Northern Nevada Medical Center Reviews

Before you go to Northern Nevada Medical Center, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Sparks emergency room think.

kim baker⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis hospital is smaller than the other 2 in the area and they just try harder! Previously I had gone to the other two hospitals in the area for the same problem and was sent home without the problem fixed. Went to Northern Nevada and they made me feel better and put me on the right track to continue working towards complete recovery. I now have specialist monitoring my recovery. While in the hospital the staff worked hard not only to make me feel better but understood how important it was to make me feel comfortable and at ease. They are the smallest so they just try harder and believe me from the doctors to housekeeping they were all professional and polite. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL!!!!Sher LeGault⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️My husband has been in Northern Nevada Medical Center Hospital several times. Either as a regular patient or through the Emergency Room with very satisfactory results. However, his latest experience was 5 star until they gave him medication on a completely empty stomach and then sent him home. He was violently ill. Both ends, same time, for almost 2 hours, then about every 2 hours for the next 10 hours. Which made him so weak that i could not get him up and he could not keep anything down. The staff there has always been very efficient and proper. The care he has received there has always been very efficient and proper, until this last time with the medication. Yes, I would still recommend and yes we will still go back to them. Signing in at ER is quick and easy, it is kept clean and the staff is efficient.Cheryl Sheridan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedEveryone at Northern Nevada Medical Center was wonderful. They were very nice and Compassionate. I felt good about keeping me informed every step of the way. I would recommend this hospital to everyone who likes to feel comfortable at a hospital they do everything they can to help you to feel comfortable.Melody Barnhart⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI love Dr. O’Brien. He always makes me feel like I matter to him. Unlike some of the other Doctors I have seen in the past, who made me feel as though I was just a chart on a clipboard. This office has the nicest most friendly staff. People helping people, not people just doing their job.Patty Breeka⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Everyone is so nice yet professional. They addressed my “quirks” without blinking and were always available. Some trainees were included but they dealt with the trainers as far as questions went. Were very personable. I’ve only been in hospital 2 times, both here.Doug Staton⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExcellent service all the way around. The nurses/CNAs truly care about their job, and they show it in how they treat their patients. Even when the hospital was busy, each nurse I had over my 9 day stay took time to get to know me. Dietary does a great job with the food and delivery. Would recommend without reservation.Nancy Byl⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe pre op and surgery went well. The surgery only took an hour. The staff were great. The problem was the discharge was delayed for about 3 hours. My husband should have been given the instructions to go to the pharmacy while I waited for the actual discharge. By the time I was released, the pharmacies were closed. Further, I could not get the medications the next day because it was Christmas. Then I could not get the medications on the day after Christmas because the diagnosis code was not included. Thus, I did not get any pain medications until 5 PM the day after Christmas. This was really challenging to manage the pain without the medications.Katie olsen⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI went in for a total knee replacement and was very impressed with the staff and the intimate feeling of the hospital. The staff is professional and really attends to your needs. And, everyone is very friendly. Check in was easy, pre-op was smooth and the surgery went well. After surgery you have your own room and they personalize their care.Andreea Lopez⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThey’re definitely better than St Mary’s and Renown. We had good experiences with them so far. They were effective in finding a diagnosis and treating the issue and they settled our medical bill for less, which neither St Mary’s not Renown were ever willing to do. It’s the hospital of my choice for sure.Ramona Miller⭐️⭐️⭐️The people were very nice but there seems to be a lack of communication. I was told by one person not too drink too much fluid and then I needed to drink more water. Then one doctor said I didn’t need another echo and then the day I was to go home I had to have an echo at 3:00 pm just before I went home. I never saw my cardiologist, only my pulmonologist. I was there 5 days and I never got a clean gown or my bedding change or offered wash towel or soap for my face or any part of my body. Otherwise it was fine.Mark Carlson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Nurses, Nurse assistants and Dr’s were very informative and friendly. Overall, the stay was about as good as I could ask for in a hospital although at times it felt like the communications between cross shifts didn’t take place and was a bit unorganized but at the end of the day they accomplished everything that needed to be done.Alice Nicholes⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe emergency room was great only a five minute wait. Nurses , xray, respiratory staff and Dr. Were awesome as well as the front desk staff. Best emergency room I have ever been toRobert A. Cook⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI give Northern Nevada Medical Center an A+. Why? The staff is informed, organized, competent, and friendly. The physicians and support staff are on a first name bases, which can be found on a first class fighting ship. Organizational loyalty is outstanding, and this is due to exceptional leadership. I was in for a shoulder replacement surgery by Dr. Cris Dolan. My thanks to you Chris and your team and Northern Nevada Medical Center. Dr. Robert A. Cook EarthDocC B⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️It was busy, which I expected. It’s ER during flu season. It was so busy they triaged and consulted the PA with the patients in the waiting room. It did make a difference getting the lab work done quickly. I’m sure that cut down on time in the end, but as I expected to be, I was still there for nearly 7 hours. I did not like discussing my symptoms within a foot of the man next to me. There was zero privacy in triage and speaking with the PA. Have a station isolated to do that so there’s some privacy. The triage nurse was tired and borderline rude. Everyone else was very nice and tried to make sure I was comfortable. The room I was in had the ac on, so everybody that came in my room did their best to make sure I stayed warm. There was a woman yelling and moaning for hours. You could see the strain it caused on everyone’s faces. They did an excellent job staying professional, caring and nice. I was impressed with them. It was the longest wait I’ve had in this ER in years, but as I said, it’s ER during flu season. The staff helped make it less miserable than I knew it was going to be when I went in.Mel Webb⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had outstanding care, both in the ER and in the hospital. The staff was exceptional, very caring and quick to respond to my needs. They completed numerous tests-including drawing blood 5 times-to try to determine the source of the excruciating joint & muscle pain I was experiencing over my whole body. Sasha, Nicole, Glenn and Stacae (sp) were fabulous.Richard Lezama⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFar more better than their competitor ,friendly staff at check in , nurses care, doctors have excellent bedside manners. The best of all is they don’t turn you away. And their wound Clinic is awesome and very nice people.H C⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy wife was seen at the ER for Afib episode, brought in by ambulance, so a little scary to begin with. When we arrived, the ER staff was there waiting and got right to work stabilizing her heart and running tests. Long story short, all went well, she went home that day and is doing fine. A huge thank you to Dr Book, Wende, Sierra, Wayne and the amazing guy with the blue glasses (sorry, didn’t get your name) Thank you for the care, we felt like family.❤️Christina Wyckhouse⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHad great nursing care during my recent visit. Shout out to IR tech Brent for his amazing skills and kind heart. Also cath lab nurses Virginia, Bailey, Laura and Valerie were amazing. Virginia was flat out the bomb!! Received stellar care from IR Dr Nick Carlevato. Thank you all for making my experience with you all the most enjoyable that it could be!!James Barlow⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThey are Always very accommodating, courteous and helpful staff. They are detailed on making me aware of step by step procedures throughout my visit!Tony Zapata⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I was very impressed to see the CEO Alan making rounds. The ER staff very very kind, compassionate and caring. Nurse Sarah on nights was the best. I was in 312. She checked on me often explaining her every move. Cody a new Nursing Assistant was excellent. He will make an outstanding Nurse in the future. Bart who did my echocardiogram was thorough, kind, engaging. He is very impressive. The food was good. Room was clean. I was treated with dignity and respect. They managed my pain well. Things to improve: discharge. Instructions were rushed. A Nurse Practitioner briefly discussed my test results did not write a prescription like she said she would and no one assisted me with an appointment like she discussed. They were rushing me out of there to close the floor. I hear everything. When staff are talking about not using the 3rd floor correctly in the procedure room I hear everything. I don’t need to hear grumblings. Everything considered I would go back in a minute. Good hospital. There are more positives with some improvements which can be finessed.Rose Fontanero⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy hospital procedure was very well planned and quick and efficient. Very satisfied with this hospital, if I ever need surgery again, I’ll come here!Diane deReno⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis was my first visit to No. NV emergency room and subsequent admission. I cannot say enough about how wonderful everyone was and in the future, this is only place I will go to for help.Janet Crawford⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was traveling alone from Utah to California and ended up having an emergency appendectomy here. Everyone was professional and still friendly and kind. A great place to be well cared for.Susie Smith⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy surgery went really well. The surgical nurse and recovery nurse (both named Eric) were great. So was the anesthesiologist. I think a nurse told me he was head of the department. He wore an LSU cap on his head. He was super great at calming my nerves. My actual doctor did an amazing job. My incision sites are healing so good. All of my nurses were amazing as well, with the exception of the one night nurse. Several aids told her for two hours past my scheduled time that I was in pain and needed my meds but she didn’t come. It made that night extremely painful for me and it really didn’t need to be like that. Luckily, after that incident everything went smoothly for me and she was on time for my next dose. Everyone else was friendly and super helpful, including the janitors and food deliverers. My favorite part was the volunteer who brought a dog to see me.John Mckellar⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAfter replacement of my nuerostimulator I am still able to walk. I am very happy how everything ended out. The nurses and doctors were great and did everything that they were supposed to.Janine Davies⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAll of the staff that took care of me from registering to surgery prep- before and after- were fabulous with great temperaments. Thank you so very much for a wonderful stay.Christine White⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedEveryone was very nice and very helpful thru my surgery. Glenn was my nurse, he explained everything clearly. Everyone in preop where great. Thanks to all.Carol Wallis⭐️⭐️Being in the ER is not a fun experience at any time. Yet, I feel there could be some things in place to make it a better experience. First of all, comfortable chairs/bed could have made it better. The angle I sat hurt my back and I did not ever feel like I could just relax. I was always trying to hold myself up in the chair. My friend who was with me tried to lean me back or pull up the leg section and nothing would work. When mentioning it to the doctor, he said their chairs were old dentist chairs and that yes, they are not very comfortable. Next, about a half hour into being there, I asked for some water. I asked 4 more times during my 6 hours there and I never did get any water. Finally, once the doctors finally figured out what they could do to help me, they left my room. An hour later, they came to see how the meds were working on me. Yet, no meds were given to me. The nurse had failed to give them to me. And while waiting all that time, the pain and other symptoms I was experiencing had gotten a lot worse. On the flip side, everyone we worked with was very nice and I was impressed how the doctors worked together to figure out what was going on with me. Yet, I have been to other ERs where they called at home 24 hours later to check on the patient. I have had no follow up at all and although I am healing, I feel like it is very slow. It would have been nice to have a followup call.Kim Hyslip⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe care I received was excellent. I will recommend Northern Nevada Medical Center to all my friends.Maria Hernandez⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER Recommendedall staff, was very courteous, professional, knowledgeable. Very friendly. from the front desk, the Nurse, Doctor Kim, Techs, Scan tech. Thank you for the Fast response and I was not there for many hours. I was looked at very quick. I will continue going there for any emergency, or care, and will refer people there.Mike Black⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedNurses and staff were friendly and professional. Waiting room was busy, but things moved quickly. Notwithstanding the need to be there, it was an overall pleasant experienceDavid Skoglie⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis facility has the most qualified staff. They are kind and caring. This was my second experience at the facility. I highly recommend it!!Ryan Palermo⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI’ve visited their ER several times because of a heart condition and each time a positive experience. I was just released from a stay on the 5th floor and everyone was super nice and helpful, especially the daytime nurse assigned to me. She guided me through the whole time and was flawless in her advice. I honestly hope she wins an award for her dedication. The doctor was friendly and knew what he was talking about. One awesome nurse actually pushed me in a wheelchair all the way to a distant parking lot where my car was because it was required. God bless her. The rooms are super clean and very comfortable, I only wish their beds catered to us tall men better, lol! Otherwise great and wow, what a view! Not everyone may agree, but I love their food customized just right for my condition, and so easy to order. I can’t imagine why some others had negative experiences, maybe a staffing shortage which is common at hospitals. I had to wait an hour and a half once, but that’s a lot faster than admission at the Renown ER. Without a doubt, NNMC is the number one hospital choice for Reno and Sparks.Doug Sizemore⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedGreat hospital, people do everything they can to help and make you comfortable while you are there. Surprisingly for hospital the food is quite good. I believe the medical attention is of a superior quality .Ann McGuire⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Emergency room check in and stay was excellent. Once I was checked into the hospital, communication between doctors and nursing staff was poor. As an example according to what I was told my stress test was cancelled at midnight by the doctor and it was not communicated to the nursing staff. The issue finally got corrected by the Echo technician.Larry Milligan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Northern Nevada.Medical , is a great place to be , if in need of a hospital . It strikes you as a moderne facility , The staff really friendly and professional . I felt safe and confident , with my care ! People are doing some things right over there .K E Oulman⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI’ve used facilities three times in past three years. And there appears to be a constant upgrading and fine tuning of the services and facilities. Small does not mean lacking. NN staff tops the list for caring and concern and full disclosure for procedures. Their effort to make the visit as germ free and provide quick service makes for a memorable and high point to start a recovery. This last visit staff listened to my wishes for handling my prescriptions and didn’t rush me to leave after procedure. Hospital scheduling can be a bit uncertain so it was a surprise to receive my lunch at the same time as dismissal. Staff provided a box for a take home lunch 🙂Jim Brady⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The care and the staff’s attitude were great, but the information flow from step to step of the process was HORRIBLE. I preregistered online then at admissions they could not find the records. Fortunately I had the hard copy with me, which the admissions clerk entered and kept. Later in pre op it was clear that much of the info they had was not what I gave to the clerk, but was info that was about two year out of date. So line by line I had to add, modify and delete information from memory. The the operating room nurse arrived and we found more missing or wrong info. My conclusion is there is no process for information flow in surgical cases, or no enforcement of the process.laura ijames⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedReally had a great experience, all the staff and doctors where very professional and caring.Melissa Philio⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedGreat friendly staff, and the ER is quick! My husband came in with severe abdominal pain. They had us in the back in no time at all. He ended up having his gallbladder removed. The surgeon and nurses are very attentive and helpful. They even went out of their way to insure my daughter and I were comfortable during our visits. This is easily the best hospital we’ve ever been to, and that says a lot because we’re from Houston where they have a “top” Medical Center. I don’t have a single complaint. My only suggestion would be to adjust the cafeteria hours to open a bit sooner and close a bit later, but that’s a minute issue. Overall this was a very pleasant hospital experience.hugo cabrera⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI went to the ER and all the staff was great and very welcoming and friendly and I was in and out quickly even with all the tests, scans, and X-rays.Pamela Wing⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedPatients are always quickly seen and the staff is very caring and I feel confident in their services.Jorge Alberto Ramirez-More Ramirez-More⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Attentive & professional service, but did not provide medication dose to start the process. Time of day mandated I go over half a day before I could get to a pharmacy to purchase prescription.Margo Ternau⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAll their staff was so attentive and helpful. Always smiling, even in stressful situations. There was a patient that had dementia and was frightened. She screamed for a long period of time before they could get her sedated. My nurse brought me a kit with ear plugs, eye mask and chapstick. I will certainly ask to go to NNMC anytime I need hospital care.Donald LaSage⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Food was very good for a hospital. Staff is very helpful and friendly.Camilla Kenyon⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedNorthern Nevada ER is the only place in Reno to go with a medical problem! Learned staff takes time to evaluate. Thank you, Northern Nevada ER!Jazmin Mooty⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFriendly staff. Exceptional wait times. Very happy with my experienceRudy Garcia⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedStaff were very personable and friendly. Made me feel comfortable.Brent Campbell⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAll the people involved with my stay, were all very professional, polite and supportive. Thank you for a wonderful experience.Keith Cale⭐️⛔️ ER Not RecommendedI’mean not sure the diagnosis was correct. I think my chronic bronchitis has returned. I was coughing all night I almost died from that condition a couple of years ago until I got to thepulmonary dep’t at Saint the Marys and it was resolved very satisfactorily.Gregg Risner⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExcellent service would recommend them over renown any dayKaren Dague⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis hospital has always been amazing!!! They have now done mine and my moms gallbladder removal surgery. They always make you feel comfortable in any way possible.Katie Rutherford⭐️⛔️ ER Not RecommendedAs a person who has worked in emergency care I was absolutely appauled by the care my mom recieved when we brought her to the ER for chest pain. The doctor was so arrogant and condescending. My mom was going over some of her health problems and he automatically wrote her off as if he knew what was causing her pain. He literally did not follow normal protocol for a patient presenting with chest pain. He did not provide an adequate work up at all and sent her home. I will not ever return to this ER if I have the option. I am significantly disappointed in this Emergency department. I have called the manager to discuss this problem and never reiceved a return phone call (which in all honesty is extremely frustrating because it just shows the continuation of the horrific care we recieved) If you think you or your family memeber are having a heart attack I would strongly advise you to go to a different hospital in the area. I will never recommend this hospital’s emergency care to anyone.Jane Rosales⭐️⭐️Beware if you go to the emergency room that you should provide your insurance card at the time of check-in or triage. My husband was sent to Northern Nevada Medical Center by the Renown Urgent Care clinic. He was suffering from a pancreatitis attack and Renown would not treat him since he needed more emergency care than they provide. Four hours later we were asked for our insurance information. Only then did we find out that our insurance provider does not contract with Northern Nevada Medical Center. We had to take him out of NNMC emergency room by ambulance to Renown Hospital. But in that 4 hours his bill was $21,600 and our insurance company wont pay it. How do you charge up $21,600 in 4 hours? We are stuck with the bill. Our insurance provider (Hometown Health) states NNMC charges are not reasonable or customary and therefore they won’t pay. Northern Nevada Medical Center will not even consider any adjustments. Don’t make the mistake of going to an emergency room when you are seriously ill or near death. Stop trying to get to an emergency room and call your provider so you know which hospital you can go to. We learned a very expensive lesson the hard way. Your insurance provider and hospitals will turn a deaf ear on your concerns. They are only in it for the money.George Tackett⭐️⭐️⭐️I was a bit surprised that the ER staff didn’t even clean or treat my scrapes and abrasions from falling on asphalt pavement. They just told me to shower and gently clean with mild soap after I ask. Otherwise the more serious treatment was fine.John Katsilometes⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had a very good experience and very good care at Northern Nevada Medical Center. I had a back ablation procedure that went very well. Thank you.Rodney Moser⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedBest ER experience in my life. As a medical professional myself, I can be quite critical. No complaints.Judy Frazier⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy husband had his second knee replacement surgery at Northen Nevada and there was no change from his stay in 2013 as it was in 2019- outstanding care! Check in, preop, postop, and recovery were like he was the only one they had to take care of. Northern Nevada is the only place I would recommend for anyone having joint suergey.Rob Wirth⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedEveryone was great, the whole process was went very well!!Ashlee⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedDr.Anderson and his nurse are the most compassionate people. I went into the ER thinking I had a miscarriage, they were so fast and efficient, even though I was in the ER. They did not make me feel rushed at all.Jim Cruthirds⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The nurse were great, and the were right on top of every. The food was good. And you had a menu to order from.Pam Pinkston⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe patient is the most important person. They jump through hoops to make sure you get what you need when you need it. They are patient and take the time to answer questions and explain what they’re doing and why it is necessary. This was from every level of caregiver from lvn to staff doctor. Would give higher rating than 5 stars if they’d let me.Alexandria Erdei⭐️⭐️What happen to this hospital?? It used to be the best around here, now it’s just as bad as renown’s ER. The last 4 visits have been horrible.. I thought maybe it was just a fluke the first couple but last time I had my one year old baby girl come in for a fever and they automatically wanted to put a catheter in my one year old … who was having wet diapers just fine! He was pushy on doing it and telling me it’s for medical purposes. What kind of a sicko puts one in a one year old that has wet diapers. We were able to get a sample through a bag.. and by the way no UTI… surprise!! Now this last visit we come in my husbands finger bleeding out, with a cut to the bone on his finger and we had to wait for 2 hours to be seen with blood everywhere. People after us were seen before us, I’m not sure who prioritizes the patients, but they aren’t doing a very good job.. and the front desk people don’t care to do anything but gossip with each other! Most of the staff has no care for their patients.. tired of wasting my money here!Rickey Kale⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe best staff anywhere. I will always use Northern Nevada Hospital!!! Thanks to all of you!!!Andee Loudermilk⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Service was great but had to wait in between services.Lynn McCartney⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExcellent service and care from the time I walked in for my operation…friendly staff…quick to answer calls….Diane Rossman⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedStaff in the ER and 5th floor kind, considerate and efficient. ThankyouCarl Bialorucki⭐️⛔️ ER Not RecommendedI’ve never been treated as rudely as the nurse treated my wife and I in the emergency room. And then, to make matters worse I received the bill. I have Medicare and an AARP supplement insurance that should cover all my hospital expenses. So I was surprised when I receive a bill for
