UAB University Hospital Reviews

Before you go to UAB University Hospital, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Birmingham emergency room think.

Dennis F If I could guve it less stars I would. Absolutely the worst! Took my daughter in at 6:30 pm for a severe reaction to a prescription after being sent ther by the UAB doc in the box. She had no balance, was dizzy, her joints hurt all over and was getting worse. They took her into triage then we went in the waiting room at 11:30 (yes, five hours later) she still had “12 ahead of her”. We left and went to St Vincents ER and was in an ER room in 15 minutes, treated and admitted all within two hours after telling us she should have been treated much sooner. My experience with UAB medicine has been stellar until I needed the ER. Never again!Luv Kumar Shame. Did not expect such a worse service in a developed country. Total shame. Not even a pain killer was given for almost 1 hour and when asked, nurse answered rudely that its going to take time. I do not understand what is the meaning of emergency if you are not going to get preliminary treatment for your emergency. Our Indian casualty departments are much better and more efficient. Emergency system is totally a disaster here.Jessica Lockhart⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI see a lot of bad reviews, but let me share my experience. This hospital treated me with the utmost respect. The staff was kind and attentive. They cared about me and my pain and helping me. The best experience I’ve ever had at a hospital.Cassie Sheetz My mother blood pressure was at stroke level, when we checked in it was 195/100 and it had been higher. We waited 2.5 hours for a male nurse practitioner to tell us it “wasn’t that concerning” and to “keep taking her bp meds” he NEVER listened to her heart or even checked her out…. told her to follow up with her family dr in 30 days. Then he told us we would see the dr and to wait. Next thing we know is the girl at the front paged us up to dismiss her. When I asked why we weren’t seeing the dr she said “ the nurse practitioner talked to the dr and he said to release her”! Bp is a silent killer and it has been “ hypercritical”for days. If I could give zero stars I would. These people do not care. I took. My mom there because it’s supposed to be one of the best I’m the country. That is not the Case.SAMSUL AREFIN This is the worst Emergency care I have ever seen in my life. I been waiting for more than seven hours .Karie Overton If I could give a zero I would. I am so disappointed in this Emergency Room. My husband goes to this ER( which is known for research studies and is supposed to be the best hospital) and it is God awful. He passes out in the waiting room a nurse wakes him up and he still waits in the waiting room. When he gets seen he never goes to a room and a doctor talks to him in the triage room. He gets prescriptions which he already has and is not given anything in the the hospital so he still leaves the hospital in pain. I guess we’ll be going to an other ER. This ER doesn’t care they have wasted our time plus didn’t even bother to properly check to make sure my husband was really ok before sending him home…. DO NOT GO TO THIS EMERGENCY ROOM!!!!!!Patty Griffith These nurses and doctors are paid to play and complain about their job. I was referred by another doctor for a cat scan and they told me they told me they would have to refer me out. ‍♀️ I was going to apply for jobs at UAB but not now.Bethany Donegan My father’s doctor instructed us to take him to the ER for kidney failure (leas than 10% function) and he would be admitted for dialysis overnight. Checked into the ER at 5:10pm and waited in the waiting room until 2:45am (9.5 hours)!!! We were told that uab is a diversion hospital so the typical wait time is 8-10 hours. They informed us that this was normal and nothing to be alarmed about! The hospital does not care about wait times at all. It is now 7:15am (14 hours) and we are still in the ER but at least now have a bed. The staff (minus one receptionist) was understanding but they could do very little to help. We will definitely call an ambulance next time rather than driving to the ER and his kidney doctor is getting a phone call today for not putting in the proper admittance orders. Uab transplant is fantastic but the ER is the worst I have ever experienced.Lori Hill Awful. I carried my mom here mid afternoon on a weekday and was told patients had been waiting 8 hours. I left and carried her to Grandview. I don’t go to the ER unless it is an emergency. There is a police substation inside the ER. The waiting room was filthy and makes you feel as if you are either in a holding cell or a homeless shelter.Emmitt Jackson Jr This is the worse ER I have seen in more than 40 years. Young lady comes in spotting with Triplets. It takes almost 4 hours to be seen. I will never use UAB if it’s in my control. UAB , you have one of the best Medical Schools in the Country. This is Piss Poor Customer Service. I’m speaking with an MHA.carolina Aquino HATE THIS HOSPITAL. HATE IT. Do not recommend it for nobody. I being in the ER for 9hr they did the ultrasound and still wating. Never told me what was wrong with me and they just keep telling me to keep waiting. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL. Go to a smaller hospital they will treat u a lot better.T Rochell I am a UAB graduate, and I am ashamed of the level of service being given to UAB patients. I recently visited the Emergency Room (ER) with a family member, and we literally waited over 3.5 hours in the waiting room. If the wait had been 20 more minutes, we would have sat waiting to be seen for an emergent matter for 4 hours. Unbelievable. It’s unconcionable to have individuals wait that long for emergent matters, especially with a hospital that prides itself in its state of the art medical services, facilities, and medical school. Because of the wait, I would not recommend this ER to anyone. I would suggest visiting the Freestanding ER in Hoover, the ER at UAB Highlands, or the ER in Gardendale. UAB please do better, your patients deserve it.A Potato Explains If I could give zero stars, I would. I’ve been here with my mother for 9 hours In the ER, waiting for her to be called back. As I type this, we’re still waiting. We were assured, 3 hours ago, that she was “next in line.” I hope she’s not dying. Not that they’d care. Even when you are polite, the people here treat you like a number. A number that they have no problem crumbling up and stepping on. If it’s an emergency, DON’T COME HERE.Heather Harrell We sat in waiting room for 8 hrs. Some had been there 12 hrs. Then only to be seen and sent back to my Dr in Dothan that was doing nothing for me! No wheelchairs for patients, thank goodness I took my own. And it was nasty! Highly under staffed and very disappointing!!!!Chad Yeamans 1 Star for the kind and wonderful nurses and Doctors we saw on our unfortunate visit, but should be zero. Definitely the oldest, dirtiest, and overall worst ER I’ve ever been to…..and I’ve unfortunately been to 20+ across several states. The waiting room is borderline disgusting and unbearable, I almost left the second I walked in. But I stayed and regretted it. After getting checked in, you sit in an old, dirty, very crowded waiting room with no ability to check a wait time like many modern ERs. Many people get up and leave, but that won’t improve your wait time because they will call the person’s name 4 times, with 5 minutes in between each call and in the meantime no one moves. Once called, you are escorted to a very dirty room; there is visible dirt in the corners, shoe marks all over the walls and floors, old equipment, old bathrooms etc etc. I was seen by no less than 3 different nurses, and 3 doctors and while each of them was polite, informative, and helpful I didn’t see a single person wash their hands. I even watched them perform a minor procedure without the use of sterile gloves or washing their hands. Now, they could have washed them before they came in the room, but just saying I saw NO hand washing. And to add insult to injury, the police brought screaming, violent, and uncooperative people in and out all night. Not sure what’s going on here, but DEFINITELY go somewhere else…..Keyasmine Hughes If I can give them 0 stars I would . This is the most slowest HOSPITAL EVER . I been sitting in the waiting room since 12 noon and I still haven’t got called to the back and it’s 8:32. UAB SUCKS AND I WILL NEVER BE BACKSam Never again. Ever. Waited from 6:45 til about 10:15 to see the doctor for about 7 minutes. The doctors have lost all compassion and just don’t care anymore.Jennifer Lamons Overcrowded, understaffed, filthy, EXTREME wait times, little to no communication from doctors.Lora Raley I agree with all the reviews that the ER is bad. I was sent from Cullman with broken bones in my face. Lucky the gave me morphine at Cullman so not much pain when I arrived. I was in ER 18 hours with bloody towels and towns that no one bothered to pick up, ER was filthy . The best thing was the actual at the Hospital that did my surgery. With Dr Ting and his fantastic staff I have no scarring in the outside of my face. Had broken/shattered bones and my top pallet broken. It is sad we have to go through that filthy place to get high quality Drs from the hospital .Scott Cobb Waited 9 hours to be seen while having a heart attack- I went to my primary care provider who suspected I was having a heart attack and immediately sent me here. They did an EKG and set me in the waiting room. I waited NINE HOURS and was called back for a routine BP check. I told the nurse that my symptoms went away so I was thinking about leaving. The nurse took some blood work to “move things along” and the blood work confirmed I had had a heart attack. Then I was treated right away.eraisys herrera⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHonestly these people saved my life. I had a heart rate of 195. I’m blessed to be alive.L E I honestly wish I could give 0 stars. This er/hospital is one of the worse. After 12 hours total they did really do anything for my husband. My husband has been having major issues with his kidneys and has had to have 11 surgeries. He was referred to a urologist at UAB and the only way to see the urologist quicker is to go to the er. This place makes no since. Another time my husband had to go to this dr for the same issue a lady came in with a still born baby and a nurse gave her a napkin to put over the baby and left her sitting in the er crying. This hospital only cares about money not the people.garci garci Pity atentionChloroform_Girl3 Dont come here ! My bf and i went here because of pain in my side and blood , ong story short i passed out and come to , the nurse made the comment to my bf that if i die just move me out of the way .not at all a good place.De’Angelo Stafford The wait time is honestly ridiculous like it’s almost like they forget you exist as a patienthabbie22 Was sent here for an MRI at 1:45. It’s now 10:50 and I’m still in the waiting room, haven’t seen anyone. Keep getting told they can’t tell when I’ll get in, but everyone that casein when I did has already been seen. Also, the vending machines don’t work so we’ve had nothing to eat since breakfast. Extremely unhappy!Dr. Albert Dyess⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWent to the ER a few weeks ago I gave them five stars for their caring and compassionate and friendly timely service but also have to say that they paid no attention to what I was trying to tell them about my drug allergies they went by what was in the computer 10 years ago and I haven’t been there for 10 years so 10 years later my drug allergies are changed but yet they don’t believe me don’t go there unconscious.josh wright 6 hours, 6 flipping hours and still haven’t been admitted. How does this get to the point of this being ok? Why do these idiots still have jobs? Would not recommend this place to anyone. Could have driven to a different state and gotten care of by now.Amanda Fox I’ve heard such wonderful things about UAB Hospital, but their emergency room is really disappointing. I drove my friend here and he told them he’d been unable to urinate since the previous night, which is a legitimate medical emergency. When you cannot urinate, your bladder keeps filling until it eventually ruptures. He was in severe pain but the staff really didn’t seem to care. For an “emergency room” this place has zero sense of urgency. Just a ton of people standing around, not enough places to sit, chaos and confusion. It was clear they weren’t going to call him back any time soon, so we drove to St. Vincent’s ER where he was brought back into a room immediately. And even though he was not seen, UAB still sent him a bill for $130!Jaber Alnajar The worst everSammy Montalbano It is absolutely ridiculous that it takes over 5 hours on a Tuesday to see a medical professional. This ER is highly understaffed and the facilities are old and ruin down. The restrooms were a mess. The attitude seems fairly uncaring. Why is UAB building new buildings and taking on new projects when they can’t even handle a basic emergency room?Renee Keefer⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThese people gave me my life back . I was there for 1 month for brain surgery. I’m very blessed!!!!Alley Maeger If zero stars were a thing. The worst hospital vist i have ever been to.Justin Lynn Worst wait ever if you have an emergency you can literally drive to another hospital and get treated quicker than uab er wait time pethetic. They do not take their jobs seriously or care about their patientsKevin Armes Worst care anywhere. Go to Grandview! Sent there by UAB Clinic in Gardendale with 178 over 113 BP….they checked it after arriving there at 146 over 106, still really high but where I needed to be right? Good thing I didn’t have a stroke while I waited like in a doctor’s office, then was told I should have gone to my PCP…..but he sent me to the EMERGENCY room because my BP was dangerously high. My PCP is UAB also… my age I’ve been in many big city ER’s and this joint disguised as an ER is hands down the worst. I’m finding a new PCP that uses Grandview Medical Center which is a state of the art facility. No wonder their reviews on FB and other internet sites have them at no better than 2.7 out of 5. Thanks for nothing UAB! Fire whoever is responsible and find someone that can get it in shape!!drona trital I am waiting for 2 hour to see a doctor! Still not calling ! Would like to ask to doctor or hospital administration the meaning of ’emergency’!!!!???? Octavius Mcdonald They don’t care about psych patients careTyja Anderson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Reclined chairs; tv; cleanliness but service is EXTRA slow.Jody Morgan⭐️⭐️Waited 12 hours without being seen with an oncologist order waiting there. I have stage 4 cancer and in horrible pain. When I asked for a blanket after all that time they said it was a policy not to hand out.Chelsey Harris Mother was in ER and asked one of the nurses to please help her. The nurse replied to another nurse with “apparently we’re not helping her enough” and then walked away. Very displeased with how they treated my mother.Tamara Delva I am here since 3h p.m. with extreme pain from my stomach. It’s 11h p.m. now. They told me to wait for 9h to see a doctor. I am still there . Shame shame !!Kamaria Godfrey They service is sorry as hell!!!!
