Before you go to Platte Valley Medical Center, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Brighton emergency room think.
Becky SchneiderI’ve used this facility because it’s the closest to where I live. I recently took my son for a speech evaluation. After being told both on the phone and in-person that the evaluation would be covered by my specialist copay, I received a bill for $258 in the mail a month and a half later. I called to see if it had been coded incorrectly. The rep said that the $258 was part of his deductible. When I asked why I wasn’t told the specialist copay would cover the evaluation only after the deductible was paid, she said “because no one knows how much everyone’s deductible is.” My point was, when I inquired and said I was concerned about cost, the reps should have been professional enough to tell me the that the copay amount only covered the evaluation after the deductible. I assume they work with insurance every day. That’s how they get paid, so actual customer satisfaction and professional accountability are irrelevant to them, and it shows. In the past, I’ve had urgent lab orders botched at this same facility, and was charged for them anyway, with the administration offering me around $20 to put toward a future lab when the botched order was hundreds of dollars. The administration has a cow town level of professionalism. Drive an extra half hour and use a facility that has trained staff interested in more than their cell phones.Heidi RobertsonThe incompetence of the employees at this hospital is amazing. Their billing system is horrible and trying to get an answer from anyone is beyond reason. After talking to and being transferred to 3 different departments I still don’t have an answer.Sadie EspinozaI’ve came to this ER three times this year because it’s the closest to my house and every single time I’ve came, the front staff, nurses, and doctors are very rude and unprofessional. The lady at the front desk literally said, “what do you need?” The doctor seemed very frustrated and annoyed by us. It’s not ok to act this way with people who are in need of help! The doctors don’t care about anyone. My daughter had a rash from her thighs to her lower back and the doctor came in glanced and told me to put vasaline on it and said she didn’t know what it was. 7 years of schooling for an I don’t know. I was very upset and ended up taking her somewhere else the same day where they prescribed her a cream. Not to mention there’s blood on the floor that no one has cleaned up. This place is the worst! Do not come here!Kelly ClaudiasEmergency room: blood on floor in front of my chair in triage room. Then blood on metal parts of bed in room I was put in. When I asked triage nurse about blood he said it doesn’t matter. I was in shock! Dont ever want to go there again. Its NOT clean never mind sterile!Renee ManningThis hospital needs to get better training for dealing with patients who are developmentally delayed and have staff who are more equipped to work with us and not act like we are not capable of independenceMarilyn Crabtree⭐️⭐️⭐️I was charged for physical and occupational therapy, which I never RECEIVED. I disputed these charges, unforntuatly l can not prove that I did not receive these services. So who gets this extra money? Shawn Gifford, chief medical officer or Lydia Unionville CEO? When you get you statement, check the charges even if your insurance pays 100%. Because being over charged affects us all.The Neighborhood Grower⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMiracle workers. Super kind! They explained everything to me. This hospital is A++Trevor SaylerThe nurses that I’ve dealt with here are quite literally the rudest, least caring nurses I’ve ever met. My mother was sent to the emergency room a week ago for severe vomiting and dehydration. Not one nurse there bothered to check her lymph nodes, didn’t listen to her lungs, didn’t check her for the flu, they literally did three things there: gave her an IV, gave her a catscan, sent us home with no answer. There’s a reason this hospital is called death valley by people that know it. The only reason we went there is because that’s where the ambulance went.Lawrence WilliamsStay away from Dr. Fitzgerald and her incompetent team. My prosthetic provider was trying to contact them for months on a prescription edit. I had to wait from March to September (of 2018) for a new leg due to their refusal to work with people. Then they forgot to put my wife’s prescription in…. had to go back… Then, 2 days ago, did the same thing to me. Forgot to send my prescriptions over. I have been waiting two days wondering what was going on. In addition to that, the pharmacy had to get a prior approval before filling one of my prescriptions completely (7 day limit otherwise). “Dr.” Fitzgerald’s sub-par (to be as nice as humanly possible….) had no idea that I was sitting there listening to the call. They literally told the pharmacist “I don’t want to do that right now so tell him he can have 7 unless he comes into the office” when they asked them to call my insurance to give the the necessary prior approval. Then had the audacity to call me to tell me that I could only have 7 unless I came back in. I said “you know I was on that call right? I know what you said!” She then hung up on me telling me that she wouldn’t be abused. Her? I am the patient that is not getting his medication, and walking on a prosthesis that is the wrong size because they were too foolish to get things done correctly. I can’t get a new leg because it took them so long to get the last one done. ….. She is the one being abused. To be fair, I did call her office “too stupid to get a prescription right” – but come on – third attempt and they messed it up again. I will never go back. Please save yourselves the trouble of dealing with this inept group of less than professional medical “professionals” FIND ANOTHER OPTION!Jack Linder⭐️⭐️⭐️My grandmother had an appointment here for a procedure that should only take 3 hours. The appointment was scheduled for 7:30, but the appointment was rescheduled for 11:30 and my grandmother was never informed. They in processed her at 7:30 anyways and made her wait until 11:30 to conduct her procedure. At 11:30 the doctor came in and had no idea what procedure was being conducted. He promptly left after clearly being confused. His incompetence was blatant from my first interaction with him. It is currently 12:30 and he has not returned. This 3 hour procedure has already take 5 hours and the actual procedure has not yet occurred. Additionally, the front desk staff was short and rude with my grandmother during her initial check in, and I have listened to medical staff stand around and gossip all morning. I do not normally write reviews, but I have absolutely nothing else to do because of the unprofessional and unsettling care I have experienced here. I would strongly advise against using this medical facility at all costs. Update: It is currently a Monday. Our doctor is outside our room discussing his plans for next weekend outside our room with a coworker. Update 2: The medical center reached out to me and they were very concerned about my situation. I am glad they are willing to take the input. I wish the facility the best of luck on improving the logistics that caused this situation.Rylie Maestas⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had a bad umbilical hernia that for reasons of my own, I never got fixed. But I finally made an appointment with Dr. Gawart, who was fantastic, his office staff was fantastic. Platte Valley was awesome! The pre-op experience was good, even though I was nervous and cried half the time. My room was spacious, clean, the decor was very nice, the nursing staff was great, I was on a liquid diet, but the cafeteria food was good. My experience was over all wonderful. I would never think about going anywhere else for anything else. Never did I once feel like I was an inconvenience or just another patient. Five stars and more if I could!C A⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had my first colonoscopy procedure on 06/14/19 and it was a positive experience from the receptionist to discharge from the hospital. What an amazing group of people that truly make you feel comfortable throughout a most uncomfortable process. Dr. Moss patiently explained the procedure and stopped by afterwards for a chat and the rest of the staff were professional, friendly and sincere in their words and actions. I wish I could give more than five stars. 🙂Rosa Garcia⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedGreat staff we were treated with the utmost urgency. All questions answered by every single person we came across. I would definitely recommend this hospital. The nurses were excellent and really cared. I would put names as far as people we encountered but I am afraid I will leave someone out. Thanks to all for leaving us feeling they did everything they could to make sure my husband was 100% clear to go home. The only thing that I wished they had was a rest area for the nurses. They are the back bones of the facility and keep it running excellent.Allie NapierI have tried to give this hospital a few different chances but each time it is the same level of care you would expect in a run down area. But coming from a hospital chain that prides them selves in patient care. Called this morning to get a new PCP for my son as we have switched providers. I was directed to the physician referral line, and the woman that took my call was not professional what so ever. She was argumentative about what I had said based off my location. I live in Brighton and she is trying to send me to Lafayette. Brighton and Lafayette sound nothing alike but the woman on the phone has no clue. The comments she made to her colleague over the phone were not professional, she put me on hold after I had asked her what she said. Very discouraging considering the public is searching for trust in the community, and with a representative with a bad attitude and is vocal about it. I do not trust that your network of care providers will be able to provide my family with the level of care that I need to feel safe, and be reassured that we matter like the many patients you have on a regular basis…Stephanie SalamancaThere’s a reason this hospital has the nickname “Death Valley” i have yet to meet a doctor with good bedside manner. Dr. Wilkins probably has the worst bedside manner to date. Her intention may be good but you just get this “superiority complex” vibe when she speaks to you. Eck! If you’re considering delivering a baby here I would reconsider. It’s worth the drive to have your baby at any of the hospitals outside Brighton and they’d be far more likely to support a patient led birth and / or birth plan. The er is a mess as well. I went in at 10 weeks pregnant for bleeding. The er doc kept reiterating that “YOU” will be okay, the pregnancy is threatened and I can’t tell you if the fetus will be okay but “YOU” will be okay. I understand in times like this the patient is the priority over the fetus.. but to be so dismissive of the life inside of me is just gross. With no regards to the psychological effects that loosing a pregnancy has on a woman this er doc let me know “I” would be just fine. Funny, 3 weeks later I had another uptick in bleeding and opted to go to university to get checked. Dr brown- an er doc there let me know that the baby looks good, that he knows how scary a time like this is and that he hopes nothing but good outcomes for my pregnancy. He was so kind and acknowledged how troubling this time was for me. He knew my pregnancy mattered a great deal to me and had the best bedside manner. I could go on and on about my less than ideal experiences at this hospital. It’s incredibly frustrating. I wish there was good care here because this hospital is local to me but I’d rather drive out of my way to receive compassionate care. There’s a couple good things I can say about this hospital. The third floor is clean and comfortable and the nurses are so kind. Joyce made me feel really comfortable.Maranda Salters⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe best care I have ever received from the ER staff, surgical team and floor staffXupi channel 1⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedIt is the best hospital I’ve been toBeatriz Gandara⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedReceived excellent care by all staff but especially Dr. Scott E Hackman. Best ER physician we’ve ever met. His calm and caring demeanor go a long way, thank you Dr. Hackman for making a difficult ER situation as pleasant as it can be.LINDA LYONS⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I went in for a procedure today and I was very nervous the nurse number one would not listen to me, she had no bedside manner whatsoever, overall , she was just unprofessional rude and she put my life at risk… if it weren’t for the surgery staff who were very pleasant and knowledgeable I would of written a horrible review .. thank you to Nicole , Gene, Tammy? I think u for being awesome! Heather you could probably ( should) learn a thing or two from themAmanda PischkeI will say this hospital has the worst customer service in financial aid I have ever experienced! Tia with the financial services has no professional manor. Puts you in a low when you are needing help! Denies you when you need help, even though you have submitted everything that proves you need help! Taxes, pay stubs!!! You don’t need bank statements to see what I have, it’s shown in other ways and that’s none of you’re business!! The fact Tia ran my credit score with no knowledge is even worse! That’s wrong!!!!! I have never felt so low in my life from these people! I have been in the healthcare for 11 years, I have been sick for 2, i went for help and now I’m being punished!!! Thanks Tia and your awful team for no help and forever putting me in a financial bind for a very long time! I will say being connected to the hospital with who I work with I will make sure to never ever recommend anyone to this hospital!lucy mirandaEmergency service sucks here go somewhere else you will have more of a chance to be seen than here. Even if they have nobody waiting they still take time to attend to youLisa Wenninger⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was in the ER on December 30 for breathing difficulty. I was promptly seen, a nurse assessed my condition and spoke with Dr. Harrod regarding the needs for meds and a breathing treatment. The doctor quickly came in, and was in agreement. Within 30 minutes I had a chest x-ray in my room, medications in the IV for inflammation in and around my lungs, a breathing treatment, and was feeling better. I was in and out within a couple hours. My medications were called in, and even changed later to fit my ‘insurance requirements’ of dosage (ugh!) I have been to this facility numerous times, and I have received excellent care from ER, to surgery, to MRI and X-rays, and labs. The cleanliness is always top notch, and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. It is nice to feel I can trust a facility and those in charge of helping me in my health care. This particular visit was exceptional, and I thank you.John Brady⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was brought by ambulance to PVMC on Dec. 06, 2018. The care i received in ER was very good. The aide Maria was very kind and thoughtful. I was admitted to step down ICU, where i spent 2 days. Sarah, Kathy, Kristel, Alex, Don and many others in ICU made my stay not only tolerable, but enjoyable. Thanks to all.Isidro Munoz gutierrezThis is horrible hospital. How can you put my grandma to rehab while you need a consent or letting our family know shes going there. But the fact that yall never let us know! You cant take her to rehab as a snap of a finger. And once we went and see her the nurse was poking my grandmas IV my grandma was telling her it hurts, and moving the IV around like, that´s not good… Im never sending my grandma to this hospital at all. And my own grandma didnt know why she was at rehab either! Thanks for thatTHorrible, absolutely dreadful hospital!!!! Do not advise anyone to come to this place for any reason! Brought my daughter here and I had to sit in the waiting room…..seriously!!???? Every restroom I went in had piss on the seat. DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS HOSPITAL!!!!! For those that think they should go to this hospital for labor and delivery…DON’T!Victor VargasCame in early for intestinal pain and constipation. Waited in an empty waiting for 30 min. Doctor shrugged off the pain and suggested store bought laxatives. Let her know it’s been going on a few days. She scheduled an xray and still waited an hour. Worst place ever never come here.Jazzy 160I had my baby girl here almost 2 months ago everything was fine up until the birth, my boyfriend made a comment about her being almost ready to come out and the nurses made fun of that comment as they left the room but he was right, then as I was fully dilated the nurse left the room and told me not to push as she was going to get the doctor but she started to come out and there was no nurses in the room I had to scream for one of them to get in the room, I was dispatched while my baby had to stay in the nicu I stayed there with her as I was there one of the nurses insisted on force feeding the baby but the breast consultant lady was very nice along with the custodian.BlackmountainthunderI was over the rd truckdriver come to this ER with a messed up shoulder. Doctor walks in and says you need physical therapy. No X-ray No MRI nothing. No shot No Pain at all. But the insurance got billed. If you need attention do not go here!!!Alexis Schissler-Delier – HOH StudentHorrible service. Had my brother transferred there in an ambulance and had to wait to get into a room with no meds while he is in horrible pain. Put in a room with 2 other people when he was transferred in an ambulance. I had so many other family members come to this hospital and have got horrible service every time.Alexander Stewart⭐️⭐️⭐️Not a bad place. They have a great set up and wonderful pediatrics. Parking isn’t too bad. The Dr my daughter saw was pretty eh. Eh is an understatement. She was bad. But the nursing staff are great. I think maybe it differs depending on provider.melanie Carr⭐️⭐️⭐️The best doctor I have seen here is the obgyn, and the pt ladys are nice.Sam Lengel⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was very hesitant of this hospital due to the 2.8 review rating but as usual the majority of people who write reviews have something negative to say. However that is not my experience today. I was admitted for a simple surgery and I couldn’t be anymore happier with the surgery itself, Dr. Egkberg (the surgeon), the nurse staff Josie, Lindsey, Rebecca and of course the annastealagist who’s name I can not remember go figure. The hospital overall was clean and very welcoming. This is hands down the best care I have ever received before a surgery and would recommend it to family and friends. Thank you ladies for the outstanding care and attention that was given!Randi Wood⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI’ve had 3 babies at Platte Valley. The Labor and Delivery unit is wonderful. Patient nurses who are knowledgeable and don’t try and push anything you don’t want at you. Love how my doctor was on site so all they had to do was make a phone call over to them. I also had a couple ER visits for myself, an emergency surgery, and a couple visits with these kiddos. Always walk out knowing what’s going on and what the treatment plan (if needed) is.Shane Brookman⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Staff was attentive and provided great care start to finish during our stays.Treva Joan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI read many reviews before I went in for my scheduled procedure and I was a bit concerned that there are just as many one star ratings as five star. So I kept my mind open as always and arrived for my appointment, April 13, 2018 7am. Some of the reviews were so bad I decided to bake cupcakes for the staff but I forgot them and left them at home! Grr Even without the colorful-hair matching blue and pink frosted treats, I was treated with respect and an pleased with the entire staff and process. From the check-in attendant to the surgeon, I had excellent care.Charlie NinesI have a slipped disk in my back. I’m not a medical professional, but even with no training I can tell. I go in for an mri, I’m told I need and X-ray instead because they feel I might have a broken rib (when I had no impact or trauma in that area) when the X-ray comes back good, I tell them I feel I need an mri and I am told they don’t think that’s what I need. They perscribe me a steroid, and muscle relaxer, and an anti depressant after I explained to them they have done that before!! I was then treated rudely and disrespectfully by the doctor when I challenged them. They never took a look at my back and never even came close to helping me resolve my problem. This place is garbage. As everyone notices, they only respond to positive comments. They don’t even make an effort to reach out, what’s that tell you?Kristin Mills Breheim⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedGreat care during my emergency treatment!Joshua GoldsteinI visited the financial counseling office, and Cecilia told me to return a specific time for an appointment. I arrived early for it. She came out and had someone sitting next to me come in. She saw me waiting there. After an hour and a half of waiting I asked the cashier what was going on. Cecilia came out and said that because I hadn’t checked in, I would get no service even though she admitted to seeing me waiting. I guess this is how they treat you if you’re not giving them money but rather asking for it.D a n the Trash ManI’d rate even less if I could. This hospital is a joke. They don’t care about anything but money. During my ER visit I was only actually checked out by one person and it was the nurse who did my vitals. Everyone else was short and snippy and rude with me. Now, they’re trying to charge me $1600 for not even touching me or giving me anything (no IV no meds, no room NOTHING) and threatening to send me to collections. When I call to set up a payment plan, nobody in financial counseling ever answers. Ever. I’ve left two messages in the last week and not a damn person has bothered to call me back. So now I get to drown in the stress of my honestly BS medical bill until they send me to collections because nobody knows how to answer the phone. Don’t ever go here for anything. They just see you as $$$ and not as a patient with a problem. They don’t listen because they don’t care. Saddest excuse of a medical building I’ve ever seen.Patty Carpenter⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy husband was taken to this hospital while driving through the area. His care was beyond exceptional!!! Every person who dealt with us during his stay was professional, helpful and kind. Thank you, PVMC, for your hard work and care.Wendy Kanzler⭐️⭐️Always issues when it comes to the well beings of the patient as far as letting them rest when they need to and not checking on them when need to like constant alarms and bleeding concerns. When the bills start coming in, it seems as though they have a lot of staff/doctors and labs that they use that are not in networks of insurance companies so you are paying not only to have insurance, but paying more out of pocket because there are so many out of common insurance networks.Wesley Wages⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedEdit: since this incidents listed below we have had great luck on the health side at this hospital. Billing has yet to be an issue. Possibly things are improving and maybe it was growing pains of a hospital. Charged $1000 to walk in and leave… We went because the girlfriend was having issues with her intestines… Stayed for about 2 hours in the emergency room still no definitive time to when they would see her so we left. A month later they sent us a bill for right around $1000. Still fighting with them not to pay the bill. On top of that I got a piece of dirt in my eye and scratched my cornea. It was a work comp issue my employer sent everything to the hospital day of the incident. A month later they send me a bill for $2300. I Called to resolve the issue twice the first time they said they didn’t have the claim number so went back to my employer and got the claim number. Called again to give them the claim number and they had it the whole time.M J⭐️⭐️⭐️So many memories I had working here (2010-15). Anybody that works at PVMC make good friends with nurses + doctors like I did when I first started here August 2010.Patti Weisend⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedUsually only unhappy people post these reviews, but I was given exceptional care by 3 outstanding nurses during 2 recent admissions within a very brief period of time. It all began two days after I had major surgery at UC Health in Denver. I experienced chest pains while recovering at home and was rushed by ambulance to PVMC where it was determined I had suffered a mild heart attack and need 2 stents where I had blockages of 80% and 90%. I was sent home again the next day. Eight days later I returned to PVMC emergency room via ambulance with more chest pains. My first exceptional nurse was Mindy who I first met in that ER on my second visit. She was kind and made me feel that taking care of ME was HER only priority. In my opinion, she epitomizes perfection in the profession. I was admitted and was fortunate enough to have her take care of me the next day also. She had volunteered for an extra shift when demand was high and staff was short. I will always be grateful for all she did for me. The next outstanding nurses I refer to as the ‘dynamic duo’….. Nikki and Jennah. I cannot say enough about the kindness and gentle treatment these two provided to me. Neither of them ever hurried in and out – they always took the time to assure I was okay. They asked questions and made sure that I understood what was going on with my condition. They explained my medications and how each would help in my recovery. They encouraged me to question anything that was on my mind. ‘There were many, many kind personnel, but these three that I mentioned by name are exceptional and I thought it would be appropriate to say so. Sometimes we forget to properly acknowledge those who bring rays of sunshine into our otherwise dreary days.Lauretta Arnold⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was taken by ambulance to Platte Valley Medical Center June 6, 2016. The QUICK medical care, respect, kindness we received was outstanding. I would not hesitate to use the facility again if I am ever back in the area. Nurses, Dr. Flynn, Paramedics and Fire Department were some of the best I have ever seen …..and, I have seen many! Thanks to all and God Bless. Your Texas PatientHannah Emmett⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI went to the ER at this hospital yesterday and had the best experience I’ve ever had at a hospital. Everyone was so kind, outgoing, and friendly. There was hardly anyone there on a Sunday night surprisingly, and the wait time was short to be seen, both after checking in and once in the exam room. Everyone made me feel comfortable and made little jokes and chatter with me to keep my spirits up. I haven’t experienced any of the other hospital services, but I would totally recommend their ER if you are in the area and need to be checked out.Kameron BentleyThe doctor and first nurse i go were really kind. The two times I’ve been here the doctors were nice. The charge nurse was awful though on my second visit. She was very mean and has no place working in the medical field. I’m on residency at another hospital and her care of me was so awful that I’ll go out my way to make sure NOO one gets this lady in the future. With that being said avoid this hospital at all cost. She literally is a bad apple amongst great people. Whoever the charge nurse was on April second night crew should be fired. She represents more than her job and did a awful job for everyone in the medical field. I understand everyone has their bad days but she was a raging B. The only hospital she should work at is a Jail hospital bc that’s where she belongs with that attitude and level of customer service.ed williams⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHad to go to emergency with severe stomach pain, had to have surgery next day, could not ask for any better service and care. Everyone was wonderful and concerned about my health. We were from out of state, but if we go back to Colorado and became ill, we would go back to same hospital. THANK YOU STAFFR RuhterCompletely rude and unwelcoming. When I called the number to get help they were just Talkin At Me and not talking to me.Rubén de RusWorst hospital ever. My daughter was misdiagnosed with a virus when it was totally evident she had appendicit
