Memorial Hospital Reviews

Before you go to Memorial Hospital, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Albany emergency room think.

Suzanne Maloney⭐️⭐️Sitting in the ER now with my granddaughter. Let me begin with I have had great experiences with this hospital. Today however, my granddaughter has just been diagnosed with pneumonia. Her treatment has been good. Having been here for 2 + hours I have been treated to an obnoxiously loud Dr sitting at the desk just outside our room. So much for patient privacy. This guys had treated us to the gory details of all of the patients in his care while I’ve been here. I lost it when he started talking about a 24 year old who had pneumonia so bad that she probably had necrosis is had it. I think the person who he was talking to and looked at me when I whipped open the curtain got the clue. It too a few minutes, but he stopped.Melissa Hanigan⭐️⭐️⭐️My daughter had surgery and all the staff were great. The gentleman who brought us to room was very personable and funny. The only complaint I have is the cleanliness of the facility from the or prep room to the waiting area . The floors were dirty and the pt room curtains were stained . This made me feel a little uncomfortable. A patient who is going in for surgery should be in a clean environment.Janere McBean Pretty dissatisfied. Never had a problem until today when I went in for an asthma attack. I normally would get two breathing treatments but instead I got one that lasted 7mins when normally it’s at least 10-15mins…With someone that has a history of asthma I would think you would look into the medical file.. clearly notHIRING MANAGER⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was nervous having my daughter go to a hospital I was not familiar with. The nurses and staff were amazing. Very attentive always smiling. I was in a different leading hospital nearby few months ago and I hated it the staff was awful. Albany Memorial was prompt their system of using the beepers to alert you when going in surgery and out of surgery to beep you to talk to the doctors was awesome!! Highly recommend!!Natalie Lupuku Everytime I come to this facility to see Dr. Sloath the wait is extremely long. The last time was 3 hours this time I am currently still waiting and its been 2 hours. No one checks in to follow up or update us on how much longer. This is an extremely stressful visit every time. I plan on getting a new wound care referral. If you care about your time this is not the place to go.Diane Moseley The staff is friendly enough but the cleanliness has a lot to be desired. The restroom on the lobby level is so dirty you would think you were in the restroom on a NewYork City subway platform. The walls of the bathroom stalls are so dirty I do not want to even think of the germs you could catch if you brush up against them. As far as the cafe if should have to use this hospital again I will go across the street to the Dunkin Doughnuts.Cory Taliaferro An overall lack of compassion from the ER staff, especially the charge nurse. I will not return and do not recommend Albany Memorial for any reason. If I ever have to go back there, I hope that I’ll be DOA.Genna Short⭐️⭐️⭐️Long wait, staff is busy with other patients. Be preparedTremenia Oliver Don’t Go There!!! If I could put a negative Star rating I would. I took my son to the Memorial hospital emergency room because he cut himself with a knife while cooking. There was one person sitting in the waiting room, so I assumed we wouldn’t be waiting long. 1 hour later no triage and they took three other people to be triaged before my son. I left because I was worried about my son’s hand. Thank God urgent care was open. He got seen right away and needed stitches. Not a helpful staff and a badly run emergency room. I won’t be returning there and am advising the rest of my family not to go there either. I would rather wait all day in Albany Medical Center’s emergency room!!!Paula DesRosiers Was brought in by ambulance from a motor vehicle accident. Been sitting in the ER exam room in a neck brace and in pain for almost 2 hours and haven’t seen a Doctor yet?!? You’d think there would be more urgency? Terrible place. Go anywhere but here.Cathy Ginocchi⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedNever have I taken the time to write either a positive or negative review for a doctor or hospital, but feel this one worth the time! A situation with my 80-year-old mother was handled with kindness, care, patience, tenderness as well as a great deal of knowledge. From beginning to end, and I do mean end, with the valet offering to fold up her wheelchair for me and place it in the back of my car! Well done, Albany Memorial! Among the long list of doctors I have been to with my mother over the years, you shine! A+ indeed!Aimee Rivas⭐️⭐️Right now I’m sitting in room 10 in Er with my daughter whom is the patient. She fell and passed out after at mini golf today. There was a hole in between the side walk and path she was walking on. We aren’t from here. I’m a trauma nurse and critical care registered nurse. Registration was rude the first one coming in after being seen by triage and demanding information. I mentioned my child did not see a physician yet. She became defensive and said she didn’t need to an X-ray of my child’s ankle was about to happen. She continued to be rude, which of course made me defensive. Next thing you know she left as radiology tech came in and took my child stating they would be right back meaning “no you cannot go with her” I waited and she came back in a timely manner and as soon as she was wheeled in the room another registration person (nicer this time) came in. I gave all my info I could and I waited a bit and as the registration lady finished the doctor whom is also nice came in and stated the plan of care, then the nurse. She still is not splinted she still has no results yet and even though it takes 90 minutes per unwritten white board (not a big deal) for results I know a “wet read can tell me what’s going on” at least splint the swollen and painful ankleerin Kelsey Thull⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had a CT MYELOGRAM and I experienced the best care from the nurses and the techs … out of any hospital I’ve ever been to. I had a lot of pain after and cat scan Carrie rubbed me and comforted me until I got pain meds ! Her touch & voice calmed me down until I got my medicine and there after … I’d like to personally thank all these wonderful women.. Regina hunter RN Jackie Capece RN cat scan Carrie Rad tech Carley Thank you all for your compassionate care !!!!! Erin Thull ❤️Jhon Smith I came here two weeks ago and I asked to do a blood test because I was feeling very weak the doctor said no everything I asked the doctor he said no do not come here if you want to get treated you very badly this place is a joke and the people who is I was Waiting good reviews they are probably from the staff and the family this was the worst hospital I ever went to in my life even Ellis hospital hospital is so much better than this place The doctor seal they just don’t want to help you if you’re having problems stay away from this placeTimothy Pastrick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI recently had surgery at Albany Memorial and was very impressed with the entire operation. The entire staff was professional, knowledgeable and caring. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.Nicole ryan I felt a pop and burning sensation on the right side of my head and didn’t feel right. And it came on suddenly. I went to this hospital because I had a good experience before, but will never go there again. I got there and could barely hold my head up. After being in pain and no one else in the waiting room for over an hour, I went up and asked if I would be seen. The receptionist said I would be seen when they could because it wasn’t an emergency. Someone came in with a cut that didn’t even need stitches and was in and out before I was even triaged. I finally left and for what wasn’t an emergency I had to see a specialist, so I am glad that receptionists can tell people they aren’t an emergency. Never againRob Ayer⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The doctors here have truly made a positive impact on my families health. There does seem to be a little miscommunication sometimes but they all work and try their best for you and your loved ones.Anthony Ottman⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI just spent 3 days at Memorial Hopital and I have to commend Alon in Dietary services. He is so kind and caring and went out of his way to take care of all my needs. What a sweetheart. You should be very proud to have him as an employee.Melissa Mitchell Staff genuinely could care less. It is very apparent the staff hates every minute of every day spent there. My daughter was in pain after breaking her collar bone. I asked after 1.5 hours of waiting if she could be seen or at least some medication. It was not busy. No ambulance.. sitting at the nurse station was much more important than giving care. It is so disheartening… sad actually. How can people live with themselves? The m Family This was actually a WHOLE 5 star review. An edit was much needed. Just don’t come here; Albany Memorial. It’s like there’s no good hospitals in upstate or no good doctors practicing in emergency medicine anymore.marisa graham I DO NOT CARE IF YA FIND MÉ IN THEIR PARKING LOT…I WILL NEVER AGAIN DARKEN THEIR DOORSTEP WITH MY SHADOW…I FEEL SO HUMILIATED RIGHT NOW ANS I HAD THE NERVE JUST LAST WEEK TO TELL ALL MY DOCS I WILL ONLY DEAL WITH THEM AND ST PETERS…WELL THAT HAS CHANGED..I TOOK MY GRANDCHILD THERE TODAY DIZZY…VOMITING…HER FULL BODY ACHING SHE SAID…GRANDMA TO THE RESCUE…WE ARE NOW AT ST PETERS BY THE WAY..AT ANY RATE A WOMAN WAS SCREAMING AT THEM FOR LACK OF SERVICE AHE STATED SHE SAT FOR 3 HOURS WITH NO ATTENTION…MIND U THERE WERE FIVE PPL IN THE EMER. RM.OFFICE SITTING GIGGLING…WHEN I ASKED THE NURSE CLD MY GRANDCHILD LAY DOWN SHE DIZZY THEY SAID …IN A NASTY TONE WITH VERY EVIDENT BODY LANGUAGE..SHE IS GONNA HAVE TO WAIT FOR TRIAGE…BUT U CAN ALWAYS GO SOMEPLACE ELSE…WHAT…LIKE IT WAS MCDONALDS OR SOMETHING…HUMAN SERVICE SURELY IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE..I FELT LIKE WE WERE ALIENS AND NOT THE KIND FROM OTHER COUNTRIES IM TALKIN BOUT THE KIND FROM..OUTER SPACE…IM SO DISGUSTED RIGHT NOW …DONT GO TO MEMORIAL HOSPITAL GO TO ST PETER THEY WERE VERY ATTENTIVE UPON ENTRANCE..OH AND BY THE WAY THEY DONT EVEN GET ONE …LEAVE EM EMPTY…LIKE THEY MADE ME FEEL WITH THAT BACKYARD BOOTLEG SERVICE THEY GAVE ME..Jane Gardner My father is here, in pain. Ive asked for pain medication, water, and an ice pack numerous times. Still nothing. I hope these nurses get the same care they give when they need help.Clayton Nagel This place is not big on sharing information with the patient. My wife and I waited over 1.5 hours to have the doctor visit her in the ER after she had already been told by the RN that she had pneumonia. They gave my wife IV antibiotics and we were told that the doctor would be by in a few minutes. 90+ minutes later some guy from nuclear medicine comes by and says that they are taking my wife for a study of her gallbladder bladder. To this point, nobody had mentioned anything about her gall bladder. They said that she would be gone for about an hour… that was well over an hour ago. Nobody has come to tell me what is going on… oh yeah, and now it has been more than 3 hours since we were told that the doctor would be by in a few minutes. Never again!Susan Spencer My daughter was brought to the ER after experiencing abdominal pain and nausea for >48 hours. She had no p.o. Intake in that time and all attempts were met with her immediately vomiting. We arrived close to 5am and she was seen very quickly initially. She was given a ns iv and a Maslow and lidocaine drink (she immediately vomited). When I asked the nurse for assistance she said she would be in. Ten minutes later she came in and gave my daughter iv Ativan for her anxiety. She never assessed her after that. She did not acknowledge the emesis. She let the iv run dry and my request to speak with the doctor was totally ignored. Once the next shift came in she was given medication for her pain and an antiemetic. The nurse and doctor were awesome and actually interacted with my daughter and what she was experiencing. Unfortunately my daughter’s symptoms worsened and she ended up returning via ambulance. The intake nurse explained that they were having an issue and the oncoming nurse would complete her assessment. After waiting over an hour I rang the call light and asked for assistance. The gentleman that responded was RUDE and immediately informed me that he couldn’t do anything until the doctor saw her. I asked for a nurse to complete her assessment so she could be treated. The nurse that she had the night before came in…and my daughter had specifically asked NOT to have because of the lack of care she provided. My daughter left the ER after we were told…an hour for an assessment is reasonable…you were already seen by a doctor so you aren’t a priority…coming by ambulance isn’t a priority. These comments and many more came from a registered nurse and her charge nurse. There were many other events…the end results we had to drive over 45 minutes for my daughter to receive appropriate care. I am DISGUSTED by the treatment she received and am DISGUSTED that two registered nurses felt that 9/10 pain did not require any attention. I will call NYSDOH on Monday and file a formal complaintJeff Britton⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHad to go to the ER on Mother’s day, everyone was professional, quick, and friendly. The place was clean and the wait was short.Annie Coomes⭐️⭐️⭐️Long wait, but as expected for an understaffed hospitalKristy Elizabeth⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHopefully I don’t need to go to the hospital again anytime soon but if I do I’d come back here. Staff was friendly and attentive, Dr Bruce K. was very nice and checked in a few times, which might not seem like a big deal but I’ve been to the hospital and only seen a Dr when I was ready to be checked out. I was in and out including an hour of IV fluids, blood work and all that good stuff in about 3 hours…that to me is speedy for an ER visit.Marie Curley⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAlbany Memorial Emergency Room is the best in the area. I’ve had great positive experiences there and recently, brought my daughter to them for an emergency situation. I don’t know how they keep doing it, but they’re consistently professional, nursing staff is top-notch and wait time is reasonable. My young-adult daughter was treated with dignity and respect by everyone she came in contact with, from the front desk to the attending physician. Her serious condition was immediately and correctly diagnosed and treated. She was admitted and the hospital staff was also so kind and competent from the moment she arrived on the floor. Would recommend this ER over ANY other in the area.Bolivia Pena⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAwesome hospital awesome staff!! Went to this hospital with my son it takes less the 5 minutes to call him from the waiting area and treated him fast! ThanksMerlyn Nair Terrible hospital visit! Came here because my brothers contact ripped and half was stuck in his eye. The hospital was literally empty. Waited 3 hours in the room with no-care. I went out at the 2 hour mark to ask a nurse when someone would come see my brother and he said “very shortly”… guess who showed up another hour later. The same guy I asked…Debbie Baker⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy husband had detached retina surgery. The hospital and staff were very impressive. I would definitely go back again, great experience! I’d also like to recommend Retina Consultants.Helen Lacoy⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedTook husband to emergency room ,was admitted with pneumonia, care was excellent ,3 day stay, not once was the parking attendant there so was not charged to park which was great!(I don’t feel someone should pay to visit a patient)Maybe they did away with charging to park?? Anyway the stay was great, free coffee in lobby for patients and visitors, staff was very intelligent and caring,My only hospital from now on Jacqueline Cubano⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy boyfriend’s grandfather unfortunately passed away this past weekend. This was the only hospital he had ever used so he ended up here. I have to say that the staff there-reception, security, nursing, housekeeping and the attending physicians-were so kind, attentive, and empathetic during the whole process. They were informative, honest, and compassionate. They allowed us to stay with him until he passed and for some time after. They constantly offered to assist for anything we needed and when we were in shock they went above and beyond and offered to call the funeral home and nursing home while we grieved. The doctor held our hands and offered sincere condolences to us. Another doctor, who worked with the family during an earlier stay, came to the room and offered his support. The two nurses were so kind. I was touched by their professionalism and compassion. I will never forget what the team that day did. Thank you so, so much. I cannot tell you enough how much your kindness meant to us.Steven Smith You get into the ER quickly, which is the only positive thing about our experience. The doctor was dismissive and didn’t listen, and completely misdiagnosed the problem. It’s worth the wait to go elsewhere. UPDATE: The hospital commented below and asked me to call patient relations. I called last week and was told that someone would call back. It has been five days and I have yet to hear from anyone. For that I’m removing a star.Stephanie Sanchez I was in town and saw this ER had some good reviews and decided to go there. It was a horrible experience. I went for a migraine with vomiting. Had to wait in the room multiple times for extended periods for nursing to complete orders by the provider. Not to mention, I was told my migraine would not go away and was released. Not sure why I would go to the ER if my intent was not for them to relieve my migraine. Also, I was drugged up from benadryl and should have been held until I had a ride home. But they told me to get dressed and follow the signs out.william carey Jr 84 Patient care on the 4th floor is absolutely ridiculous. One of my closest friends is in the hospital for a couple different issues. She woke in the morning sweaty clammy and was not allowed to shower until morning staff came to work. My friend said she would mention this to her doctor and the staff came with a wash bin for her. My friend said she could wash herself. Last night my friend was in pain and asking for her pain meds. She was due for her meds at 6pm and didn’t receive them until 9pm. She was told she needed to wait until the nurse completed her rounds. This patient treatment by staff is absolutely unacceptable!! My friend said the doctors were fantastic but the hospital staff were horrible.OFFICIAL KAYO5 Awful service, and the wait time is EXTREMELY long. My girlfriend sat in the waiting room for 3 hours in pain only to be moved into a room and wait for another ridiculous amount of time WITHOUT SEEING A NURSE OR DOCTOR. Nurses AND doctors repeatedly walked passed our room and it was very upsetting to see staff hanging out eating snacks at the desk while my girlfriend got no care whatsoever. I’m upset this is the closest hospital in the area because it’s the worst.Mark Jeannette I would recommend looking somewhere else, if you do end up going question everything the doctor recommends including any medication. They will give you dangerous (blacklisted in most places) last resort drugs before trying anything else without properly warning you of the side effects. 0 of 10 do not reccomendKurt Dunn Been here for 2.5 hours in the er. There is no one here , er is basically dead. Don’t understand why we are waiting sooooo longBertha Coburn⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was planned for surgery at ALBANY MEMORIAL last month. From the start Dr.Lobel and his team and the fourth floor staff of nurses, aides,to housekeeping and the wonderful lady that smiled and brought me my meals is in my opinion outstanding. Sueda,( hope I got the spelling right), Barb,Catherine, and so many I wish I wrote their names down! Attending me like I was the only one there knowing they had so many more that were getting the same type of treatment and care. I cannot praise and thank Dr. LOBEL,HIS STAFF AND TEAM. THE NURSES,AIDES enough for caring ,for their professionalism and bedside manners that helped me through this. Thank YOU for perfect surgery, thank you for amazing care. Bert CoburnMark Ruffle⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExtremely friendly staff, which is why I am happy to recommend and go here when needed. There are long wait times sometimes, which is what I’d improve if possible.Maureen Somerville Don’t waste your time going to this hospital ER! Dr. Firman could care less!!Brooks Brown⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI went to Albany Memorial for ambulatory surgery and was very pleased with the experience from start to finish. The nurses were all wonderful — friendly, helpful, funny and attentive as was the anesthesiologist and two surgeons. I will absolutely use this hospital again if need arises and will recommend it to friends. The general vibe of this hospital is much more laid back than a bigger hospital and I can’t speak highly enough of the great attitude from the staff. That makes or breaks a medical experience like this and I’m very grateful for the excellent care.Kristi Fortunately I have only had to go here once, but from what I saw I would not take a dying dog to this place. I have never in my life seen such FILTH in a hospital. The walls in the ER room that I was finally put into had aged blood splatters all over and heavily soiled floors. Many, many patients were placed outside of rooms and the staff was horrible. I am not a fan of hospitals, but after seeing this one I had nightmares for a while.Eileen Hall⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAlways have received the best of care! They are fair, professional and trustworthy as healthcare professionals.Ll Ll This hostipal need to be shut down ASAP I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY ARE STILL A HOSTIPAL THE DOCTERS DONT CARE AND THE STUFF DO WHATEVER THEY WONT WITH MED ETC IM WRITING THIS TO HOPEFULLY SAVE SOMEONE LIFE DONT GO TO THIS HOSTIPAL I REPEAT DONT GOConnor Anderson Gone here a few times with serious asthma conditions. Once I had a blood oxygen level under 90, and all they did was give me a nebulizer treatment. They brought me discharge paperwork for doing nothing and still charged me 2 months later, for doing nothing. I get discharged in the same condition in which I arrived? Barely can breathe? What a great hospital.Tarnessha Johnson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I work here lolKimberley Hall I’ve had stat blood work done at this insurance approved lab for the last two months, with a note on the script to send results to the ordering physician by 2:30 that same day. The blood is drawn before 9 am. However the lab can not get the results to the physician. Last month, over a week went by. This month, over 24 hours or more. It’s been over 72 hours and I haven’t heard anything.Jay Monette Completely unprofessional waited for extended periods of time 3 hours in the waiting room. With zero help. Vitals did not even getchecked. Filthy waiting room with blood on the floor. I asked severals times for a nurse the office staff said one would be out shortly an hour later still no nurse. Go to Albany med or st. Peter’sJacob King⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAmazing hospital! Great nursing team! ICU is the bestChristopher Laurenzo ER Staff was less than desirable. The Dr was awful the nurse was horrible also. While being discharged I saw that the medication prescribed was going to the wrong pharmacy and advised the nurse. He assured it would be corrected. As expected he never did. Doctor didn’t explain anything. There’s a reason Albany Med has a waiting room full and Memorial is a empty.Jim Quinn⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI come here for my primary, Dr. Derenzo. If it wasn’t for him and his colleagues, I would probably not be alive today! And that is not an overstatement… Very kind and compassionate. They work with me and I can say that I feel very comfortable with Dr. Derenzo. Great doctor! Staff is very good as well… The office is all around the best one I’ve been to. I’ve stayed with them for several years now and hopefully for many more. -willQDomenica Perleoni⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThey took such great care of me in the ER! I really appreciated the quality of care I received from the physicians, the PAs, and the nurses there.Migmarie Gonzalez TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE ELSE WHERE, THEY WILL KILL YOU WITH ATIVAN AND MORPHINE WITH A SMILE ON THEIR FACE AND TELL YOU IT WAS THE ILLNESS PROGRESSING. The E.R doctor and nurses were good, the GI that placed his stent was good but the ICU overnight nurse did the job, she kept telling me his illness was progressing and that it was going to get worse from there. She even told me he was not going to make it through the night; but he did the she said he is not going to make it past this weekend and spoke to me about her mother passing from cancer and that it was painful way to die, talk about a mental f**K on top of already being emotional. She advised me get with hospice and be stern about bringing him home. She said his blood pressure was high because of his pain and I did not want my father in pain so I agreed to “make him comfortable” and “it will help his breathing”. I called my mom to get a “verbal” to “make everything legal”, I had no idea what that term meant, I later found out was to basically sedated him into a coma and when it was injected gave him a head rush and looked like he had seizure, after that my father did not speak, he did not eat, he did not drink and was removed from everything except the pain meds and nasal cannula. We agreed to hospice because we wanted to bring him home, before he went into the coma, he told me to bring him home but once in hospice they told us if we bring him home they would not give us anything for the pain or oxygen, we did not want him to die in pain so we agreed to keep him in the hospital but we were never offered to cancel hospice and return him to the ICU. My father was given Dilaudid and Tylenol for his fever every few hours until he passed on October 21st at 11:47 am. I give them one star because of the ER and GI staff were so good to my dad before being legally euthanized. -MIGMARIE GONZALEZJosh Peebles⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedBest hospital in Albany great nurses as well as doctors and they are very fast didn’t have one problem with them…Jim Parker Horrible wait time, even though there were not many patients. Was told my nurse “forgot” to send me for x-ray. Waited over 4 hours with no care given, no meds, or IV that doctor ordered. Tried to post feedback and lodge a complaint on their website but of course they have no place to do so. I walked out after 4 hours of waiting, and they can shove their damn bill you know where!Tenniel Hansen The nurses and techs were great but the provider was rude. She stood outside the room chatting about unrelated subjects and ignored the patients. Three different patients asked what is taking so long and each one of us were told we were “next”. Over two hours is not fast for a simple xray. Very disappointedangela M Super slow took 4 hours to get checked and get out of here, waste of timefarukh riz very bad service saw the doctor after 3 hours i was bleeding so much from my mouth lost so much blood and they didnt even makw the blood stop they made me wait 3 hours to see the doctor finally i figured out my self how to stop the bleeding i would never go here if ur dying they would tell u to sign and waitEleanor Murray While waiting for a cardiac work-up in the ER, we heard a hu
