My son was coming down with the flu and we took him in to get him on Tamiflu as it has done wonders for him in the past. The doctor never did more than poke her head in the exam room (honestly, we didn’t even know it was a doctor) and were told, “It’s not the flu, he doesn’t even have a fever”. The next night, he had a raging fever and was back into Urgent care, where he was diagnosed with the flu. For his misdiagnosis and lack of any exam from a doctor and downright disrespectful acknowledgment for our concerns, we were billed over $1800. The same night, my daughter was suffering from a horrible headache that was into at least 3 days duration. We took here in at the same time (she has zero history of migraines). The doctor there, talked with her (no physical) for a couple of minutes, ordered an expensive injection and said she has migraines. The injection helped somewhat for an hour. We went home and she was back to the same level of pain within an hour. The next available appointment, we took her to our family doctor, who diagnosed her with a sinus infection and her headache was cured after the first dose of antibiotics. For this misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment, we we billed over $2600. The grievance process with UC health is awful. They won’t let you talk with any person that has any decision making ability. It’s much easier to deny, deny, deny when you don’t actually talk with the people, but rather read their cases on paper or read someone else typed synopsis. I followed the protocols – sending emails and giving verbal reports to someone who was merely a typist only to get a cold letter response saying, essentially, “No, claims unwarranted, give us our money”. We know we misdiagnosed and didn’t do physicals but we want our money anyway. UC health is taking physical exam findings, talking with patients medical culpability out of medicine. UC health will never see another dime of our families money. I plan on complaining to what ever board of medicine I need to as I think their care was deplorable both during and after the experience.Vin DemoineI am a taxi driver who does medical runs and I had picked up a woman who had just been discharged, not even 600 ft away she starts to have a seizure and is foaming blood from the mouth, so of course I pull back around as fast as I could to take her back so she can get help from people who know what I’m doing. Went to the ER yesterday with my girlfriend. They said she probably didn’t have a dislocated shoulder but they’d do an xray to know for sure. Asked how much it would cost, and it took 5 people 20 minutes to give us a price. $420. In 2 minutes I talked with a place that will do it for about $70. Turns out it’s the same place the ER DR was going to send us. Ask for an “order” from him to get the xray, says he’ll write it up. Nurse comes back in 5 minutes, tells us we have to go to another doctor to get the order before we can get xray. Hmmm. So If we pay 350$ more we can go now, but If we don’t want to/can’t we have to spend more money and waste more time to go to another Dr and end up at the same place!?! They would not even tell us the cost of a visit. Only went because they said they could determine and fix a dislocated shoulder, which a chiropractor suggested might be the issue. Turns out the internet and experience is more helpful than our medical community. 2 pieces of KT tape nd already great improvement. Will be followed up with rotator cuff exercises (which is the actual nature of the injury). UC Health ER doctor wrote us a $420 xray and 2 prescriptions, none of which would actually help solve the problem. Makes me wonder what actually drives our healthcare system; desire to make people well, or..v starr⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️very quick and effecient staff…so much better than staff at older PVH/UCM staff hospital care, which can cost you 5-6 hours of your time at the older ER. PLUS these docs, here, actually act like they CARE, but do not expect any diagnosis, profound awhah moments, or real doctoring. most hospitals are bandaid stands, now. they assume the least and treat you as such..you’re lucky if you are chronically ill, if they do more then a bag of saline, a cbc panel and a anti nausea med…no…do not expect real doctor services.
