Rachel Copeland⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I unfortunately had to make a trip to the ER, but the staff was amazing! They got me right in – no wait. Staff was courteous and attentive. The only reason for the 4-stars was because I was not so impressed with the discharge. I was alone, they basically had me sign a form and I was out the door. I was still pretty out of it so it was weird to me that I was just allowed to leave. The only other issue was trying to get my records over to my PCP. They took all of my MD info and found her in their system, but having records sent over was a problem. My MD had to fax them 4 times over 3 days and literally got my records 1 hr before my appointment. That’s frustrating!! Especially since I’m pretty sure they asked me in the ER if records should be sent to my MD and I said yes. Anyways, I would still highly recommend Portsmouth Hospital! There were no parking spaces available and after driving around I went to the entrance and discovered there was Valet parking which we used as a last but convenient resort. Check in was impersonal and read like a legal document on a small computer screen. Many patients were complaining of not being able to read it. Small print and long statements were hard to read and understand with a pop up stating time was out and would be extended making you seem like you were rushed and hurry up!!! The staff after admittance were very good at doing their job, making you comfortable. The wait was over an hour and a half before my procedure was done and if I didn’t have the company of my wife the wait would have been very tough. The staff were kind and caring, the anesthesiologist were great and explained things thoroughly. Recovery seemed short and sweet but I was still in la la land. My Surgeon was great and the operation went as planned. The operating Nurses were a great team and worked together well like a precision team.John Schroeder⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI arrived at Portsmouth Regional Hospital mid-morning of Monday, Nov. 11, to prepare for hip-replacement surgery that afternoon. The in-patient (Short Stay) staff was very welcoming and efficient–really made me feel relaxed and cared for–important to me because I was a bit anxious about the upcoming surgery. Thankfully the procedure, under the skilled hands of Dr. Sastry, went smoothly. I woke up in recovery and stayed overnight with the expectation of leaving Tuesday. I was up with the PT person, early Tuesday afternoon. He took me for a walk (using only a cane) down the hallway to a room to practice on a set of stairs. I was told by friends and hospital staff that I’d be walking the day after surgery, and I WAS! To a person, the recovery/nursing staff was wonderful. They were professional, amiable and attendant to my needs. I can’t speak more highly of the care I received! Without hesitation, I recommend Portsmouth Regional Hospital to others in need!Patricia Papa My father was brought in for low blood pressure, jaw pain and severe neck pain. He slept in the ER the first night because of overcrowding. Not a best situation for an 84 year old with major complications but I understand, out of your control. The first night they needed a stool sample but unfortunately the staff in the ER threw the sample away, twice. He was then moved to the 2nd floor and was tested very thoroughly, which I greatly appreciate but I’m sad to see how under staffed the floors are. We had some outstanding nurses but some that didn’t even bother to read my dad was a diabetic and feeding him regular ginger ale. The nurse on staff today rarely made an appearance in my dads room while waiting to see if he would be discharged. The doctor arrived around 1 pm and stated he could be discharged and would do his paperwork. After asking 2-3 times over the next 2 hours when we could leave due to the storm coming and wanting to get my dad home safely; he walks with braces and canes, I asked a different nurse where my dads nurse was. Her response was, “in with another patient.” So I took it upon myself to get a wheelchair and bring him home because 2 hours waiting for discharge paperwork is unacceptable! The other nurse removed his IV that was in his arm and we left. The nurse on today never offered to help clean him up or assist in anyway! This hospital should be ashamed! The visit before this one over New Years was pretty much a disgrace. IV alarms going off for 25 minutes because the medicine had run out. My dad sitting in dirty sheets, nightgown not changed for 3 days. I finally asked what the protocol was for changing them. I found pieces of IV in his bedding, empty packages of old bandages in his bed, as if people were too lazy to throw these items in the trash. I would think these staff should learn to treat their patients as if it were their family members and not an elderly person, who they could care less about. I will admit, I am pushy and ask staff for certain care for my dad but it should be done without me asking. I am so frustrated with your hospital and you should start focusing better on patient care rather than how much money you are getting from insurance companies. The visit in July 2019, there was a broken piece on the bed that tore the back of my dads leg open. Being a diabetic, that’s the last thing he needed! I could go on and on but hopefully you understand how much work your hospital needs and the areas you could improve. There aren’t too many hospital choices in the area, so we are forced to bring my dad there but I will make sure all of these issues are reported properly. I feel sad for the patients who don’t have anyone to advocate on their behalf. They sent bills to the wrong address.A person from billing never called the number that they gave to the medical collection agency. I had no idea there was a billing problem until a debt collector called. I was the one that figured out it was a billing error. I called the hospital. I offered to pay the bill IN FULL once I got an itemized statement. A month later, I still didn’t have an itemized bill. I called the billing department again. The billing staff spent more time arguing with me that their automated robo-operator left messages about my unpaid debt. I never got these messages but I did get some strange half messages where there was no name or number, just a robot telling me to call back. I keep emphasizing that my credit does not and should not be affected since it was THEIR mistake, but the hospital refuses to acknowledge it was their mistake. They say its MY mistake for not getting their robot messages. The debt collector agency assigned to the case hangs up on me every time I call to defend my credit. I am sure Wentworth Douglas is worth trying to avoid this kind of financial slander. Despite the fact that I have told two billing representatives and three messages at the debt collector that I will pay the bill IN FULL once I see a physical copy of it, I am still waiting on a physical copy of the bill. I have no reason to believe that they are going to keep this off of my credit either. The only thing I am guilty of is having a heart attack. Maybe they think that stressing people like me out will give them more business by giving me another heart attack. No one should be treated this way for someone else’s mistake. She told me to take Advil, which was fine. They ran no tests, she touched my neck told me it was likely from all my coughing (recovering from pneumonia). I payed my $200 co-pay then much to my surprise I received a $1200 bill. Outrageous. I have great health insurance. One bill from the hospital and one from the doctor directly. I have been paying it off since. I tried working with their financial department for weeks because my natural path told me that bill was unethical and illegal but had zero luck. The natural path doctor mentioned she had a similar problem at a hospital and after reporting them they corrected it. The patient advocate was also absolutely no help!!!! Incredibly unreasonable.
