Before you go to Sarasota Memorial North Port & Care Center, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this North Port emergency room think.
Donna Whitworth⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy back locked up in a muscle spasm, the staff was great. Concerned and quick with treatment. Apologized for it taking so long. I was only in there 1 1/2 hour. After reading reviews, I was worried about going there but they were great with me. Will say hospital could be cleaner especially the floors in waiting area. Being from out of state and use to hours waiting, I was glad it was so quick. Thanks for saving the rest of my vacation.Anneke Deventer⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy husband was treated this morning for a shoulder injury. The service was outstanding, far exceeding our expectations . The staff was professional, efficient, kind and friendly. We would highly recommend this Emergency facility.Amber Bartolon⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery clean. All staff was excellent very friendly and very good bed side manners. Went above and beyond to figure out my needs. Would definitely return.Shawn Pangburn⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedIn Charlotte county I have been here several times for Emergency treatment and would not go anywhere else. First quality Doctors and staff using state of the art equipment. Thank you fo everything Sarasota Memorial hospital. Were lucky to have you on Toledo Blade!oksana KolomiychenkoYesterday, my sister in law took her 1.5 year old boy there second time in two weeks, because he was throwing up everything, he was dizzy and suddenly couldn’t stand or walk like normal, doctor said it was an ear infection and prescribed antibiotics, and sent them home. She decided to get a second opinion and went to st. Pete childrens hospital, they said there is no sight of ear infection but he has a tumor size of a golf ball, and today he already had his first surgery.adam powersDr. Was a complete a-hole! The nurses were very nice though. But, if you have a life threatening illness, I wouldn’t advise going here or any Sarasota Memorial related hospital or ER. I was mis-diagnosed and almost died due to it, thank God I was forced to move to Colorado, and went to a hospital that found out what was wrong with me!!!!Amy Hill⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was there last night. I received the BEST care and I highly recommend this ER. Dr. Johnson was great and the nurse Katherine P was an angel. They guided and provided me with quality care at a very scary time. I’m thankful this facility is here. Everyone at this facility from the xray, etc were top notch!Roni Meyer⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had terrible back pain, two ruptured discs, and they worked quickly and professionally to ease my pain, get x-rays and send me to the hospital. They genuinely cared and offered support to me.AWILDA DAVILA⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedEXCELLENT experience, no wait time.. Entire staff were exceptional in my care/concerned… Highly recommended!David McIntyreThis place as well as the main hospital should be investigated for the way that they treat people. I would give them a negative star if i could.I was there this past Friday after my jaw locked open and i was in extreme pain. The doctor who should not be able to practice Medicine put me through Hell and i had to walk out and go to another hospital where i was treated fast and took care of my situation.I should have listened to other people when they said to stay clear of that place. Be rest assured that first thing Monday, I will be contacting the State! Enough is Enough!!!!Jeffrey Davis⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFirst class ER staff! TY for being awesome!Motive DougieVery disrespectful physicians working here. Brought our son here Saturday and were seen by Mark Shank who was very short, used degrading words and quick to call CPS on us after our son broke his leg slipping on metal panel on tile in the living room. We feel Profiled and targeted. DO NOT bring your children to this hospital. They seem to be the type of individuals who will send you to DCF over your child having a cough.Wendy potts⭐️⭐️I brought my son to the ER earlier this week. The day before he had a fever of over 104. It was down when we took him, but felt because of his sore throat, stiff neck and lower back pain it was best to go to the ER. The wait time was very quick, 10 minutes and women at registration were wonderful. But when we got back there, we were assessed and put in a room. I asked to see a doctor and got a PA, who was very nice. The PA never touched my son. She looked in his ears, nose and throat. Did a strep test (negative) and urine test. When I asked for a flu test I was told, “We don’t do those here.” 3 hours, never saw an MD (I was told they were for traumas) and was told it was probably a virus. I was concerned about his headaches asked for an MRI, they don’t do them there. And for that we paid a copay of $150. My son is still battling a fever 5 days later. We will take him to his pediatrician tomorrow who is part of SMH and find out what is wrong with him. That ER was very clean, everyone was pleasant. But if you want to see a doctor and have someone actually touch and examine your child, go somewhere else.Glenna Boylan⭐️⭐️Dr Butler was horrible. Too many tests with no results or explanations. She lied about being so busy but was in plain sight for the 6 hrs sitting @ the nurses station. My boyfriend refused treatment because he didn’t trust herSierra Harmon⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedChelly, RN, BSN. Verry nice and informative.J Parksit cost me over $1000 to have a nurse put 7 stitches in my thumb. I called to negotiate a lower amount and set up a payment plan. They said NOPE. I guess they can go back to calling me 10 times/week demand money I simply do not have. Letting my thumb get infected and bleed for days was the alternative.Tanya FrenerTake the extra drive to port charlotte ,4 hours later and still waiting …..Bonnie SchaarReuben Holland MD & Christopher Gray RN are a joke. They belittled my fiance, after OFFERING to give her an MRI “because its wide open”. Then later came in and lectured her how she should be grateful that they even did that. Prescribed her medication she TOLD THEM 3X she was allergic to and couldn’t take, and overheard the nurse tell the doctor outside the door she was being dramatic and it was all vanity. Then gave her, her discharge papers and left. Openly refused to give her any kind of doctors note that she had been seen for her job. IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE YOU WILL NOT TAKE THEM HERE.Tanya Schultz⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI love the staff ! I would bring my family for fantastic care.Peter GallertOur visit to the ER was horrific. My husband fell and hit his head on a cement border outside. He had a huge gash in his head and terrible pain in his arm. We signed in and waited to be seen. The nurse came out and call us in, however, we were not met with kindness or compassion but with extreme rudeness and with no compassion what so ever. I think her name was Dolly or some name like that. We were led down a hall with my husbands head dripping with blood. We met with another nurse that took down our information again. I being his wife, started answering the questions as my husband was in pain. I was told by the nurse taking down our information that we needed to speak one at a time and I said that is my husband. The other nurse processing to threaten me with calling public safety. Needless to say I was extremely appalled and offended by this. I recently lost both my parents and my husband is my world. She should have told me that he would be OK and not to worry. Where is her heart???? Then we were told to walk all the way down to the other end of the ER, with my husband again walking and his head bleeding. At no point did anyone put any kind of bandage on his head. We waited in a room and then two other people came in and stated that my husband needed to follow them to get a scan done on his head. Again making him walk with his head bleeding. During the scan, I was not allowed to go in and all I could see from the window was the blood stain on his heading spreading more and more. When the door opened, the girl said oh his head is bleeding and responded “oh they will stitch him up.” Also, after stating his arm was also bleeding and hurting, another young person came in and said “i am just going to put a band aid on it.” What kind of a place is this? We were there a total of four hours and the care we got was maybe 20 minutes in total. He did get 7 staples in his head. After all this, we received a bill that is over exorbitant in charges, certainly does not match the horrible mistreatment that we experienced. Coming from New York, this would never have happened. So totally disgusted. This does not even warrant one star. What a shame, that all the negative comments seem to be disregarded and not addressed properly to make it a better ER and for personnel to show compassion and humanity.Laurie HoppI so badly wanted to like this hospital since I’ve heard Sarasota hospitals are good. We had a very bad experience here. My husband was having lower back pain which we thought might be a kidney stone. He arrived at 3:30 and was taken back fairly quickly since there was only 1 other person waiting. Four hours and a cat scan later they told him they couldn’t find anything wrong and gave him Motrin and muscle relaxers to take home. No one was there! What took so long? He was in so much pain, he couldn’t hardly stand up. The first nurse went to get him something for pain and never came back. We got no diagnosis. No one cared. No one had any sense of urgency or compassion. No one felt bad they left my husband there for 4 hours in horrible pain. They all moved as slow as snails and seemed to be having social hour and literally wandering the halls. I finally asked the nurse Kim what we were waiting for and she said in a very demeaning voice, “you’re waiting for me to print these prescriptions” and went back to socializing with the other nurses. I’m just appalled. Never go here unless you have a lot of time to waste and want to feel extremely unimportant. Completely unacceptable.C BossI was billed over $15000 for a kidney stone. Disgusting, I will never go back.Your Local Guide :Incompetent doctors at North Port hospital sent my sister home during an emergency saying she only had a fever. We knew her condition wasn’t only due to fever. She had lost a lot of blood from an abnormal menstrual cycle throughout the week. She was severly weak. We took her to Sarasota memorial hospital in Sarasota. Turns out her hemoglobin was severely low due to blood loss and need an emergency blood transfusion or she would have died. Now the second time we went for the same problem they told she needs to take more potassium. We told the hospital last time this happened she need a blood transfusion. They told us they couldn’t say what’s wrong with her and simply to take more vitamins. Incompetent doctors at north port. PlEASE DONT PUT YOUR FAMILY’S LIFE in the hands of these fools!!! Go to Sarasota it’s a further drive but you’d waste precious time going to this hospital!!!Nancy Braun⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI visited North Port ER 3 weeks ago when I became very ill . I knew nothing about them except that they are 5 minutes from my house. Everyone was very professional and very kind and caring. I was taken back to a room 10 minutes after I arrived. I saw a doctor right away and the doctors and nurses were Wonderful. They started an IV and gave me medications and did a CAT scan.Three hours later I had a diagnosis medication and a referral to a great doctor in Venice. I am so happy that I went to this ER. The staff was very kind and caring and very professional.I would not hesitate to return in the future if needed. Thank you to the entire staffRyan funkAbsolute worst wait I’ve ever experienced, over an hour wait in the lobby then head back to the room and wait another 3 hours before seeing anyone, dr finally comes in and the visit literally lasts 1 or 2 minutes. I will never come back hereS Rickert(they don’t even deserve one star) If you are a “senior” patient, please go to a different ER. They will soak your insurance to the maximum; they are disrespectful to the point of bullying. It was clear that patient care was not their priority.Ashley KCan’t believe the A/c is not fixed yet. I have been there twice in the last month with my grandmother and it has been so hot. Wonder what the paper and news would think of this?Barb Jackson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedToday the staff literally saved my brother’s life when I pulled up my brother was having a massive heart attack all I knew is that he had stopped breathing. I ran hysterical into the waiting room my brothers lifeless body in the car. Within minutes he was on a stretcher and someone was on top of him performing CPR he didn’t have a heart beat i was brought to a room where i was informed that his heart was beating again.they out him in the helicopter to Sarasota where he had open heart surgery he is recovering in ICU this eveningNo words to describe my grattitudemomof toogirls⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Went here for physical therapy. First off the therapist, Jacky was excellent, caring and attentive during evaluation and each session. Once evaluation was sent for approval from my insurance I had to wait for a phone call from rehab department which called on a Thursday and explained the insurance approval was in and was good for 4 consecutive weeks with 2 sessions a week but due to staff out sick that initial week no one called so I could not get my 4 weeks of therapy only 3 weeks, wow!! Second week, third session, they called to cancel due to therapist having an emergency, fine, I understand. I had to convince the desk staff to reschedule me so I wouldn’t lose another session since I had already lost two due to her being out of the office the first week and no one else being able to call and schedule first 2 sessions for week 1. She wanted to just wait and see what the therapist had to say and see where she could fit me in on our next session, which was a Thursday and no guarantee I could get a makeup session on that Friday. Confusing, I know! Separate issue, I tried calling to confirm my appointment time and could not get any one to answer the phone, mind you I called around 10 times over a 2 hour span 1-3pm. I eventually left a message but it states any message left after 2pm may not be returned until the next day!!! Desk staff seem to be lazy and not care about patient satisfaction at all!! UPDATE: Good news!! Therapy department reached out to me and stated they had called my insurance and got an extension for the missed session due to lack of communication. I appreciate this so much and wished It could have been addressed in the start. I hope in the future they continue to reach out to their customers and try to improve in areas that need it.guerafla⭐️⭐️My doctor and nurses were absolutely amazing which is why I give it 2 stars but why in the world would the registrar forge my signature?? They never came to my room so I stopped at the front desk as they didn’t have my updated info. My daughter had tests done that takes 3 days for results. They said someone indeed came in and showed me paperwork I supposedly signed. Didn’t take long for them to realize it was indeed NOT my signature. SmhAdriana NaidelI am a physician assistant with orthopedic surgery experience who brought my daughter to this clinic after she had a bicycle accident. She had a full thickness tear of the skin at the olecranon (tip of the elbow). I debrided the laceration and put steristrips on it to try and keep out infection with the hopes that they would suture her wound closed. After waiting 2 hours, the doctor had me remove the bandages, opened the wound to where it was bleeding, then refused to provide any treatment, other than wrapping it with gauze. She told us to go elsewhere if mymy daughter was to get sutures. My husband and I were appalled at the lack of concern and care for our daughter, especially because wound closure must be done in a timely manner. We will never go back there and I do not recommend this place to anyone.Carla BarrettMaybe it depends who’s on call? We were there a month ago & IT WAS A CIRCUS! I would not go back there again!Phyllis Humphrey⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedEvery time we have gone there they have been very nice. Hate seeing bad reviews for them.Amanda BThis facility was very dirty, literally piles of dirt on the floor. I was seen by fairly polite staff and a decent physician’s assistant, however… I was prescribed a minimal amount of the medication I needed. When I asked the nurse whom brought my discharge paperwork, she became spiteful in spirit and explained that I should got to a walk in clinic, that it would be more expensive to come back there. The amount of my non-opioid very much necessary medicine shouldn’t be limited for any rational reason. I am from out of state and have Medicaid I felt very much discriminated. I shouldn’t be told to go somewhere else if I’m already being seen as an emergency. The nurse then sounded off in surprise after ASSUMING I was not from florida, definitely felt this woman was of the worst kind. Highly discourage anyone in need of care from going here. Also one of my nurses was arrested for a DUI 2 days before. I only sympathize for the possibility she was distraught from work because she may have a moral compass and isn’t loving being involved in or witnessing the practices she and others commit here daily. The fact that the discharge nurse was so disrespectful really makes me sick. What sort of nursing school or hospital encourages this sort of behavior?!Whats the Point04/06/18. I have never been more humiliated in my life. My doctor found a subcostal paraspinal mass and I was told to get an ultrasound as soon as possible. I didn’t even get the chance to get an outpatient ultrasound because of the overwhelming pain coming from the mass. Constant aching– when touched I feel severe pain and searing, like it’s being lit on fire. I waited two hours in the waiting room (which is long, but I did not complain). They happily took my $150, then belittled me when I asked why I couldn’t receive an ultrasound after he felt around for a minute and said I would get a steroid injection and be discharged. The response I got from the ER doctor was, “you can’t DEMAND an ultrasound. This is an EMERGENCY ROOM. For EMERGENCIES.” I never demanded an ultrasound. I asked why I couldn’t receive one when I already have an order for one and felt like I couldn’t make it to outpatient because of the pain I’m in. I was polite. I was confused. I never raised my voice. So you want to inject me with steroids but can’t tell me what’s wrong? Why I have a mass next to my spine that feels like it’s being torn apart? I am bewildered. Now I’m terrified to go to any emergency room, because what constitutes an emergency? Apparently not severe pain coming from a mass next to your spine. Edited to add this fun fact: When I told him I already had an order for an ultrasound, but came to the emergency room because of the severe pain (like you’re supposed to do and I was told to do)… The ER doctor said, “good. go get an outpatient ultrasound.”Holly ZerrillaMy 1st visit was great! Unfortunately my 2nd was a total nightmare. I was talked down to, refused services & had a nurse lie straight to my face, telling me they don’t have a MRI machine. What? Should I call human resources or a lawyer? Hmmm…Kenny JobstWorst emergency room experience ever! Had a accessed tooth and tried a few emergency dentists in town. I googled emergency room that would treat tooth pain and North Port ER pops up? The ER physician says sorry don’t treat tooth pain! Offered a shot of local anaesthetic? So mask the pain for a few hours? I had a severe infection in my mouth! I also have a mitral valve pro lapse! No anti biotics or pain medications! I understand there are new strict guidelines for prescriptions, but an accessed tooth doesn’t warrant pain meds and anti biotics!? Finally found Dr. HOMOSKY of Port Charlotte who extracted the tooth and helped tremendously! Never go to this ER again, it’s as simple as that!Michelle Kulas⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis small emergency room did the right tests and quickly found a heart condition in my healthy and athletic young teen, then had her transferred to a children’s hospital, where she was able to get the top-quality care she needed. So thankful that the doctors and staff were so competent and covered all bases, even though a heart condition is unlikely is healthy children. Professional, prompt care.suzanne PinaI was in a lot of pain had to wait over 2hours I would not take my dog there I will not be going back there.Thomas Goguen⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI took my mother there last night after a bad fall. They did a great job, and exceeded my expectations. It is great to have near by, and is a fantastic ER and should not be confused with a long term care physicality. I’m sure a couple if the lower reviews were cuased by the stress of a health crisis, but a great addition to the community – keep up the great work!!Tia Marie⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy husband and I came in this morning, and were treated with the utmost respect and highest level of care at the North Port SMH! Minimal wait in waiting room, minimal wait to see doctor once admitted, minimal wait to have everything start being treated. The doctor, and nurse (Dave) were incredible! Made an uncomfortable situation as comfortable as it could be. I would definitely return should our family need anything in the future. All staff were kind, good bedside manner, pleasant, upbeat, and knowledgable. Great care team! Thank you all for being here!!Nikolay Moiseev⭐️⭐️We visited ER on March 18th. My wife has had sharp pain from the stone in kidney. Urine with blood. Five hours no help from doctors and nurses!! My wife moaning with every breath. I asked a few times for help. Nobody helped . After five hours my wife got pain relief and slept one hour…. Got a prescription. We left ER after that at 10pm. Bad experience. Bad day for us. We can buy a prescripted medication only next day at 10am.Christine Williams⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI’ve had very positive experiences here both in the care of myself and my family. I’m not really sure what a previous comment was referring to stating that service was limited…the ER has a free-standing lab, radiology services including CT scans, and transport to the main hospital when admission is necessary. I have been present when they have performed serious, life-threatening emergency services and found it to be on par with the main hospital’s ER. The staff has always been courteous and friendly, even providing coffee or food to others waiting in rooms for patients. I feel confident in their care.B RossI felt that this stand alone ER was more like a walk-in clinic. I came for a very urgent need and needed to be thoroughly checked. The testing was limited and the service was limited as well. They didn’t even have a pillow for me! It wasn’t like a real ER by any stretch. I ended up having to go to another ER across town and got much better service and correct treatment.Ciara Harrington HarringtonBetween the last 48hrs of being at med express and Sarasota memorial ER, I’m feeling a little bit displeased. I went in to the ER with trouble breathing. Because of that I was grateful they took me back right away. Day before I was diagnosed with pharyngitis, at MedExpress after the doctor looked at me for 5 mins walked out the door and said my strep test was negative, gave me prednisone and sent me on my way and instructed if I got worse then go to the ER. So when I go to ER the next day and told them what had happened and how I wasn’t feeling any better and actually worse with not being able to breathe, chest pain, migraine, swollen throat etc, they started running test. My stepmom and I of course threw out our theories of what it might be and the history of my family when it comes to illnesses and how we don’t project normal symptoms to most things. Well they ran a bunch of test; ekg, chest X-ray, strep, and blood cultures, along with my vitals they told me everything was normal. Although my blood pressure was sky rocketed from the moment I stepped foot into the place. When they came back in to tell me “there was nothing they could do for me except send me home” I was instantly upset. I asked them if they performed the tests I wanted them to and they informed me NO they didn’t because they aren’t a regular hospital and they would have to send the labs out, which in my books would of totally been fine… they already have to send out the strep culture so I would be waiting on that so why couldn’t they send out a blood culture too… well they just don’t do that apparently and I get told to calm down and stop being so frustrated. Well excuse me for being frustrated after getting no where in 2 days, left with absolutely NO answers other than to follow up with my primary doctor which the one who i was assigned to when I moved down here never answers their phone and can’t get me in until July because I’m sure this issue that’s going on can wait until then! I’ve never seen such poor nurses and doctors in my life. This is absolutely ridiculous and this is not how patient care should be handled.Graciela PerinOn May 24, I went to the ER of Sarasota Memorial Hospital because I had been feeling the symptoms of sinusitis for a week. I was seen by the staff with kindness and professionalism, however quite poor actual medical attention. I was seen by a PA-C, who only checked my ears. A nurse then washed out my left ear because I had some wax. I was then told that I was going to hear better and the nurse proceeded with the discharge papers. I asked her to send the PA-C back because I was disappointed, I let her know that I had come for sinusitis symptoms and that my throat was bothering me, and she told me that I had not told her that. When one complains of sinusitis symptoms, I would expect that the logical course to achieve a proper diagnosis would be to check the nostrils, throat, ears, and lungs. Personally, I feel cheated of proper medical attention and am utterly disappointed and shocked at the lack of adherence to basic medical protocol and service. That said, I would like to know how much Medicare is going to be billed for health care that I did not receive or how this situation will be remedied.Chad Smath⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAfter having an experience with fawcett it was great to see and find such a great facility. My wife was treated quickly..effective and knowledgeable staff in the ER. Private rooms with glass doors not curtains. The quality of care and timely care was out of this world. I cannot recommend this hospital enough. From start to finish you get an A+ from me. Thank you for being an example of what hospital er staffs should be like.Valerie Weiskopf⭐️⭐️Ridiculously long waits even when no one is in the waiting area, unless you come by ambulance. Almost everyone is sent to main hospital in Sarasota and the staff all babble your personal medical business right in front of everyone in the waiting area. You must sign your life away with privacy paperwork but no one there really respects that law. Yet, the emergency staff does quickly stabilize patients, for which I am profoundly grateful.Curtis IngersollNo stars . This place is a circus , almost everyone in here is clueless. I got stuck multiple unsuccessful times to have blood work . When I arriaved with severe pain in my belly button possible hurnea , they tell me I’m constipated . Ha . I am the least constipaded person on the planet . I asked if that was all that we could do ? They told me yes and discharged a very furious patient . I don’t care if I’m dying I will not ever go back. EverS StandfordWorst experience ever. The medical staff have no clue what they are doing. I hope no one with more than a little scrape go there for medical advise of any kind. Don’t waste your time or money on clueless people. You will get two separate bills. One from them the ER and another from a different office for no more than looking at you and referring you to an experienced doctor that has knowledge and proper training. I hope this helps those whom do their research before entering a huge waste of money and time.karen hammarstrom⭐️⭐️Not the greatest experience at this place. Wouldn’t recommend, this place is not the same as going to a hospital ER.Miranda Rodriguez⭐️⭐️⭐
