Before you go to University Hospital, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Newark emergency room think.
W PPatients who are given bad service need to go to another hospital, get a proper diagnosis, obtain your medical records, then SUE this hospital for medical negligence or malpractice. The bad ratings are true. I visited the ER and the staff is very unprofessional and hate their job. There were constant complaining from ER staff about having too many patients and praying for a day off of work. It’s an emergency room, so what do they think is going to happen? Obviously, they are not built for that type of work and need to be terminated or resign and find another job if working is so bad. Workers who constantly complain, yet won’t do anything to change their outcome are either crazy or stuck with their job because other companies don’t want them. There are also entirely too many medical students using patients as guinea pigs and from what I’m guessing new doctors who are so lost that they don’t even know how to put on a medical mask. To the doctors, if you don’t have the equipment to support patients then please send patients to another facility that can, instead of ignoring it and sending patients home. This will be the reason patients will win lawsuits. Also, please don’t guess a diagnosis because you’re the reason people use Dr. Google to literally find the same diagnosis online. Life isn’t that cookie-cutter. If you are a patient and need Charity Care, please keep reminding the workers that you need an application. The workers who walk around for signatures will remember to get your signature, but will act like they forgot to give you a Charity Care application. At the end of the day, everyone need to find a great PCP and a network of great medical specialists, because these hospitals don’t really care about you. You’re only another person they can bill.Lorena D.lorenzo⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI have been to this hospital recently, ER and surgery and I have to say that I have never had a better service. Everyone was really polite and very friendly. I was really impressed by the professionality and speed. Five stars because they deserve it! Thank You!!AshleyyyI was there with my mother since 11pm yesterday and my mother is yelling crying in pain and nobody came to see her until She cried for help literally in tears .Not only that the doctor kept on disappearing on my mother when my mother needed something for the pain or when she cried for help . She asked for pain meds at least 6 times and they still haven’t given her anything. They are unorganized not only that their staff is so rude took her a whole 5 hours to get her a room and I hear one of the night shift nurses huff and say “oh I’m not taking care of her” with a stank attitude why do y’all hire people with such attitude for your patience y’all need to do better !!!!Vincent Vaz⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE VASCULAR LAB. I WAS ATTENDED BY NADIA MUSTAFA LAB TECHNICIAN. SHE WAS WONDERFUL CARING AND VERY FRIENDLY. UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL SHOULD BE PROUD TO HAVE NADIA MUSTAFA AS THEY EMPLOYEE!!Life As Des And JayOne of the nurses argued with my family members and called security on them to get them removed she also wanted to fight and cursed at them. I was never treated after that happened they switched my nurse and gave me my discharge papers with a prescription for motrin. I was never treated they just took my vitals never again I will sue university so badly.GAEL SANI witness discrimination to other in my self and also lack of Lack of professionalism that leads to a lack of commitment, lack of responsibility, lack of respect to Older patient, unethical place. Front desk on the afternoon staff They take there sweet time while they chatting on the phone, dancing laughing about the patients This type of employees will not be loyal to the company there just there for the pay check not to help it was sad and upsetting witness different type discrimination EREvelyn MahdaviWorst hospital and terrible treatment. My husband has been here since Dec 18 when they brought him here for being struck by a car. It’s almost Christmas and the tests cannot be done, all I hear is excuses. He has a neck fracture, a wrist fracture and many his ear is getting infected since it was surgically stitched. I contact departments and they send me to another person. If I could transfer him to another hospital I would.jfj138⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The only reason I rated 4 stars because this hospital is always too many people waiting for help or get treated, waiting is pain for all, otherwise I got no complain for their transplant team, they saved my life 8 years ago. Dr. A. Fisher, Dr. A. Torre, Dr. Koneru. Thank you again !!!Massiel TBy far the most unorganized ED department…How do you send someome to “fast track” for dental emergency just to wait 3 hours to be told that there are 10 more people ahead and it may take another 3 hours. Decided to leave as Im walking out I ask security if theres another way to be seen by a dental person Pointed me to the Oral Maxillofacial surgery place where I could be treated. Staff is very rude in the fast track green and very slow needs more organizational changes.Kiana LomaxI’ve been to this hospital for the first time right now, and it has no circulation in the Fast track (green strip), the people in here were constantly complaining a loud about the bad service they have been giving. There are three people: in which it is 6:30pm as of now, one been here since 1pm she stated, a lady on her way out asked another patient why is she here still and they both have been here since 3:05pm. The last lady look as if she has been sleep since I got in here at exactly 6pm.Priya PalveThey don’t even deserve 1 star. I went to emergency care 2 times during last week. During my first visit they told me I just have food poisoning so I am getting cramps in stomach & in back. On the 2nd day, I had bleeding and my situation was worst so again I went back to ER, I waited more than 3 hrs in the pain to see the doctor. The AC in the room was freezing cold. I was feeling like ice cream. At last after 1 hrs wait the doctor showed up and she asked me some questions and disappeared. After waiting for 1:30 hrs I asked representative about the doctor she said we just have 1 doctor for 14 rooms(Is it my fault? I am already paying for it, right?).Again after waiting for hour, i went to representative and told her I want to go back home. Then she told me that doctor asked about pelvic test (if she knew it earlier then why didn’t she informed me?).After pelvic test, doctor asked me for ultrasounds so i went for the test & finally she said my reports are normal, I just have urine infection( It took around more than 6 hours for this report). In between when I asked for food the nurse asked me to go to nurse counter(They are disorganized). I was hungry so I went to nurse counter for food and they were not ready to give and were making fun out of me as well as they commented like this girl has everything normal then why they did ultrasounds (If it is internal body pain how can they comment like this?) . Its being 2 weeks now I still have pain, I am unable to walk,i feel dizzy & weak so I went to MD Gynecologist. I had given her my reports from ER, When she did ultrasounds again, she found out something fishy. She said the reports from ER are completely different. I have cyst infection on my right ovary and it is of 5 cm. This careless ER people, I don’t know what they did. They didn’t even gave me proper treatment. #Pathetic ManagementJessie RoselleMy mother was just released. She couldn’t speak wet herself and vomited. On herself and yesterday she was speaking gibberish and no one would tell us what’s going on. The nurses are mean the doctors don’t care. It should be shut down and it’s dirty tooangie hungriaThe worst hospital I’ve seen in my life. I will never go back.Jewel VassellI honestly wish i can rate this hospital 0 stars. I sat in the ER for 5hrs with sharp chest pains and shortness of breath. The hospital is so dirty and stink it’s uncomfortable just sitting there waiting. The staff is so unprofessional you can’t ask no one for information because they are so clueless.Desiree MeltonThe emergency room ( Fast track ) is really considered ” slow track” the nurses and doctors don’t care how slow they move. You will wait about 4 hours to be seen. The employees talk more than they work. I would not recommend this hospital to any patient in pain. This hospital is also ghetto. They do not have any good customer service care.Amirsaba Motamedi⭐️⭐️Review on surgery not ER. My brother had a surgery here. The check in was in the yellow zone, after the surgery he was taken to recovery, and then off to blue zone. The hospital was not that clean or hygienic at all!! Procedure was done to perfection though thanks to his Surgeon, Dr. Aziz, who is hands down the best in the state. The staff ,however, was a mix of both ends. Patricia was his nurse in the blue zone who did an outstanding job. She was kind, caring, and helpful. People like her make us respect nurses for their passion for their profession. Thais Chen, on the contrary, was a nurse in the recovery section who was notably impolite, forgetful, and careless. My brother was in pain for a while after the surgery, and after calling places, Mrs. attitude realized she had forgotten about his painkillers! She also kept looking at us and laughing while talking to her co-workers in a giggly manner. I do not believe there is anything funny about doing your job so badly, but I was really wondering if she was abusing drugs or she was just not professional. Her attitude also bothered us, but the nurses on the floor were so kind that we totally forgot about her. The establishment is freezing cold, so be prepared to come on with jackets in the middle of Summer.Benji BrillzWorst hospital in newjersey so I’m organized and not enough doctors or nurses very slow and in professionalAli Shalabyavoid this hospital at all costs, horrible service emergeny room wait can be more than 6 hours, i didn’t receive any treatment and paid 1300$! it’s a scam.Sammy AlvarezI could get shot across the street and I’d still ask for the ambulance to bring me to the 2nd nearest hospital. The place is not the cleanest by far, the staff isn’t the friendliest by far, and the overall care and service is terrible… and i say terrible because im not sure if i can curse on this or not… lolFlavio Paterno⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExcellent doctors, nurses, and staff provide a valuable and outstanding service to the City of Newark and the State of New Jersey!Yvette RoigNot after the experience our family has had since Tuesday. Er dr started digoist and told us what there were going to do no after we left Tuesday nite o cardio Dr or kiniennyVictoria ColeMy friend went to the ER with chest pains and waited 7.5 hours in the waiting room. After 7.5 hours without seeing a doctor, she left and was seen immediately at another hospital. Turns out she had a heart attack. You should be ashamed of the way you care for patients. Besides not properly triaging or giving proper care, you are rude, disrespectful, and should find another job as it is clear you have forgotten what your job responsibilities are and that your duty is to help, not hurt. Shame on you. Expect a formal complaint.BILU.The worst hospital ever. My mother was treating for cancer in there and the way they treated her was beyond unacceptable . Staff is extremely rude and the oncologist in charge was extremely careless and rude and no bed side manner what so ever !!! This place does not deserve not even 1 star.Sandy HenryThis place has s worst if you feel you are dying go to dead house because you will die if you go there. I gave only a star because I had to give one to write the reviewCharles DavisThis hospital is the worst of all in Newark new Jersey I came in at 5pm and left at 2 o’clock in the morning AM. I had to take no in 3 different times. They lost my urine 3 times They just didn’t know where it was at. The staff here is the worst people I ever met and very disrespectful.Tata moralesWorse day ever came with pian left even worseBriana RamirezLiterally the worst hospital i have ever been in..ive been here for over a month and now have 3 warrants and a violation because for some reason a month isnt long enough for the case workers to do their jobs..the service here is horrible you will be lucky to get a nurse in your room in 45 minutes after you hit the nurse bell..there is barely anyone on the floor the drs here are very uncaring..just a horrible hospital period!Eva GidovaWorst hospital I ever went to. I went there with pain waited for hours and left with same pain no medications and be with pain until next morning.Sabrina Marie Leff⭐️⭐️⭐️My uncle was in a very bad car accident last month. He spent 28 days in the hospital. The SICU team was AMAZING!!!! The nicest nurses ever and saved his life! After being in SICU for about two weeks he was transferred to code blue on the same floor.. absolutely horrible nurses. He would click the button for the nurse and they wouldn’t show up for hours, also gave him a hard time because he had an accident when he was sleeping. Also, told him they only had 1 blanket on the floor.. he was laying down freezing for 4 hrs until a nurse finally came in and gave him one. I believe the day nurses but on a front to be nice because families are there during the day but at night they do not care. Again, we could not thank the SICU nurses enough! It is crazy what walking down the hall could do, complete night and day.Camila rodrigues⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI was always very well attended by my gynecologist and his team. I won 1 child at this hospital and the second child is on his way and I will also win at this hospitalLidia ValenteThis hospital is not even a shadow of it was The answer machines are all over the place and when finally you get somebody to talk with ,they don’t know anything I was transfer to diferente people more than 100 times two weeks ago and the same thing today This is a shame for us living in this are and if my doctor wasn’t so good I would be out there long time ago Thank doctor Cretan Malik I’m still thereDank MemesI would rate 0 stars if possible but I can’t. I went to the hospital in an ambulance and then when i got the bill I had bs charges that one of the nurses said was only 3 dollars cause of my insurance turned out to be 560 dollars and with nearly no treatment other than slide my shoulder back in place they did nothing to help me and in total my bill came to be 4.6k. Please don’t come to this wretched hospital just a money trap waiting for you to stumble on it.Dayana ColonI’m from the state of Texas, while visiting a family member my newborn had an accident. Lord this people in here is the worst people I ever meet. They discharged my son with 101.1 fever and make it see like he had nothing . They poke my son 9 times and couldn’t find his Iv : I’m so sad .Maria OrtizI wish i can give 0. The staff is so rude. No body know whats going on with patientes. You ask to talk to the dr and they dont even kbow what the doctor is. The nurses are rude. They think they treated animals. I think the atention in a veterinarian hospital is a lot better than thisJohanna SaavedraAbsolutely horrible! The surgeons were amazing, the hospital is horrible. The nurses are rude, impatient, and, sometimes, downright nasty. The floor my father was placed it was dirty!Jolina Pascal⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedLast time I was there the wait was a little long but I was in and out when I see the doctorIris WeesbeyondOne of the most unprofessional dirty emergency rooms ever. i had to go there because my doctor works out of that hospital went in at 10pm i finally left at 5 am without being seen. BTW i was sent there by my dr because I had high blood pressure and needed to be admitted the worst filthy pee smelling hospital ever. I went to hackensack and was seen in an hour admitted into hospital! DO NOT GO THERE GHETTO FILTH!K CWORST hospital ever!! I was there the end of January with my boyfriend for an emergency he had. We got there at 9am Monday, they are so disorganized. He was in a bed laying right next to the nurses station where everyone could see you and you could see who is walking in and out, we were not even in one of the rooms where you have some type of privacy. The hospital was super packed, first the ER doctor comes in and introduces himself, ask what was going on? 1 minute after we started a conversation with by like 11:30a-12PM he gets an emergency phone call for trauma. Hours later he comes and apologizes he tells us he wants a CT scan etc, than Dr. Shapiro’s assistant comes in checks out and tells us we don’t need the scan meanwhile the other doctor said we do. So, decide he needs the scan or no? He goes get scan done like 5-6 hours later, more blood work etc. At this time I’m tired, hungry and losing my patience! ANOTHER female doctor comes in, explains to us what was going which we already new, and tells us he is getting discharged. We come back to where he was laying down in the hallway and his nurse comes in to tell us she needs more blood. I was like why we are getting discharged? she is like that’s not on the computer. So, to make this story kinda of short, we NEVER got discharged they told us he needed to be admitted by 11PM. At 3am is when they finally!!! admit him and took him up into a room and same thing happen from Monday to Wed that we were there, every damn doctor, nurse or doctors assistant will come with different stories one will say you discharged and the other said, you still need to stay in. Worst experience ever!! If i could give it a 0 star i would. Don’t go there!Charles Santiagolong wait emergency waithing room 5 to 10 hrs or more to be call is ridiculos dont go to this hospital waste of time the people is also very rudeS. Scarborois there a negative 1 star or no ?, this hospital and it’s workers should be dismissed completely !, if you don’t have someone to speak up for you or demand something and put their foot down your family member or friend will remain in pain if not die, if you can help DON’T GO HERE !jefrin gomez9 hours is insane this the worse hospital almost diejulio moranIf you love to be in pain, this is the perfect place.Faizan OsmaniWorst place to in ER better stay homeNoryor Omatseyethis hospital is a joke & should be investigated, I was in the ER for 8hrs & no show, the staff also was rude…I left with pains to go to another hospital…DO NOT GO HERENathalia Alcantara NatyThey made me and my mom wait for more than 10 HOURS to see the doctor and my mom was feeling a lot of pain. HORRIBLE! WORST EMERGENCY ROOM!!!!Bryant PieceI had a family member there the garage haven’t been emptied for days bats or fleas were flying around nurses are nasty I heard people were hooked up to life supported machines expecting to pass machines were turned off I guess to speed up the process worst place in the world no starsManolo GarayWorst experience ever. I took my uncle to this ER and after 5 hours waiting nobody called us or checked if he needed something. We finally left because they did nothing for him. The worst ER in NJ.Katelyn BaumbachAWFUL hospital. I would strongly advise anyone to look into going to a different hospital. Even if your surgeon is only affiliated here, seriously, pick a different surgeon. It is absolutely not worth risking the inevitable complications you will have from the horrendous “aftercare” or lack there of. My boyfriend had a major surgery there (only because his surgeon is affiliated with this hospital) and the recovery room is a damn circus. Nurses literally yelling across the room to each other, NO ONE checking on him, and he’s supposed to be checked every hour. He didn’t receive his pain meds for at least 7 hours and ONLY got them because we asked one of the nurses. Thank goodness she happened to be wonderful, but the neglect of the patients there is absolutely disgusting. It was also super unsanitary in the entire hospital, no one appeared to be concerned with keeping things clean and sterile. The majority of the hospital staff is unwelcoming, and no one has a smile. The hospital itself doesn’t seem clean at all. I would give this hospital no stars if I could.DEIRDRE DINEENMy boyfriend suffered a head injury and became confused and dazed. He was sent to UMDNJ and waited almost three hours for a CT Scan to be done. No one came and checked on him in the three hours we were here. No one offered a chair had to stand.Milla SchneiderIt was the worst experience I ever had in regards of hospital/medical service. I’m not from the area. I was sent to the Emergency Room from an Urgent Care Clinic. In the hospital, I had to wait for hours and hours – UNATTENDED most of the time. The service was very precarious, most the staff was rude and couldn’t care any less about doing their job. Even though I have insurance, the bill was extraordinarily high. Not surprisingly, most of the amont in the bill was due to the “use of the emergency room” – remember, they made me wait for a long time. I tried to review my bill, only to hear that they cannot do anything since I accepted to receive the service – what choice did I have in that anyways? I also tried applying for financial assistance from the hospital. That also did not work, since they gave me the wrong information on what documents to bring and I lost an entire day of work and the $50.00 cost of the round trip to Newark (you can only apply in person and are not allowed to send documents online). I simply gave up and will pay the full ammount. Also considering suing the institution. As a student who was very excited about the nonprofit sector, I am disappointed with the University Hospital’s total disrespect to its beautiful mission. AVOID THIS INSTITUTION AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.devi L.Don’t go here! My dad was send here for trauma. First red flag. He he threw up from the medicine in the trauma room and the nurse literally told me she don’t do throw up it makes her throw up. We had to change his gown and sheets and clean him up so he doesn’t inhale his puke. Second red flag. When he was sent up to a room they sent him to the wrong room. Third red flag. He had an ivy bag and it wasn’t on a pole. It was resting on his bed when he finally got to the right room for over three hours. Fourth red flag. He needed a nurse and called for one multiple times for assistance to the bathroom. They NEVER showed up! He slept in his urine and pain from 9pm- 11am! This hospital is also filthy. Bathrooms are so dirty. Nurses drop things and pick it up to reuse them.Samantha EscobedoMe and my father went to the emergency center for his eyes because his eyes were blurred. I was trying to speak to one of the ladies at the desk and she ignored me because she was having a conversation. Then I was shown to my room and a nurse came in asking questions with an attitude and was very rude. I didn’t get her name but she was brown skin with freckles and black hair. We arrived at the hospital at 11am and were discharged at 4, the majority of the time we were waiting in a room. Unorganized.DUKE SRBad servic. Like there roads.Mary Lynn SobolSeacoast Chevrolet is the facility where University Hospital brings their vehicles for repair. As of this date the amount due to us is $12,951.08. I’m wondering how long it will take to pay the amount due to us. Surely, we would be in collections if we owed this amount to them. Extremely poor business practices.Fatima ToureI wish I could give them 0 stars. They had my son’s life at risk. I went to their ER one night because my son was feeling really sick. They didn’t even check my son correctly and just assumed that he had Sinusitis. We spent 7 hours in that cold place to come home and see my son get worse. If it wasn’t for my motherly instincts my son would not be with us right now. I decided to take him to a hospital in NY and he had a SEVERE case of staph pneumonia. My son nearly lost his life. If I could sue for misdiagnosis I definitely would have. My suggestion to the hospital is to take CT scans for babies ESPECIALLY if you have no idea what you’re doing. They need to hire better healthcare providers.Catherine ByrdIf I can give this place a “0” I would. This is ridiculous waiting in Pediatric Emergency room for 3 hours. This is unacceptable especially for a department dedicated to treating children. The Board of Directors, supervisors, etc need to oversee what’s going on. Do you want someone child to die before you take action.ramon cerdaI give it one start because there is not a choice for 0 stars, this people charge me money, they say if i didn’t pay they won’t take care of me… so we got to the point in which as a society we are willing to let someone die for $25 dollars, what about those who go to the emergency room, with nothing in their pocket, they don’t deserve to live….? This hospital gives a bad service, long waiting time and on top of that doesn’t do the job right… worst hospital I’ve visitedJanice WincklerHad to be transferred to this Hospital from the East Orange VA ER as my husband was needing a procedure that couldn’t be done at the VA. Unfortunately this was the nearest. Over all we had the procedure. After we spent hours in the vasc lab Dept waiting for a bed. We where told that they had to clean his room so we patiently waited. Which I can fully understand it’s a busy hospital. But finally once we were brought to the room and we walked in it smelled like subway and strong urine to say the least. Once accommodated I noticed the floors around where the bed was hadn’t been mopped look like for days .I proceeded to take pictures. As well as in the bathroom the floor once again had soap grimmed to the floor that again seemed like had been there for days. You’d think this hospital would be on top of these things. So imagen all the rest. Unsattifactory to any health department none the less a hospital. I pray neither my husband nor I catch anything in here as we have to be here. On the more positive side if any at all out from hospital of course the EMT personnel who picked us up at the VA and transferred us here they where amazing perfessional very helpful and above all gave my husband superb attention. I wish I had got more info on them as they should be recognized for there incredible service. Once again I would not recommend this hospital on the primary fact that the lack of cleansing for a hospital are beyond below satisfactory . And well as to the Customer Service axpect from staff fails all expectations. I would have loved to post the pictures I took while at the hospital but the site only allows for you to write your reviews and well wish I had recorded our every contact with the staff here only to prove my review.Elixandra DividuI wish there was zero for rating! This people are unbelievable. Unprofessional and rude. I was waiting for three hours and when i got a bed stood there waiting for another two hours with my daughter. I asked the nurses and they look like at me like I’m crazy because im asking for help. Then the only professional there was the interns, no head doctor overseeing them. They didn’t even know how to put an IV line, they just practicing with patients and do not give a %%#^*, many hipaa violations they talk about others because they don’t know the language, and they talk so much about their personal life like do your job!! People there waiting for more than six hours. DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING YOUR KIDS HERE!!!
