NHRMC North Reviews

Before you go to NHRMC North, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Wilmington emergency room think.

Ruth Brunick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAlways very clean, staff is great, nurses listen and really care, most of the Dr’s and PA’S are great!! Really fast, in and out 9 times outta 10.. A few times I’ve been in there waiting a couple of hours but due to the test and things they had to do.Dan Rambadt The doctor I saw was too ignorant to listen and understand my symptoms that he gave me a wrong diagnosis based on symptoms that he projected upon me, which I didn’t even have. I know what a sinus infection feels like. I’ve had it for long enough to where it has turned into a bacterial infection and I need antibiotics. He ended up prescribing me with a cough suppressant and an inhaler for wheezing. Why would he do that when he checked my lungs and told me they were perfect? He also wrote a prescription for mucinex. Mucinex is an otc drug, I don’t need a prescription for that. He said the infection is viral because it’s crossing systems. How is it crossing systems if all of my symptoms are in my sinuses? Also, bacterial infections can cross systems as well. I tried explaining to him that this is a sinus infection, I have had extreme sinus pressure, headache, and thick yellow mucus which has progressively gotten worse and I need antibiotics. He gave me some B.S. that sinus infections shouldn’t be treated with antibiotics… If you google antibiotics, sinus infections are like #3 on the list of things they’re used for according to multiple sources. I’ve been taking Sudafed and Afrin for days now and I have not gotten any better. Thanks for wasting my time, money, and energy.Brent Furnier⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThey took really good care of me I would recommend them it was late at night, got right in, kidney stones was my issue everyone was friendly and helpful, they checked on me the next dayShi Warren Some women should not work with children! Tina (sorry don’t know her last name) was very rude and irritated from then start! I’ve never been treated so bad at a New Hanover hospital! Let’s not forget the day before it took me seriously all day to get ahold of a Radiology department just to see when my appointment was. I will definitely not be coming back!Chad Howser I had to take my 70 year old mother to the ER with chest pains and vomiting. Gary The RN made her walk back to the room and never offered a wheel chair and showed no sense of urgency or concern. He was a good 15 feet ahead of us. When we got to the room he had no sense urgency again until she said she is having chest pains. And by this time the doc showed up. Alyssa was the only nurse who was good and did a good job. I can say if it was not for her she would not have had good nursing care. The doctor was good.Stephanie Hanson I wish I could give them NO STARS. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GO THERE UNLESS YOU HAVE JUST A COLD. THE DR WAS SO RUDE AND ACTED LIKE I WASTING HIS TIME. I WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN ON MY LEFT SIDE IT HURT TO BREATH. HE EXPLAINED TO ME WHAT AN ER WAS AND ASKED ME IF I HAD A PCP? REALLY DUDE? I JUST GRABBED MY PURSE AND WALKED OUT. He made me feel like the biggest fool for going to the dr to get help. I can’t take pain meds because I’m allergic, and I needed to find out what was causing this pain. Went to an urgent care and they said it was a kidney stone. It’s been almost a month and the pain is worse. I was told to go to the ER if I didnt pass a stone or the pain got worse. And shame on me for doing that. Do not go there for serious pain. They’re just an acute urgent care for colds and flu.Mathew Malenic My son bumped his head at the playground pretty hard, we just wanted to make sure he didn’t have a concussion. Went to the ER and they took his vitals and shined a flashlight in his eyes, said he was fine and sent us home. That was a 15 minute visit at most. Received a bill for almost $1500 a few weeks later. If that’s not robbery I don’t know what is. Don’t go here unless you are dying, literally.Damien Capps My girlfriend had to go to the ER for drug interactions between her anxiety medication and nyquil. She had every symptom in the book… Nausea, throwing up, confusion, agitation, HALLUCINATIONS, dizziness, and she was fading in and out of consciousness. Dr. Young tested her for the flu, which came back positive, but had no concern about her other symptoms. Poison control recommended that she be given fluids and have blood-work done, which I mentioned to the doctor, but he dismissed me, simply saying that she is fine, she just needs rest. $240 later, we left with no help for her confusion and hallucinations, and a prescription to tamiflu and nausea medication. Throughout the whole experience he was dismissive of any of our concerns, rude, short, and acted like he had better places to be. I assumed he was busy, but after our visit was over I could see that he was just sitting as his desk, I assume doing “very urgent” paperwork…. but who knows. I do not recommend seeing Dr. Young. In addition, the nursing staff were short, and acted as if we were inconveniencing them by simply being there. We were the only patients in the ER, but they still quickly ran in and out of the room, mumbling their thoughts and instructions to us under their breath. When Dr. Young and the staff weren’t in the room ignoring us, I could hear them talking and laughing in the offices just outside. Something about “breaking a blender” and “making another smoothie. Very unprofessional, and not worth the visit or the money.Candace Anderson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis place was incredible. Anyone dreads having to go to the emergency room, but this experience was great. Luckily there was no one waiting in front of me which I’m sure added to my good experience, but overall the facility was very clean and orderly, I had my own room, each staff member I encountered were super friendly and knowledgeable, and I was in and out very quickly!!!Cynthia Fehrenbach I was there in September just after the Hurricane. I thought I had scratched my eye from flying debris during clean up. I never saw a Doctor just a couple of Nurses although the nurses were nice I suffered from a terrible misdiagnosis and was sent to a even worse eye dr. for Monday since I could not reach my normal eye dr. Long story short the facility is nice staff was ok but do not like getting charged for seeing a Dr. when I did not. Haven’t paid the bill going to see a Attorney to address incorrect diagnose and to top it off had bad reaction to drug they prescribed. The whole time we waited out in the lobby approx1 1/2 hours they had injured person surrounded by law enforcement not really a warm and fuzzy. Spent 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the room in quite a bit of discomfort. Even thou they were not terribly busy. Pretty disappointedMichelle Grier Don’t go to this ER for anything serious! My daughter went for back pain going through to her chest with a blood pressure of 156/109 when she got there. The PA ONLY did labs! She told her that her labs were normal, and it was PROBABLY muscular gave her Toradol and zofran and sent her home still in MAJOR PAIN (8). No EKG, nor did a CT to check for kidney stones, nor an ultrasound to check for gall stones, or anything else. “It was a waste of money. She was rushed in and out so they could meet their quota” was the way she described it! I called back and spoke to the head nurse, Valerie, and was told there was nothing she could do about it. So, we will definitely be writing the CEO of New Hanover tomorrow. This may be a good place to go for strep throat or flu, but definitely not serious illnesses!Christa S⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedLate night with 6 yr old with barking cough and sporadic breathing difficulty. Immediate service, super fast at front desk and immediately called back to a room – a private room with sliding glass doors. The staff from beginning until end were super friendly. We are elated to have an ER of this caliber so close by.Bradley Krueger⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWent with my 2 sick girls this last Saturday. Check in was fast and the doctor was great. It’s very clean and nice, was only there for about 50 min for my daughter to get seen, diagnosed and picking up meds right there and out the door. Hope to not need to visit the ER again any time soon. But if I do it will be back to this place.Nicky⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI am traveling for work and ended up at this emergency room. I didn’t even get done registering and they were ready to take me to the back. I have never felt more comfortable with a hospital or a doctor for that matter than I did tonight. Dr. Silman was very thorough and so were his nurses! Thanks for the great care!!!!Diana Fearon⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedBeen here 3x, kids, and they have gone above and beyond to make sure we are comfortable. Waits have never been super long and felt very taken care of. Kids and waiting is always tough but they were constantly checking in! Very professional, clean and friendly.Emily Ulip⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery clean facility and excellent staff. I actually had two people come in to make sure I was receiving the care I needed and I’ve never experienced that before. It was nice to see that the nurse and doctors cared about the patients well being. Would totally recommend this hospital!!Jasmine Brown⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery clean and everyone is nice! I was in and out quickly! I had to go last year on my birthday!!! It sucked but the nurses assistant said it also her birthday and she made me feel right at home. Thank you all!Tracy Meyer⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHad to take my child in for a high fever after visiting an urgent care earlier in the day. Staff here are amazing! Everyone was caring and gentle. Doctors were thorough and explained everything. Glad to live so close to great emergency care.Joel Aiken⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI went here for emergency treatment about 18 months ago. I received excellent care, and best of all I was seen by 3 doctors within 5 minutes of my arrival. This emerg facility was pretty new and everything was spotless and clean, light years better then other emergency rooms I have been to. Conveniently located for those living in the Northeastern neighborhoods of Wilmington. If I ever need emg care again, I will definitely use this “ED North”Beth Hamilton I was really upset with the care that I received. Although I got into the back relatively quickly, I cannot even say that what I got was “care “. The nurse practioner saw me for all of 2 minutes and was not at all gental with her exam. She said she couldn’t help me with my problem other than to give me antibiotics even though I didn’t have infection. I waited another 20 minutes for vitals to be taken and was quickly discharged with medication that was useless for my problem. I never saw her again after the quick and painful exam. She asked me if I had a ride home and when I told her I drove myself straight after work, she said well, I would give you pain meds if you did but since you dont, I’m not going to do that and I’m not sending you home with a prescription either. I was given my papers to sign and a script for meds that I didn’t need and sent on my way. She seemed like she was trying to rush me out of there and lacked any type of empathy. If this is what passes for healthcare, I think I’ll pass. These physicians, P.A.’S, and nurse practitioner all lack any compassion for their patients. They are so jaded that they don’t see us as people anymore. I am tired of being treated this way. When you are sick and in pain, the last thing you need is someone treating you like you are just a problem instead of a person who feels and needs compassion. I wouldn’t waste your time here. The staff has lost sight of their intended purpose and that is to heal with understanding and empathy.A to Z Thrifts⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe were there earlier this week and the staff was exceptional. Dr. Durham and nurse Liz were very empathetic toward our very dehydrated son. He was almost near death because he was not eating anything but Soymilk and not receiving the proper nutrients due to an oral sensitivity issue. Liz visited my son’s room frequently to make sure he was okay with his I.V. Dr. Durham visited frequently as well. They kept us in the loop of how things worked and what to expect. When they realized that we were from out of town, discharge papers were promptly prepared and we were on our way. To be clear, we are from Wilmington, but live out of town. I say that, so there is no rebuttal of favoritism.Audrey Pedeliski⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Had terrible food poisoning. They got me in very quick and made me as comfortable as I could become. The only complaint is the cops out front we’re giving a man a hard time who brought his injured/sick passenger into the er. There should be some consideration given to those attempting to help others in need. It’s like the cops just couldn’t wait. Sad. It was intimidating.Theresa Stralow⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe had a great experience. The staff was very nice. The doctor did a great job keeping my 8 year old calm while having to get a couple of stitches. Glad to have found this facility since we were on vacation in surf city.Jonathan Booton⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe had as positive an ER experience as possible. Showed up to a friendly staff, within 4 minutes we were in front of the MD (Dr. Terigan who was excellent). The facility is brand new and the staff were great. If you’re planning on going into anaphylactic shock anytime soon, this is the place to go!BeautyQueen MJL⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThey been taken care of me ! I love them they so niceTrixsie M⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFrom the Doctors to the Nurses all the way down to the folks coming in to change the linens, this team of medical professionals care about their patients. Despite being full on a busy Holiday afternoon, staff members continually checked in not only on the patient but also the family members to be sure everyone felt comfortable. We received thorough medical care in an environment designed to alleviate as much anxiety as possible.Kevin Fink⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe’ve used NHRMC a number of times several times for testing for Mom and once for me with a terrible case of poison ivy that wasn’t going away. It’s a great facility and they treat you very well. The only negative is that i believe this is a private practice and your insurance may not cover as much of the cost as you might expect. I ended up with a bill for over $300 for a visit that was a total of $900 for a bad case of poison ivy. No IVs or anything. Did get a prescription for meds that knocked it out pretty quickly.McKenzie Clark⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI took my husband here for treatment of a kidney stone and we couldn’t of been more impressed with the sincere treatment he received. Within 10 minutes of arriving he was admitted and practically had the Dr waiting in the room when we walked in. Incredible staff. Outstanding speediness of giving him medication to ease his pain.Jeffrey McIntyre⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedTook girlfriend in. No wait. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Clean and up to date facility. Had to go back for follow up. In and out in less than an hour. Would recommend it to anyone.Shelley Barry Billing Nightmare The Emergency Department Physicians bill separately from the facility. The billing is outsourced to a 3rd party separate from New Hanover. This 3rd party files claims to insurance but has no access to medical records. Insurance company requested records to New Hanover with no response, so they did not pay claim. 3rd party sends us the bill for unpaid claim. No-one at 3rd party or insurance can reach anyone at New Hanover for medical records. Spent 3 days in a Bermuda Triangle of phone calls where each company said I needed to call the next. If I called billing, they said to contact insurance. Insurance said call the provider. Provider said call billing. Repeat ad nauseam. In the end the customer (me) is left with the bill because these clowns cannot communicate to each other.Henry S This ER does not listen to their patients. They do not perform basic tests to rule out infections despite patients history. They only look at obvious symptoms. This is a very dangerous place to be seenJessica Dionne⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Okay. I wish I could say all good. I will start with the really positive. I went to NHRMC North Wednesday for the worst migraine I’ve had in my life. I’ve had migraines for decades but none like this one and it really worried me, especially just a couple weeks after a surgery (figured better safe than sorry). Kim, the nurse, and Dr. Durham, the attending, took AMAZING care of me. They were very patient, understanding and thorough. They made sure everything was okay and, although that took a number of hours to accomplish, they went out of their way to make me and my husband comfortable while we waited. Dr. Durham suggested a lumbar puncture, given the symptoms, which I consented to. The procedure went fine and he told me there would possibly be side effects. If there were adverse effects, he said to come back in and they would take care of them. Fast forward. I have the lumbar puncture headache. Basically, I’ve been stuck in bed drinking water and caffeine since Thursday. I went back this morning (Sunday) and had the worst experience I’ve had there. I was promptly told that they don’t do anything about this problem in their ED, that there’s nothing they could do, yet I was there for almost 5 hours. Staff was busy but they were Wednesday as well and the diffeeence in attitude was night and day. Today was negative and aloof. Today was “I don’t care”. It made me sad because this is the first ED I have been to that had been consistently pleasant and helpful. They have always been nice to my kids as well. I really hope this isn’t a sign of things to come and it was a hiccup in service. I know that the ER staff has to deal with a whole lot more than most of us realize and I fully appreciate that. I try my hardest to make it as easy as possible for them when they deal with me if I can. But it’s a two way streetAllison Gay⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedGreat staff, short wait…. Love the nursesAnthony Chisko I just got home from there. I’m having the worst pain I ever had in my life, I was in tears. The doctor ordered me CT scan and a shot of pain medication. The nurse took so long to come with the pain medication I had to go to the CT first, mind you I’m in so much pain I can’t even walk. I get back to my room after the CT and the nurse comes in with the shot which was a high powered pain medication and a pill that you dissolve under your tongue for nausea. I asked her if the pill tasted bad because if it did I wanted some water. She rolled her eyes at me and didn’t even give me water. So my CT results come back and I have a really bad back strain where I can’t walk and some type of node on my spine. The doctor says I need rest and she was going to give me a muscle relaxer and something for pain, and she would refer me to someone for a follow up. The discharge nurse comes in, no information for a doctor to follow up with, flexeril for a muscle relaxer, and a non narcotic pain medication called ultracet that I can’t even take because it has an ssri in it and I’m really sensitive to ssris, to the point where I can’t even think and it makes me a zombie, because they wouldn’t give me a narcotic pain reliever for the worst pain I’ve ever had in my life. If I ever experience pain for an injury again I’ll go to Onslow before this place. I’m totally dissatisfied they gave me a med for pain I can’t even takePaul Ratcliff⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExtremely friendly/helpful staff! No wait time at all! Dr Snyder was very helpful in finding a pediatric surgeon for my daughters broken arm!Beverly McLamb⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I was at our condo in Carolina Beach had to go to emergency room. all the staff, nurse, doctor and ultra sound lady were extremely nice and helpful in everyway. I was very impressed with your hospital and your staff. My friend got upset because we were there at the changing of shifts and everthing semed to get delayed getting discharged. . You have a great emergency department.Chesty Puller⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedStaff is amazing cross communication between charge nurses and oncoming nurses is amazing. So glad they built this hospitalLauren Davis My mother was seen there the first time a week-2 weeks ago. X-ray was done, chest was clear (or so she was told) and sent home with meds. Tonight she became very ill and felt like she needed to go back. Tonight she was greeted by a VERY rude nursing staff!! No bedside manner, worse symptoms, all they did was another X-ray and a “guess” on what it could be which mind you she was told 2 different things. She is a severe diabetic as well. I am absolutely APPAULD as the care she received tonight. They were very rude and snippy towards her as well. I finally had enough of her calling me upset that I called up there myself. (Let me also note she was there almost 3.5 hours in an ER that was not busy what so ever as another member of the staff who was the ONLY nice one she said even told her she couldn’t believe she was there so long and she would try to get her someone) The lady who answered validated what my mother said as she was NOT nice what so ever!!! When I asked for a supervisor of the ER dept I was not directed to one, and when I asked for the Nurse in Charges information she dragged getting it and was very snappy towards me for asking saying “she can’t speak with you anyhow.” I said that’s fine, she will. She said mhm. Ok. And hung up! I couldn’t believe it! No blood work, no step further than 2 weeks ago since symptoms worsened. Nothing. Just guesses. I live an hour away and travel to Wilmington for all my specialists and have all medical issues handled through New Hanover simply based on great care I’ve always received! I’m terribly upset that my mother did not recieve this care tonight!! I will be making formal complaints as I have the names of these so called “nurses” and the one who answered the phone even said she was her triage nurse. Basically, if you hate your job. QUIT!!!!Tom Sklens⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExcellent from arrival till finish. Best ER. Experience I have ever had .graham best⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Took my daughter there and the treatment was great, loved the not so big feeling that the nhrmc on 17th Street usually has.Britney-Jean Fan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The staff was nice and the most unbelievable part is that I was only there for 2 hours! I’m used to waiting 4 to 6 hours at the ER.Daniel Mccoy Went In because I lost my voice & was very sick coughing up bad stuff couldn’t hardly breath, went back within 15 mins nurse came in asked my symptoms and then sat for over two hours waiting on someone to come in Paige nurse no one came back to check on me after about 20 more minutes and having to track down a nurse to help after several RNs had passed without even asking if they could help, my wife finally tracked down a nurse and told her the situation and she replied to my wife well we are kinda tied up right now, while the nurse continued to eat. So my wife told her we were leaving and they said ok bye! Really! Worst experience ever!Susan Stankus Worst service! Didn’t pay attention to allergies and gave Rx with allergyDavid B H⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAmazing staff, clean, new and quick.
