Before you go to UCHealth – Meadowgrass, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Colorado Springs emergency room think.
Barbara OldhamroseOh my gosh didn’t even get in the door and the lady said we don’t know if we take your insurance….we have Tricare for life and Medicare. Said the doctor has to see you first. Never had that happen before. Walked out and went to another facility and no problem.Jeffrey Dolgos$2150.00 for one hour, X-ray and an ace bandage. Went for my daughter’s sprained ankle…blew up huge and late at night. Just wanted to make sure not broken. Brutal.Chellie MaciunskasCalled to explain what I needed to make sure I was at the right place and “Sue” couldn’t talk, rushed me off the phone. Seriously, I had one question.. not going to apply my time to those who cannot apply theirs. Sadly will never use this facility, would rather go out of my way to sit in the ER at penrose for a bleeding leg and stitches.Dave BatesIf you have insurance that’s pretty generous with ER visits or if money is of no concern, then go here—the care is fine. If you are paying out of an HSA like us, then avoid this place as best as possible. Charges here are based on it being a Level 3 Emergency Room. This means that EVERYONE walking in the door is billed as a Level 3 emergency and NOT by the actual degree of their emergency. From my experience, it’s safe to assume that just walking in the door starts your bill at $1,600. I took my son here over a possible broken wrist. The entire visit was just over an hour. They did the standard (took his vitals, asked some routine questions, etc) then they took an X-ray of his wrist. They consulted with a doctor in Denver and came back saying that they couldn’t tell if there was a break or just a sprain and that we should see a specialist. They put his wrist in a velcro brace and sent us on our way. We were billed for the ER doctor’s time roughly $300, the X-ray technician cost another $200 or so, and the X-ray itself was just over $500—all three of which I was fine with paying for. To me they all represented reasonable costs for services used and billable time of the staff. But the kicker was an additional charge of $1,600 for the ER. After requesting a supposedly itemized bill, UCH sent me a breakdown which showed the $1,600 as being a charge for the level 3 ER. And that’s it, $1,600 for just walking into the place. When asked how they can justify the cost, the answer was about how they have so many expensive machines and highly skilled staffers. Seeing how we already paid $500 for the machine we used AND the highly skilled staff couldn’t make a diagnosis, I was underwhelmed by that answer. We basically paid $1,600 for getting checked in, having vitals taken, and getting a velcro wrist guard—and for calling out this outrageous charge I was called irrational by the UCH bureaucrat on the phone when I called to try and get this lowered. The actual specialist we saw the following day diagnosed my son as having a bad sprain and charged us about $300 for his time. So again, if money is no object, then go here. If money is an issue, then be warned, it’s gonna be a big bill.Susan Ryan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedTook my daughter for abdominal pain-everyone was helpful and caring. Awesome compassionDes PehlivanThis place is absolutely horrible, I was sent here from the Urgent Care down the road so they could run and X-ray and such and the doctor here basically told me I wasn’t sick and was super rude.Scott RFirst, I went there with extreme, I mean extreme leg pain and cramping. To start off the receptionist treated me like I was there to get pain pills and was very uninterested in hearing what I was going through. After I told her what I was experiencing I asked her should I go to the Urgent care that your company runs just around the corner or stay here. She said she can’t answer that question and said we are an ER. I could barely walk at this point and said I will stay here. They asked if I needed a chair, obviously I did, but I felt like I was putting them out. I made it back to the room and the blond nurse was really nice. I told her this came on a day and a half ago and haven’t slept, the pain was an 8 and could not walk more than 50ft. The doctor came and appeared to assume that I was a drug seeker, asked me a few questions, felt my calf (that was all care I received, maybe two min) and said you have a cramp, take Advil and go home. Didn’t tell me what I could do, but said he will send some instructions and left. The whole experience made me feel discouraged and hopeless. The next day I made an emergency appointment with a Licensed Physical Therapist. She spent an hour with me and discovered that my Sciatic nerve and Disc was causing this, also a term I can’t remember when the outer hip muscle and nerve were affecting my calf and knee area and were so sorry that the doctor could not at least help relieve the pain. The whole experience, in my opinion, was a lack of care and not looking more into the problem and I felt the assumption was, I was just searching for drugs, sad! I’m sure it will get worse when I get the bill for two min of care.Ashlie HiltonBelieve the billing stories on here. Our insurance covers all ER visits 100% after a $75 copay, in or out of network. We have been and continue to be harassed by their billing department. I’ve talked to them and my insurance multiple times. My insurance has repeatedly told me we are covered and they should not be contacting us and should be working out any issues they have with the insurance people. I’ve told them this. My insurance has told them this. They know this. Their billing department sent us a letter that could best be described as whining about how their prices are fair and we are going to get stuck with whatever the insurance doesn’t pay because they should get that money. Thought we’d finally all come to an understanding and guess who left a message on my phone yesterday?! Seriously, drive to another ER. Not worth the headache. I never leave reviews but this place handlings billing by overcharging for services then trying to scare people into paying something they legally can’t collect. It’s insane!David Bolthouse$11,000 for one hour there! Take care to ASK how much it is going to cost. My mother-in-law had some difficulty so we went there to get her checked out. She turned out to be fine, but she (and I) nearly had a heart attack when the $11,000 bill came! That is not a typo — it cost $11,000 for one hour there, and she never saw a doctor in person — he was on a monitor from another location. There should be a law that requires the costs to be revealed and agreed to before hand, so the patient can decide. I was thinking it might be $1,000, but never thought they could get away with charging her $11,000! It is highway robbery.Tanner WalulikIf you can go anywhere else go there. I had the same result as most of the comments below. I took my daughter there because it was the only place open and they are in network for me. My daughter had a fever and it was flu season so I thought I should go get her checked out and start meds ASAP if she had an infection or something like that. The place is clean and the people are friendly. We were there for about 3 hours, they ran a couple of labs but couldn’t determine what was causing the fever. We left with instructions to see our normal doctor. We did the next day and found out my daughter had an ear ache. I expected that the bill for my daughter’s visit would be kinda high because the place labels it’s self “Emergency Room”, but the bill I recieved was ridiculous. Almost 3000 dollars! For learning nothing about my daughter’s condition. The largest part of the bill was a charge for a level 3 emergency visit. For a fever. I called the billing company and my insurance several times and finally got an answer on why it was considered a level 3 visit. The doctor give my daughter a med for vomiting while we were there. Funny thing is, my daughter wasn’t vomiting. Doesn’t matter, the doctor gave it to her so I have to pay around 1200 $ for this tea spoon of medicine that she didn’t need. This place is a scam looking for anyway it can rip you off. Don’t be victim like I am, go somewhere else.Janice Ward⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedM visit to First choice was extremely positive. Every employee I came in contact was nurturing and helpful. The Dr did a thorough exam and determined I needed an ultra sound to rule out a blood clot They had to call in a person to do the test. The wait was within reason and she was extremely nice and caring. Three employees walked me to the front door and offered to help me to my car. I will recommend First Choice Emergency room. It was a pleasant experience. I can honestly say I have never said that about a traditional ER!Cole Family⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe have needed to visit First Choice Colorado Springs North twice in the past few months. Both times we had a very positive experience. The facilities are spotless and up to date and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Check in was prompt and efficient; they took us right back and allowed us to finish the admission paperwork while getting started with treatment. Dr. Maul and the medical staff were gracious and professional, listening and making us feel important. Although we don’t look forward to going to an ER, we are so glad that First Choice is there when we need it.Lacy Sramek⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe staff at First Choice Emergency Room made this the best experience possible for an emergency room visit. The doctor was incredibly friendly, thorough, and helpful. The nurses were also wonderful. They made me feel comfortable and relaxed (even though emergency room’s are anything but comfortable or relaxing). My experience there was wonderful, but the best part about this emergency room was the care I received when I got home. One day after my visit, I had a doctor call me to make sure I was doing alright and to see if I had any questions. As it turned out, I still wasn’t feeling well and was running a pretty significant fever. He walked me through what I should do as far as bringing down the fever. He was incredibly friendly and helpful. He also told me that I shouldn’t hesitate to call if I had any other questions. And so the next day I called to talk to another doctor because I still wasn’t feeling the best. He was just as friendly and helpful as the two doctors I talked to before him. They were able to sort everything out, and now I feel great. This was easily the best emergency room visit I have ever had, and they have definitely earned my loyalty.Houston TarwaterAbsolutely the worst experience I have ever had with any form of medical Professional. Doctor was absolutely worthless. Made me wear a mask for flu-like symptoms, but then would not give me a flu test. Nurse was much more understanding and agreed with my frustrations. Have been dealing with this awful experience for months now. Save yourself time/money/headache and go literally anywhere else.Peter Anwyl⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI received a first class service. I was staying with friends in Monument, Colorado, having recently flown in from the UK and suddenly developed intense shoulder pain. We attended this emergency room and we received very prompt attention including an x-ray. The receptionist/administrator (Daysha) was very helpful in making contact with my medical insurers ( being from the UK this is not a process we are familiar with) and all the staff were very professional and helpful. If you have to attend a hospital for emergency care this is as good as it gets. Many thanks for your help.Jessica Angeline⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI didn’t exactly have an emergency but I did feel the need for urgent care and this location was the most convenient for me. I was lucky enough to be the only patient in there and the whole process was super fast and easy. The atmosphere was warm and very comfortable and every individual that I came in contact with was extremely pleasant and helpful. The nurses and doctor took their time to recognize my condition and explained my recovery process in terms that I could thoroughly understand. I highly recommend this location!chris ohara⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedJust visited First Choice Emergency Room with my very ill young son. We were able to be seen right away by a very pleasant and capable staff. My son was examined, diagnosed, and we were checked out with the necessary prescription very quickly. The facility was beautiful and the staff couldn’t have done a better job of caring for my little one. I highly recommend using this facility.Leslie K. Poteet⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedQuick, attentive, and professional service. Dr. Maul and his entire staff displayed extreme confidence, knowledgeable decision making, and sincere passion in getting the appropriate treatment started immediately for my condition. Even when my situation appeared to be taking a quick nosedive, they responded quickly, appropriately and as a cohesive team of professionals to ensure my safety and quick recovery. Thanks guys!! You get my highest recommendation and continued loyalty if I am ever in need of your service again.Amber J.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy 3-year-old daughter needed stitches on a Sunday evening. Nothing else was open, but First Choice Emergency Room was ready for us. We had an outstanding experience. We were taken right in to see the doctor – we didn’t even sit down in the waiting area. The doctor and nurses were immediately ready to help us. They assessed the situation, and discussed the options with me. We came to a decision and within 10 minutes of walking in the door she was receiving a local numbing agent to prepare for stitches. The care was outstanding — the nurses and doctor were obviously very experienced and extremely capable. They were caring, considerate, and very personable. Thank you for making an unpleasant life event (an injured child) a good experience. First Choice Emergency Room will be my families first choice for emergency’s from now on.Kelly Townsend⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was amazed at the speed with which my son was treated! What a great team of people. From reception, to x-rays, to Dr. interaction and specialist referral….this was a great emergency room experience. I would highly recommend First Choice Emergency Room, though I hope to never have to show up again! Thank you, staff, for your attention to my son, your warmth and professionalism.Meghan Gould⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I used UCHealth ER around 10:30 at night. This was one of the only Urgent Care facilities that was open this late. Was greeted promptly and kindly. I didn’t feel rushed. I was listened to and taken good care of. I felt that the nurses and Dr. Maul were knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. I would definitely use this facility again.Timothy McPherson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy son had surgery on his leg, and by the next day was in a lot of pain because of swelling in the cast. We visited First Choice because it was right around the corner, but we didn’t have any frame of reference for what we found. This was simply the most pleasant trip to the emergency room we had ever experienced. (as strange as it sounds it is true) Our entire visit from check-in to discharge was under 2 hours. The facility is sparkling clean, and the staff were unbelievably courteous and professional. We had no wait, unlike the multi-hour ordeal we have come to expect from traditional Emergency Rooms. Our Nurse and Dr. were both very compassionate, and spent a lot of time explaining the procedures and the intended outcomes. I highly recommend First Choice…althea jordan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe staff was nice, friendly and very courteous from when you first walk in to when you leave the facility. My daughter did not have to wait. I completed the online arrival and as soon as we arrived they took her back to begin her examine. I really liked being able to go online and complete the appointment (on my way). The process had us in and out within about 35 minutes. No sitting and waiting in the examine room either. Paper work was quick and my daughter liked the idea that she did not have to explain her knee injury but only once(where as at most apt. you have to tell the story to each person that enter the room at different times). I would recommend the facility.Karen Theysohn⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe typically do not post, but I felt compelled to let all know of a great experience. On Halloween my son had an accident and tore up his knee. We thought of this place as we drive past it every so often. I have to tell all that from the time we walked through the doors to the time we left it was a great experience for not only us as parents, but most importantly, my son. The staff was courteous, polite and the service was quick. I would go back to this place without any doubt and recommend for all to check out in case there is ever an emergency.Brandon Kistler⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy wife was in a bicycle accident and had a big gash in her head, we remembered there was an emergency place up the road so immediately drove there. Instantly greeted by Taylor who was very kind and got us in the back to see the Dr. They got my wife all checked out and Dr. Angelidis and the RN Bob was amazing. Even though she was scared and bloody they were very kind and comforting making her feel much better with the situation. They had the X-rays checked out and stitched her up making us feel more than comfortable. Hopefully we don’t have any emergencies any time soon, but if we did I would not hesitate to go back to this place to be treated by their wonderful staff.Todd Cook⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedUsed their services while visiting from out of town. Staff was very responsive and quick to aid us. Friendly and professional. Facility seems well stocked to handle most needs. Staff could use a bit of a reminder on proper sterilization and handling. Cross contamination can be a serious health issue. Demand gloves and swabs be used in accordance to proper protocol.Kara Walton⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI went in on a Sunday night and had no wait. The doctor was in within a few minutes and explained realistic options of what would help me in my situation and what would be a waste of time and unnecessary radiation without him being a specialist. For my case, this was extremely appreciated because he explained his inexperience with my specific issues and told me I should let a specialist handle the imaging and he would help with pain till I can get to a specialist. I was very happy with the experience.Sean GilbreathBilled $1654.00 for 30 min visit, after leaving, nothing was resolved, addressed, or treated. Doc Todd Mc Arthur billed an additional $459.00 for his input, which included a referral to someone he knew (3 times, really), checking vitals, and 10 whole minutes of his time while walking out of the door while we where still asking questions! Brought our daughter in for a burst ear drum, never even looked in the other ear (infected too), sent us home w/ no drops, antibiotics, or any useful information. Infuriated with the bill for no actual treatment. Never where we told that it was an “emergency room”, or that they where out of network. Read the other reviews and avoid this place at all costs, go to a REAL emergency room! By the way Steve, go ahead and save it I don’t need your copy and paste response. If you really want to help quit raping your patients that come for help. Called to see if they would adjust bill…yeah right, enjoy your vacation homes Steve!Rob Clayton⭐️⭐️Ridiculous. Office visit in the middle of the night was fine, but wasted several hours running around the next day for a Rx that they assured me was called in. They went over pharmacy information several times, confirmed that they called in the “Script” and then sent me on my way. The next day I was told that they sent it to a different pharmacy (much further away), only to drive there and discover it was never called in!! Can’t wait to get the gargantuan bill when they cannot follow through on what they claimed to do.Richard Chichester⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMade our first visit recently and couldn’t be happier with the service. The entire staff was attentive and worked efficiently to address our issue. Came home tonight and found a thank you note for choosing them (hand signed by everyone who worked on our case.) Definitely will use this service in the future.Ginnette Ritz⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI came to the First Choice ER late on a Sunday night. All other choices were already closed. I had a cat scratch on my arm that was suddenly swelling and turning red. The staff took me back immediately and started an IV with antibiotics. I had to stay there for an hour to get the antibiotic in me but immediately felt much better. The doctor then gave me a prescription for two strong antibiotics. I did pay the fee of going to an emergency room but, at this point, would have paid that at any other Emergency Room in town also. I am pretty sure that I would not have received such quick and efficient care at a hospital er though. I also would not have received such care at an urgent care office had they been open. I greatly appreciate the care I received at First Choice ERLisa Brandman⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFirst Choice ER experience was great! I have never been in a situation where I needed ER service and hesitated as I have heard of long waits and hours upon hours of waiting to be seen. Upon arrival, I was immediately taken in. Staff was very friendly and personal. I felt that everyone truly cared and when I went for a follow up, I received the exact same treatment. Friendly, immediate service and happy staff. I would recommend this ER to everyone and would honestly prefer to go here than my GP….lol Thanks First Choice for a first time pleasant ER experience:)Elise Ash⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe are from out of state & my son required care for a baseball injury while playing in Colorado Springs. The staff was excellent! They were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I work in a healthcare field and would not hesitate to recommend this location for anyone in the Colorado Springs area.James Scott⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI visited your emergency room on 7 July 15 with what I later discovered was an acute appendicitis. The staff was great and although they didn’t carry my insurance offered to evaluate me anyway. Dr Maul kindly advised me to report to an ER for further evaluation without hesitation. He even offered to continue my care for free but I felt I needed to get under my network of providers. I had surgery later that evening. Everyone was kind and concerned and I will tell my friends about the positive experience I had there.Tammy Hernandez⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHonestly, they treated us so well!! Any time you have an emergency with a child, it is so scary. Everyone from the front desk to the Doctor showed compassion to us. Four members of our family have been treated by FC and while we hope to never return 🙂 we would if we had an emergency! We have never had anything but a good experience. Highly recommend.Cheryl OzunaI am a retired EMT and the first visit was with my daughter upon arrival I stated to the front desk admin that the visit was non emergent. My daughter is in sports and needed a Dr.’s clearance on a sprained ankle and we could not get her in with her regular physician. The care that was provided was good. One week later my husband had sinus infection and during holidays his job has a black out rule where they can not take time off. Upon arrival I explained this visit was also non emergent. Both visits were no more than 15 mins long simple Dr. check no procedure done. 3 weeks later a bill for 779.00 my daughter. 1500.00 my husband. Cost was never explained at check in. Non procedure visits should not cost this much and the price difference between the two visits doesn’t make sense either. I have called customer service 3 time and have not got through.J Anappi⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was in and out in 15 minutes and could not have had a better experience. There was no waiting. it was very clean and the nurse and doctor were attentive. I was visiting Colorado Springs for two weeks and had forgotten my meds. They filled my prescriptions and sent me on my way with a gift bag. When I recommended it to a local friend, she said they loved First Choice and it’s the only urgent care/emergency facility her family will use. Easy five stars.Diane Moller⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy Dad came in from Texas and he started feeling real bad. He had loss of breath and his chest hurt. Because of his age the wanted to make sure it was not just altitude. The doctor and staff were wonderful and so professional and knowledgeable.Michelle XedisThe cost of this facility is completely outrageous!! I went in in the middle of the night because I was having difficulty breathing. I was there approximately 1 1/2 hours and sent home with an inhaler. The facility cost by itself was over $4600. When I asked why it was so high, I was told the doctor had to read the results of the tests and “that’s just how we charge at an ER”. This bill didn’t even include the doctor’s portion! I expected the exam and tests costs to be higher, but the $4600 did not include any of those either. Those were individually charged as well. Then when I called to set up payment arrangements, I was told there was another bill pending for $2500 for the doctor. Overall for my 1 1/2 hour visit, the cost was over $8500. I have had surgery with general anesthetic and an overnight stay for the same price. I cannot understand how this company gets away with charges like that! I want everyone to know how ridiculous the charges are before they get blindsided with a completely absurd bill like I did.Claire Nichols⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I had a very good experience at First Choice Emergency Room. As soon as we got there we went straight back and had four people helping us. We were in and out of there in about 20 minutes. The people there were very nice and friendly. I would recommend First Choice Emergency Room to anyone.Kelsey Altmayer⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️In the middle of the night we were glad to find somewhere open and closer than the hospital! We were helped immediately which is key when you head to the emergency room, and the paperwork wasn’t overwhelming. The staff were very attentive and reassuring. The only inconvenience was repeating the same answers to each staff member who asked the same questions. Will be the new Go-to.Steve Prileszky⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedOur first experience and I had to take my mother. The staff was extremely professional and attentive to her every need. Second only to the exceptional care she received was the fact that it is almost literally around the corner from her home, making it extremely convenient and accessible for all our emergency needs. Thanks for coming to her neighborhood.Arienne Vanas⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis is our second visit to First Choice ER and we would not hesitate to use them again! The first time was for my 8 year old who we thought had broken her finger and the second time was to have my husband’s chest x-rayed for pneumonia on a Sunday night when he couldn’t breathe. The place is clean, quiet, very high-tech, the staff are friendly and attentive. They get you in and out quickly and efficiently and best of all it’s in the neighborhood! The service there is great, they even call to check on how you are doing the next day! I would highly recommend First Choice ER.Laura Wright⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI went in today not feeling well and it’s hard to smile when you don’t feel well. Not only was the staff super fast on treating me but I laughed multiple times during my visit. Dr Angelidis, Rn Bobby, rad tech John and patient access Taylor keep up the good work! It’s the experience that I had today with you all that makes the difference 🙂Hayden Fraser⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy wife hurt her hip and knee in a snowboard accident a few weeks ago and we rushed to First Choice Emergency Room… The staff were AMAZING.. They got her right into a room and within minutes was seen by a Doctor.. The entire staff looked after us so well from the minute we entered to to the time we left.. Would 100% recommend First Choice to anyone and everyone..Susan McCreedy⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Our experience was great. Went in on a weekend evening on more of an “urgent” issue but all Urgent Care clinics were closed. No wait and kind courteous staff. The ONLY issue is that they can only take certain insurance since they are a “free standing” ER. (not connected to a hospital) Don’t go if you have TriCare for one. They are not an authorized provider unfortunately. Otherwis
