t recommend anyone let Dr. Michael Maxwell near their children.Chris Webber⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedSaved my mothers life! Awesome doctors and nurses! Found the cause of my mothers illness and immediately had her admitted as it was life threatening. Will ALWAYS go there for ER!Kyle Ricketson Went there complaining of pain, told them I had a pre-existing condition, the doctor on staff pretty much told me that my diagnosis was false (Even though it had been confirmed through multiple tests) and sent me home with minor pain meds. Didn’t bother trying to find out what was actually wrong with me and was completely disrespectful the entire time. I would never recommend this place to anyone!Portista 99 We took our son there after he was head buted in the nose, they took him right in and the doc came in within 10 minutes, was in the room for 2-3 minutes and determined there was no fracture just by looking at him. No x-rays and no meds, just told us to ice. The insurance lady took over 20 minutes to get her info and a few weeks later we got a $2600 bill. This is robbery…. Go somewhere elseJennifer Chionchio-Carroll NOT FOR KIDS!! No pediatrician dr at this facility. Bring your children to Wolfsons. They can’t treat kids here. I found this out the hard way!!Clelia Peters I had the worse experience at this facility, I was by myself dying with pain, they never asked me for insurance info and sent the bill directly to a debt collector agency, they did it again with my daughter 3 weeks ago. I will never go back to this place again.Abby and Cat went to this emergency room with an infection on the back of my neck from a spider bite . Just to make note it had been here for five days and it was about the size of a baseball . The doctor said that she didn’t think it needed to be lanced at that time however she said it will probably need to be lanced eventually.I was thinking the whole time how could this possibly get any bigger .however The pain going down my neck into my shoulders and around the front of my throatwas bad.they did not do any blood work nor did they do any CAT scans x-rays or anything to see if it was staff. The pain was so intense that I decided that something was not right . As I was leaving the emergency room I had dirt on my shoes and the discharge nurse said oh my gosh can you please tiptoe out of here so you don’t get any more dirt on our floors. I had come straight from work to the emergency room and I work as a property inspector.yes my shoes might’ve been a little I decided to go to Baptist South Hospital where the doctor looked at me and was shocked .so I decided to go to Baptist South Hospital where the doctor looked at me and said oh my gosh they actually let you leave without even doing bloodwork .after being in their for a fewhours they started an IV and did blood work.come to find out I had Mrsa. And it had made its way into my bloodstream . After days of aggressive antibiotics on an IV and they also pulled 9cc of Pus out of my neck two hours after the same doctor at Memorial Hospital on racetrack Road told me you did not need to be lanced.lucky for them I went to another hospital that same night to get a second opinion or I would not be able to leave this feedback . The older lady Doctor Who took care of me that night at Memorial almost ki
