UMass Memorial Medical Center Reviews

Before you go to UMass Memorial Medical Center, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Worcester emergency room think.

Jenny Velez⭐️⭐️As much as I like to praise good nurses and good staff because there are, there is still a number of horrible staff at this hospital. There is a very long wait for the emergency, and staff answering phones (like Cindy in the ER department) answers and talks to people extremely rude which is really mind blowing. Hospitals in different counties act more empathetic. it’s a beautiful campus but staff can be more kind, organized and empathic. Please you work in a hospital and not every patient is rude, violent or mean.Veronica Hernandez I am Veronica Hernandez mother of Luccas Manuel Rodriguez Hernandez, I was angry in the emergency room at UMASS Memorial with Luccas since it is congested and has difficulty breathing! We arrived at approximately 12am and our departure time was at 5:45 patiently we waited without problems because we understood that undressed of our concern he was well and quite stable. During the waiting process as a cover they take his vitals and ask us questions before Dr. on duty sees him. The nurse explained at the outset that there was only one Dr. on duty and we understood there was no problem. After several hours of waiting, Dr. apologizes for having waited so long and thanks for our patience (very kind gesture) but while everything is normal, Natasha Lee (PTA) comes with a girl with intense white hair and my baby is crying a lot because He did not feel well that they had to wake him up for the checkup and Natash Lee (PTA) was rude, throwing things away, making annoying gestures with his face and breathing annoyingly. I take the pulse while Luccas cried so he is going to get high and they notify him again and he is annoyed again to take the materials with an attitude and speak in a high tone and in a discriminating way. We are very sorry for this event but there were no apologies and we understand the pressure with which they can work or find at the time but I understand that each staff in the capital must be trained for different serious situations and not as serious as Luccas had. I wait for a response back since I will continue taking the necessary measures until they take any action with that person who lacks respect, empathy, education and lack of professionalism.Ronald Pena I honestly would rather die than have to go through 6 hours of waiting in the ER while being completely disregarded by the staff again. Honestly, awful experience. The staff should really be ashamed of themselves.Rob Campbell Waiting forever for my son to be seen for cranial facial. They changed everything around and now did audiology first with no follow up right after and now we are sitting here and they have no beds available. They claim them changing things would make it faster, I think not.Brenna Natali-Jones Went in for vertigo and extreme nausea. Fainted four times in the past week. Waited 5 hours and told the triage desk I needed to step out to make a call. Came back in for the nurses at the desk to remove my name off the wait list. Meanwhile the old nurse had a huge smirk on her face. Apparently you’re not allowed to leave the front door to make a 3 minute call. The staff if incredibly unprofessional and truly awful towards patients. This hospital is a joke, never come here.David Shreeve Third-world check-in and people management. Unacceptable.Adriana Marques You go to the emergency to get better to ended up leaving after 9 hours feeling like tou are nothing and a little more. When the doctor finally come to see me she didn’t seemed to care or listen to what I was telling her about my symptoms. She rushed a quick check up and said it was just anxiety no test , nothing. After she left I when over to see if she could refill my medication or give me a few until I see my primary she said I already said no I’m busy if you want to wait me finish this. I did waited and waited standing there at the wall and nothing until I told her hey you have been treating me like a was a dog and that is humiliating she yelled called the police and the police came although I wasn’t yelling or near her I was already leaving. The two police officers talked to me and seemed very sad that I was going through what just happened they both were actually really nice to me. I left feeling very depressed and worse than I went in forKate Burton The worst staff and care. Rude incompetent nurses and techs who are more concerned about their social lives and eating then they are about their patients. The wait is absolutely horrendous and they’re lucky if they can even keep track of their patients. You go for a scan and come back to find you’ve been moved to the hall and never thought about again. The only light at the end of this tunnel is their charge nurse. Go elsewhere.B4n4n4CLIPmonk XboxLive Its surprising to know your er nurses are certified but cant properly care for a post op transplant patient , kidney specialist comes and says drink lots of fluid ,but the people in the er don’t ask or offer, when asked anything “ill find out” is the only response you’ll get for about 4-5 hours no fluids for 11 hours but my nurse is surprised I’m not putting out more urine, your nurse will leave for shift change regardless of your condition without passing anything on to the next one. Horrible! And to think that other sections of the hospital run way betterSriram Long wait in the ER. Agree with recent comments. It takes a couple of hours to treat young kids. Hospital management should come up with an SLA for treatmentsKanaya Taylor I’m 5 weeks pregnant and been having very bad stomach pains, I went there today at 5pm and I’m now just leaving 6 hours later while nurses are standing around doing nothing and some guy kept coming out checking everyone’s blood pressure every 5 mins, my fiancé told the doctors I was experiencing terrible pains and they could careless people that came after us went before me and I will NEVER go back here again. I’m disgusted with everyone that works there.Ember Glo The Undead Vampyress Bathroom floor was soaked in urine. Informed staff who refused to call a custodian because they were busy. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I was lied about and told I was trespassing and that I had slept at the hospital last night. They took all of my items for self-defense. Refused to return them. Returned another day for a UTI and was immediately stopped and very aggressively told I was trespassing again. I responded that I was told the last time that I would be able to use ER services. Went directly there did not stop. $40–50 of personal property not returned. Your tax dollars at work.Jason O The worst ER in the Worcester Area. They have no compassion for the patients. Unless you drop on the floor dead they show no sense of urgency to care for ANYONE! 6 hour wait time and still have not been taken back to a room. Came in with extreme back/abdominal pain and chest pain. Staff is rude and nobody checks you in until they are good and ready, that is after you wait in line to get through the security checkpoint, then wait for the nurse at the desk to get off of her phone to check you in. Unreal!!Ariel Lyons Worst experience ever! Went to redi med urgent care in Auburn for a circulation issue with my Daughter after she fractured her wrist the night before, urgent care sent us to lake ave ER even they were hesitant to send me there but said they have pediatrics and that they would call them to let them know we are on our way! We get to umass lake ave ER and after I told them urgent care called to say we were coming they knew who we were right away. The triage nurse also agreed she should be seen ASAP and that he would try to get her back there right away. We then waited over 3 hours before I simply asked if she could at least have some pain relief I shouldn’t have even waited that long but I did because I saw how busy it was. They told me to wait on the tylenol because she would be seen shortly. We waited again for another hour until I saw the triage nurse that triaged her and said that we were going to leave because it didn’t seem to be a big concern to them anymore, he then wouldn’t let me leave with her and told me I can’t leave because she needs to be seen after this he suddenly could get us back there for her to be seen. The nurse we had was great but Dr. Jeremy Chaillet is a joke he had 0 bed side manners and apparently can’t properly read x rays and laughed at us and told us she had a sprain and to go home. However since then we have had THREE other doctors confirm she does have a fracture!!! I am in the process of filing a complaint! The registration lady’s and triage nurses are unprofessional and talk about everyone that walks in there and 0 patient confidentiality!Robin Holmes⭐️⭐️My mom was rushed to umass (lake ave) this morning. The doctors on her case has been amazing and really kept the family up to date! However, the nursing staff need to learn how to communicate with families. Both my daughter and I have been calling to get an update on my mom, who had a stroke and had emergency surgery. First we get told they dont know where she is! How the hell dobu not know where a patient is first of all?! Second, again we tried for an update since the 1st time was useless, and we got told we are too busy! U can take a few minutes to talk to family asking for an update on their family member. Same run a round every time and it’s really unnecessary and unprofessional in my opinion. I will fight for my mom just like his had to with my dad over the past few months. Maybe the hospital should provide a communication class for nurses. People want to know about the family and I am in a tough situation as I need to be home with my dad who cant be left alone and I cant be up at the hospital with my mom as much as I want to. Show some compassion for family members. Enough with the damn excuses and fill family in. If you ask me, the nurses jus ty dont care and just want the pay..from what I have seen over the past year there.Matt Taylor The nurses and support staff were very good and should be commended for their work. The Doctors were unempathic, pretentious and clearly more concerned about liability laws than healing the sick. You’d be better off going to Tufts animal hospital than this dump.Leslie Rivera Sincerely this hospital is going from bad to worse I had to wait an hour just to register while the nurse what they did was talk to each other I also came with my daughter and the children’s area had the TV off all the equipment for them to entertain they should not be more organized and do their job as they respond I understand that there may be many people sick but I also understand that if they try harder it would be betterR Ferro If I could rate it lower would Thau make you wait forever and refuse to communicate Not an ounce of compassion If this is the standard for the future of healthcare we should all be very afraid.Rob D⭐️⭐️⭐️The parking in the front is a public health hazard. The valet business that operates here seems to have free reign with parking visitors vehicles, and they Park those vehicles right in front of the main ER entrance every day. Any other hospital has an open area for people coming into the ER, and doesn’t jam up one of the most important entrances of the hospital! I feel bad for people with medical emergencies coming in to be seen because the waiting line sometimes extends down to the main road. Please move the valet cars out of the ER area!Deborah Vo Went to the ER last night. Waited in the lobby for an hour thinking I might have appendicitis. Got seen by a doctor half hour after being sent to a room. From there things deteriorated. I wanted a heating pad or a hot pack. They gave me a warm blanket instead it provided some relief to the pain, but I would have preferred it hotter. I had four people complain to me about my refusing pain meds. I had a physician’s assistant come in telling me that the doctor was too busy to get the complete story of what happened. Any doctor that is too busy to spend time asking pertinent questions (some of which no one asked and I found out after doing some research the next day), means they were severly understaffed. I put on the call bell twice and was ignored both times. It went over five minutes before getting any kind of response. It was good that I wasn’t having a life or death situation, because I could have died from being neglected. I ended up waiting three hours for an ultrasound to determine if I was in a dangerous situation. I had a doctor supervisor that didn’t even bother to look at my chart before talking to me. I ended up waiting over three hours before getting an ultrasound to determine how serious my situation was. After the shift changed the new nurse didn’t bother introducing herself to me. When it came time to be discharged, the IV was literally yanked out in the most painful way possible. I ended up leaving the hospital without any idea of what was causing my symptoms. If you go the hospital – be prepared to wait even if you are having a potential life/death situation. Also be prepared to be ignored and turned into a drug addict because all they care about is pumping you full of drugs to make it look like they did something.Andrew Dupuis⭐️⭐️⭐️Mother went into the er at 130 am for a blockage in her kidney had 6-8 people in the. mwaiting room. They said they had no open beds and we waited over 3 hours before being seen. When we got into the actual er I counted 8 open beds and that was only on half the er. 8 open beds and that’s just counting on our side. Mean while they had multiple people in the waiting room suffering 1 lady was on the floor in excruciating pain screaming and crying. Only reason I’m giving 3 stars is based on the doctor’s ability to figure out the problem in a timely manner from the time we got in. The waiting also caused an infection from the backup. Awful triage nurse no heart or compassion for people told us when we asked how much longer after 2 hours of waiting withn noone from the er being brought in the lady says youll be here for hours.Adam Kareem Worst emergency room I’ve ever been in. Extremely disorganized, chaotic and they pick and choose who they want to see first. If your having an actual emergency go to St. Vincent’s, this place is a disgrace .Ava .21 This place is bad. The staff at the desks are rude. I heard ppl wait her with THEIR SICK LOVED ONE FOR OVER SIX HOURS! This is straights facts cuz I remember going there with my brother at 8 and waiting for a straight 4 hours. We had to leave cuz the staff said that all the rooms were full and it would be hours b4 they will see him since other people were in front of us. This was in March of 2019. DO NOT GO HERE!!! *Warning* All the bad reviews of the ER are true. They’re also a limited amount of doctors there too. 3 REASONS NOT TO GO HERE!!! -Limited amount of doctors -the wait -rude staffOTF_fadijack⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAmazing doctor my leg almost got cut off but the saved it and the wait is not long at all I actually be going there since 2009 I got on the newsLuis Marrero For a hospital that exalts itself on great service and attention to patients, it is definitely less than a 1 star!!! UMass you are a disgrace to your average patient. You may thrill your reputation in stating how many breakthroughs or how much research you do, but let me tell you that your bedside mamner is horrendous! Your lack of empathy for those waiting because they are not “too” sick is ridiculous and demeaning especially when your front desk nurses are eating at their desks and chatting away with the Securitas “Protection” Company. Very sad!Inna Chernyakova My last name is Semenov. I had, no I did’t even have service in Umass ER. I left. I had severe work related accident. For ER employees I was nobody. They looked through me, didn’t even examen my wound. But a police officer in sun glasses was watching me non-stop. I felt myself like a criminal. Horrible experience.Julian Ankrah Worst ER experience!!! How is it an “emergency” department if you have to wait for 6 to 8+ hours to be seen?? Get more beds if you don’t have enough! RIDICULOUS! Shame ….Ge Gomes No I came 4:30 pm today and it’s 8:00 pm and I still waiting to see the doctor I ask the desk how long will take they told me the wait time today is 8:00 hr that is ridiculousMary Boucher⭐️⭐️Waited 9:00 hours in the emergency room for blood results. The worse service I’ve ever seen. People sitting around in pain all day waiting to get serviced. Hours for them to call on names. Like I said the worse service I’ve ever seen.Dexter WhyIsALastNameRequired⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe staff is really quick and attentive. I’ve only been to the ER a couple times, but this has been the best experience I’ve had at one. Or at least, the best experience you can have in an emergency roomKatherine Fajardo First time in a worcester hospital ever and I will never ever go back. I brought my daughter because she was having a hard time breathing due to a nasty cold and staff heard how she was breathing but yet told me there were 2 other adults in front of her so she wouldn’t be seen for an additional hour. I waited an hour for them to tell me the same thing. Worst experience. Have had better service in south America hospitals! Had to drive an hour to get to Boston childrens Hospital in the rain! The fact that this hospital has metal detectors is scary. NEVER again!Susan Karalekas⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI brought my 93-year old father to the ER and could not have received better care anywhere! My father had been experiencing severe stomach cramps on a Saturday morning so I first brought him to a walk-in Urgent Care center around noontime. During the exam, the doctor detected a heart murmur and recommended that we go to the ER. In the ER at 55 Lake Avenue, my father was seen immediately and given an EKG. The ER was extremely busy, but my father was given a small, private room, where he was monitored carefully and given further tests. I was there for several hours, during which time nurses and doctors periodically came in for tests, treatment, and consultation. It was decided to admit my father to the hospital. I cannot say enough positive things about the entire ER staff, from the moment we arrived, when the valet parking attendant gave us a wheelchair to use, to all the medical staff. Everyone was professional, competent, and compassionate. One nurse, Deb (whom I believe was the head nurse) was exceptionally attentive and caring.Jill Roux Absolutely horrible. 6 hours of waiting and still not been seen.Amy Sullivan Worst experience I’ve ever had in an E.R !!!! My 11 year old daughter was brought in by ambulance after having a seizure/fainting (still don’t know) in a store . She got to the E.R. at 5:40 and was told she couldn’t have anything to eat or drink until after she saw the doctor. Even though they felt her episode was due to dehydration she didn’t receive an I.V. at all! An EKG and urinalisis were the only tests done. They literally neglected my daughter denying her food and drink. Finally, after waiting until 9:15 that night I asked a nurse if she could have a banana . A doctor entered shortly after not even knowing she had had a urine test, did not tell us any results and dismissed her as having fainted bc of not eating or drinking!!! I will be reporting them to the medical board!!!Lynn Vachon My son would still be alive today if the had intiated a mental health eval after he overdosed 3× in 24 hours…..IHe had been clean over a year, no tolerance and only 80% oxygen the let him go, refused to send clinician despite my instance as his next of kun and he had clear past history of SI and SA. I am a social worker and know the section 12 law almost by heart…. it was their duty to eval due to his severe risk of harm to self. Asked doc got AT LEAST a script for more narcan je was a student I think and sent oral naloxone of narcan. Pharmacist couldn’t reach anyone to fix it so they sent him and I home with nothing then my ability to do CPR. He died in front of my eyes the next morning after i could get to court for a section 35. Beyond infuriated!Dennis Bulter Worst emergency room I’m making this comment so you ignorants can do something to solve this problem waitin time is 6 to 7 hours damn you do something or tell others so they can use the precautions and don’t come to this hospitalCariad Jospeh Insane waiting time and the waiting room was maybe 20-30% full from 7:30pm to now (still waiting at 1:30am). We would have just left and waited to see a specialist in the morning but they couldn’t tell us what would happen with billing.David Thompson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe rest UMass is awful, but the emergency room is fantastic. We brought our 2 year old daughter here recently, with a dog bite to her face. They really took care of us, and quickly too. I will say that outside of the ER, UMass uses unscrupulous billing practices, and gives you the run around every chance they can. I fought with them for 6 months about forcing me into a procedure, which them cost me hundreds of dollars. Only after sending them a legal notice that I was going to file in court, did they suddenly decide to “waive” the charges.Jason Hintlian Forced to wait over an hour plus every time my son has a check up for his leg that he broke. Their time management skills are terrible. They know you have no other options and they clearly take advantage. Update: back again for another hour plus wait to see the doctor. The personal are nice but the wait is ridiculous. I’m downgrading to 1 star from 3.Joseleen Valentin I was in the emergency room for 16 hours to be seen for 5 minutes and told that my issues were “probably this”. No tests. No nothing. And to follow up with my doctor. It was a joke. The waiting room was full of people meanwhile you go to the examining room and see people joking, hanging out, leisuring around, not doing their jobs. The doctors on 1/10/2017-1/11/2018 are absolutey terrible. Patient confidentiality doesn’t exist. I know someone working there that day/night/morning while I was there that knew I was there for 16 hours and knew why I was being seen yet had nothing to do with examining/documenting anything about me. Fire them all.David Jenkins This hospital has to be one of the worst hospitals I have ever dealt with, and I go to the VA for my personal health issues. We’ve lived in Mass for about 4 years now and everytime I take one of my children to the ER for a afterwork emergency IE. High fevers and other issues, I’m left waiting for about 4 hours before they even get looked at. Yesterday my 1 year old had a 105F temp. We rushed her there at 5:00pm and she wasn’t even seen until 8:30pm. On top of that a CNA that works there brought her 5 year old son with a bruised chin a half hour after we got there and was seen right away. By the time we were discharged from the ER it was 10:05pm. This is down right disturbing the medical staff are unprofessional and complacent.we don’t go to St. V’s for one we aren’t Catholic and two their pediatrics is minimal to say the least. I will not be taking my family back to this garbage of a hospital for lack of better terms. Save your self some time and go to the Milford Hospital.A. Colizza⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was seen promptly and triaged appropriately. The staff was friendly, attentive and reassuring.Xf dj AwfulMonu Navdeep Don’t ever come here for ER they take 5-6 hours to just come to check up go somewhere else but don’t come to umassMay de Almeida This hospital is a disgrace. They hire four security guards to stand in the ED and do nothing while people wait over 6 hours and counting for a possible perforated intestine. Go to St Vincent’sLondon Vice Security going through the security detector are rude especially the heavy set Spanish woman she stopped someone from being seen very ignorant and hostileNS Terrible hospital. I tore my acl and they had me wait 4 hours in the waiting room before getting xrays… do not come here!!Patrick Boyle⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedTimely appointments, and great staffBathory Blaze 6 hours waiting. was never seen by a doctor.Lydia Vera Have the worse headache ever been waiting 5 hours no one seen me at all this is the worse hospital ever don’t come here they won’t help you go to Belmont St there betterNazir Ahmed The worst emergency place, I ever seen My wife waited for 6 hours, and she was crying from her back pain.Stacie Sabo Horrible!Dante Ferraro Mortimer sucks don’t see him everSarah Alnahas (Translated by Google) Worst ER !!!
