Before you go to University of Michigan Hospital, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Ann Arbor emergency room think.
cepetch⭐️⭐️The waiting is no joke. Hours and hours to get a bed when my elderly father had a brain bleed. Once he got a bed it seems like the nurses all just sitting at computers. No sense of urgency at all. Hanging around, talking, when the ER was FULL and all beds full. Why are they all sitting around on computers?? No wonder the place is full – they work at a snails pace.Therese WolakNever thought that I would rate this hospital so low. Used to be a top notch place that I referred everyone to. My husband and I live over an hour away, but would never have thought to go anywhere else. Sad to see such a decline. The only thing good about our experience was the nurse who administered the tetanus shot and the admitting staff. Wait time after being admitted was way too long, and it wasn’t really busy. My husband’s bandage on his finger, which looked like a 2 year put it on him, fell off in the car on the way home. He was told to keep it on for 24 hours, and it just slid right off his finger! We will not be driving the distance nor recommending this hospital to anyone again. Can’t wait to see the bill for this terrible experience.Christopher NaebeckWent in gasping for breath. The care I received was not only slow but wrong. It took 7 hours to run tests and get results. In the meantime without knowing the problem wanted to treat with meds. One of the nurses wanted to administer morphine for pain. Although I refused, she injected it in my IV regardless claiming it was a flush. Complete violation of my rights. Supposed to be one of the best hospitals in the US. Simply doesn’t measure up.Toby CurrieThis place takes 9 hours to determine if you have the flu or not. I attend this university, and I’m officially never coming back to this hospital. We ultimately decided that nothing was going to be done about what we came here for, so we asked for our discharge papers, and the nurses said that it’s up to the doctor to write our discharge papers. So we were imprisoned in our room for hours on end because some doctor was too busy to let us out. I am never telling anybody to come here ever again.Ian Collier⭐️⭐️The emergency unit can be packed with people and wait times can be outrageously long especially on the weekends. It’s very frustrating when you or someone is in need so I do recommend avoiding this place as a first choice. The staff was very nice.Kenrick St. AmieIf you are willing to wait 6 plus hours for care this is the place for you. I was stuck in the hallway for 6 hours before a PA came to see me. Do not come here unless you are dead. The wait is not worth it. The only reason why I waited so long is because I literally could not walk. The wait here would literally make you go insane. I asked the nurse for some water and she is still working on it. I think it is in their training to find ways to make you wait, so again I’m going to tell you don’t come here unless you are already dead because you will die from the wait.S. G.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️First visit to an E.R. a few weeks ago. They took vitals and I sat for 4 hours before a doctor saw me. Staff and doctors were fine. Nurse was nice and joked about us jousting with another patient as I was rolled out the room for a test. Beds are good, you get a tv (which helps with the wait for test results) and the nurse got me a menu when I told her I hadn’t eaten in hours. My meal was surprisingly cheap. I walked out the next day. To those that treated me that night in the e.r…thank you.peter paul⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedUniversity of Michigan emergency is a great hospital in downtown Ann Arbor. They (nurses & doctors) take great care of there patients and are very calm. U of M hospital is a very clean facility.BrookeMy first and only visit to this ER and they did a lumbar puncture and caused a spinal csf leak. Which can happen, of course, but needs dealt with. Instead of dealing with the spinal leak they left me miserable in a bed for over 20 hours and ignored me. I was already dealing with brain surgery complications. The nurse actually laughed at me as I sobbed and she refused my demands for the neuro team and even a patient advocate. I finally just begged to go home. Less than 2 days later I was taken via ambulance to Providence in Novi and within 3 hours they did a blood patch, fixed the spinal csf leak, and I went from being unable to even sit up to walking out of the ER. To that last nurse and ER doctor I dealt with…you should be ashamed of yourselves. Kindness and compassion go a long way, and if you got your head out of your rear you wouldn’t have missed something so easily fixable.Vidyadhar PaiThis place is like a mechanized meat shop. Michigan Medicine has really mastered how to make humans feel like farm animals waiting at the slaughterhouse. I’m from India and I swear I’ve received better treatment at just about any hospital I’ve ever been to in my life. This place is the worst medical establishment I’ve ever seen. Average wait times are in excess of 10 hours. Doctors routinely refuse to see patients, nurses won’t tell people what’s going on, people change shifts and the staff here actually forget that there’s someone in a room. I’ve seen nurses walk in to a room with patient in tow and be like, what are you doing in here because the previous nurse didn’t tell them what they did with their patients. Nobody cares and these people only want to pump patients full of drugs to pacify them and not deal with them. I really hope someday these jerks will receive a taste of their own Michigan Medicine. I can completely understand incompetence but the nurses and doctors here are just inconsiderate and really conceited. Also, the bathrooms stink.Torri Kilbourn#5 hospital in the US needs to get it together. No complaints about staff or doctors but they certainly have a glitch in their ER system. I’m a nurse and this treatment process is a joke. My husband has been in this ER for over 12 hours and has yet to see an actual Doctor. 10 hours just to get a ct and still no results. Haven’t seen a nurse in almost 3 hours. Even after paging and asking for his nurse it’s still been over 10 min and no one has come. How long should a person sit in pain before their care becomes important to this hospital. He has awesome insurance so it’s not that. Just poor time management and or understaffed or maybe to many patients. What ever it is someone needs to fix this ER!Brian AlvarezI went to the University of Michigan emergency room with respiratory issues. They were busy. 70 people ahead of me I did not receive any care for hours and I ended up going home. The following day I went to the iha on Jackson road. They relieved all of my symptoms and was alarmed at the condition I was in. as much as I love the university I will not be going there again for any emergency issues. Go to St Joe’s or Chelsea emergency room it’s worth the drive.Dan Roberts⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedTook very good care my elderly motherAlmaz MasrIf there is a Michigan Game, DO NOT GO TO THIS ER. DRUNK PEOPLE HAVE PRIORITY OVER EVERYONE ELSE AT THE ER ACCORDING TO ANN ARBOR CITY ORDINANCE. Yes, you read that right! DRUNK PEOPLE. Don’t believe me? Call and ask! The resources wasted at this hospital are astounding! And it is a FELONY to assault a nurse, but at my last stay I saw it happen in front of security several times!!! And they did NOTHING! Don’t even get me started on MSSU Blue. Do yourself a favor go to Beaumont Royal Oak, ranked 11th in the nation. U of M is 14th!TobiasAbsolutely terrible experience. We were there for a minor but painful skin lesion which took 5 minutes to treat…we were there for 8 hours!!! For the most part, no one was interested in giving us any information. Once admitted to the actual ER, which took 4 hours, we were pretty much forgotten until a new shift came in….If at all possible, try to avoid this ER.Stacy RiojasThis place is so far a joke we’ve been here for 3 hours and still in the waiting room. People are spitting up all around us and the staff are rude and slowSusan Ghent⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI always get the best care there.White Trash⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedHad a medical condition and these folks were the greatest. Great service, very caring and very affective. They got my health condition going in the right direction for healing fastLindsey Mckenzie⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExcellent care!! I’ve worked in the medical field myself and this is the best Emergency Room I’ve ever been to. Nurses, techs, EMT student and ultrasonographer were all kind, compassionate and on top of my care. The PA and the attending physician were outstanding. They spent ample time discussing my plan of care and actually listened to my thoughts/ concerns. All of my labs and X-ray/ Ultrasound were done efficiently. I am very thankful for the wonderful care.Steve FeinmanOnly way to get service in a reasonable amount of time is to be rolled in on an ambulance gurney. We were referred here by one of the specialty units to expedite testing. It would be fair if Michigan Medical staff were required to receive some medical care through the emergency room. Perhaps service would improve.Amber P⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFantastic experience. Everything was stream lined and efficient in the process. I’ve never been to such a clean and well organized hospital. All of the doctors and nurses were very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable of the problem. I would go out of my way if I needed a hospital in future to go back here if I had a choice.Cloveranime16670The doctor was very nice and attentive but kept getting called away because they seem to be under-staffed and so was the PA. The people from radiology were also friendly and knowledgeable. The nurses were terrible. They would be nice to our faces but would quickly forget about us as soon as they left the room. Probably because all they seemed to do was gossip about other patients right outside our room! One of the nurses was very unfriendly. She barely responded to my mom when she asked questions and didn’t even smile politely. The nail in the coffin was when we asked for a wheelchair so my mom wouldn’t have to walk back to the valet parking. The unfriendly nurse left it outside the door. I had to push my mom in the wheelchair with one arm and drag her walker behind me with the other. We passed at least 20 staff and none of them helped or made eye contact. Some random male nurse in the hall finally pushed the walker for me. I would not recommend going here unless you are dying and it’s the closest choice. So unprofessional.Donna Stiles⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedDespite how busy the ED was last night, the entire staff from the minute we stepped in the door were amazing, thorough and compassionate in caring for my daughter.Brad⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedFamily member received top notch care in the critical/ICU ER. Dr. David Hackenson was very knowledgeable and took the appropriate time to explain the situation to the decision makers regarding the steps of the care being delivered and possible alternatives. His professionalism and compassion at the same time were a real blessing in a time of high stress. He even stayed after his shift to touch base and speak with our family. Valet service at door is a great idea and allows for a worry free visit. Thank you!Bruce Geffen⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedStaff was very helpful and informed.reyad kadryThis place is why no star reviews are needed. The employees here are very in to themselves. There are more social workers and paper pushers than medical staff. This hospital doesn’t believe in pain care, which is fine, but they also have zero sense of urgency. You will wait for a very long time in agony until they figure it out..if they figure it out. Then you will wait weeks to months for referrals. If you’re a guy you’ll be last on every list and wait much longer. They have excellent drs, first world equipment and staff but they give third world care and treatment. It’s real sad if this is “The Best in Michigan”. Good luck I hope this helps.Kim Nicc⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI received excellent service here. The staff was friendly and caring. The registration guy even made me laugh, and the nurses were so sweet. The doctor and nurse kept me up to date on the progress of labs, treatment plan, and options. While there were other patients there, I was out in 2.5 hours. Also, they have a complimentary valet service, so no need to worry about parking.Stephanie JonesCurrently here been here over 2 hours sitting in the hallway on a gurney in front of nurses station ..where another patient is in a bed next to me barfing ..Ive had a nurse and physician assistant look at me no privacy at all!! While talking to me about my issue answering phones..registration was a joke computer locked him out he started to throw a tantrum like a child smh this is insane!Abrish KoubaMy girlfriend and I’ve been here for the past three hours and we still haven’t seen a doctor!! And it’s a Monday?!!! This is supposed to be an EMERGENCY ROOM?! Pathetic smhRichard Westcott13 year old with double compound in his arm sat for 2 plus hours with a neck brace on, and not allowed water while waiting for the doctor. Knowing as soon as we walked in he needed a CT scan. We had to wait an hour and a half before the Dr. assistant ordered the CT. Then an hour later they come in to tell us no CT needed. Yet he still can’t have water and must continue to wear the neck brace until after the Dr does his evaluation. What in the world? Left the ER in Chelsea at 10:23 PM via ambulance because the UofM had an orthopedic on staff that could see us right away. 1:59 AM no Dr, no Ortho, no water, still has annoying neck brace on that continues to rub the bleeding sore on his neck. He did get a shot of Morphine and a promise the Dr is out making a round, “wont be long. I promise” 2:19 AM nurse checking vitals, no Doctor, no Orthopedic. 2:29 AM seen Doctor, got neck brace off, no water until after they review the blood labs from Chelsea. Dr states “I see ghag you already seen Ortho” we haven’t!RJ MacouteER nurse named Dana was very unhelpful and unprofessional after I hit my head. Supervising physician apologized but it still left a bad impression.lawrence brykI took my son to emergency with a specific request to have him seen by certain doctors. In spite of the fact that he had no physical trauma, they had 4 different people interview him, taking 4 hours, before sending him where he obviously needed to go. By that time it was late in the evening and we just gave up. Thanks, guys.Jo Hyeri⭐️⭐️I guess this is not only u of m but entire US…these staff are hard workers… but have to say. If you need medical help, find a flight ticket. Some civilized countries actually figure out the problem and cure it – you don’t have to pay this much for “use more advils”.Ray Ray⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe best experience I ever had in an emergency situation. The staff went above and beyond expectations ( thank you Jacob H. PA , Jason RN, Margaret RN, and all others in B1 and 1). It is no surprise your number 1 in Mi. Much respect and thank you again.Jacob HergetI’m going to give a review of my experience while it is still going, since it seems like I have so much time to just sit and wait. I was taken back by a nurse at 10:30. I have kidney stones and in a pretty decent amount of pain. I was not wheeled back to get it checked out until 12:45 when they took me to do an ultrasound….. They should do a CT scan. In the ultrasound they found my kidney stone that had fallen. Wheeled me back to my spot in the hallway (really, a hallway is where you keep your patients?) It is now 2:30am and I have still not seen a doctor. Only under qualified nurses who are more interested in collecting my insurance than my comfort and would rather talk about shoes than talk to their patients. Overall I am incredibly disappointed in UM as an institution and this is a horrible example of what I thought this place was all about. Whomever leads this part of the hospital needs to be replaced. I have never been in a situation like this where I do not feel like I am getting the proper attention and am ultimately scared they will miss something because honestly, they don’t care. Still waiting to see a doctor and all I hear is laughter from personal conversations down the hall. Edit: at this point I could’ve driven across the state to Ludington and have been treated before seeing a doctor here.Elizabeth AlvarezThey do everything but their job.Karen BaileyI hope my husband dosen’t die before he gets seen! Been here for 3 hours and they cannot say when he will be seen? I should have called the ambulance to get him. Maybe he would be seen sooner. Thinking about pulling him and taking him elswhere. DisgustingMy TruthTo think this is one of the “greatest” hospitals in Michigan is clearly a joke. Was totally misdiagnosed, was not tested properly, had to wait 6 hours before being seen, nurses at triage were extremely lazy and rude and I had a twelve year old dealing with my case. Then had to revisit because of the misdiagnosis the following day for the same reasons and I was basically dismissed and sent home. Because of them not doing the proper tests and checking more into what was going on, I may have avoided the several rounds if tests I have now and I still wouldn’t be suffering today, they could have fixed the problem sooner. Thank God I actually followed up with my Dr, because for what I was diagnosed with, most likely I would not have followed up and things would have only gotten worse. I would never ever recommend this hospital. It’s not the cleanest either, and seems as though their doctors and nurses have a bad problem about putting gloves on. Make sure they wear their gloves!! MERSA can kill you.Angie GarrisonAbsolutely ridiculous. Here for three hours now. In the waiting room. The doctors may be fantastic but the waiting room is a joke. All my doctors are U of M doctors so I like to come here for that reason. The last time I was here I walked out before being treated. Looks like I’ll be doing the same today. JokeLisa MaioranaTerrible experience last week at this ER. Been to many hospitals in my lifetime and this place was the worst. Wait time was super long – unfriendly and downright nasty staff. Won’t be returning.Jordan GummThis is a review of the administration, not the employees. Everyone has treated us nicely, but patients are packed into hallways and storage spaces. It’s completely overrun, and even patients that have been admitted (wearing gowns and in wheelchairs) are placed back into the waiting room. It’s absurd that such an environment exists. Put some more money into more bed spaces or something.Carolyn Dennis⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAnn Arbor, you have no idea how lucky you are to have this ER. They’re kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Thank you nurses Christy, Robin, and Chuck!Michael Christie⭐️⭐️The ER is fantastic! However I’m giving 2 stars because of the valet and admin that refuse to look into items getting stolen from my car. Police report filled due to vape pen being stolen from consol. They’re coming for your things when you’re looking for medical treatment. Total scumbagsHarleen AthwalI waited 3 hours to see a doctor and ended up leaving. The clinic is over crowded and they obviously do not have enough staff to attended to patients.Jake L⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER Recommendedeven when I am at my at my worst this place does wellcrazy canadian72Horrible slow no one in waiting room brought me right back took blood and they disappeared. It’s been 1 hour 30 mins no doc no nurse still waiting about to leave 250.00 copay for this there is no one else in here. They told me extremely slow night….. wowDeepak Makhija⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExcellent staff, they immediately took care of my wife. I highly recommend their ER compare to other hospitals like St Mary’s & others.Kathie MasonTaking your vitals at arrival triggers an outrageously high visit fee. DO NOT come to this ER unless you are not breathing or bleeding to death. They pack patients in to the point of people standing and wheelchairs blocking pathways. Worse they keep admitted patients in the ER due to a lack of space in the hospital so even if admitted you may spend hours and hours in the ER. Even worse, when this happens the people waiting for emergency treatment sit in the waiting area for 4, 6, 10 hours or more! They need to increase the number of beds in both the hospital and the ER and perhaps offer urgent care on site 24/7. The other hospital clearly advertised a goal of being treated and released/admitted within 3 hours. You likely will still be sitting in the waiting area 3 hours after arriving in the ER at U of M hospital. If this is what a top notch hospital looks like, we’re screwed!Laurie TorresI took my daughter to this hospital, (She is prone to panic attacks and seizures due to her blood sugar dropping). MY initial impression was that the medical staff would their best to get her immediate medical attention, but boy, was I wrong! The medical staff could clearly see that my daughter was very scared and shaking. Rather than trying to calm her down and assure she was safe, they took her into a private room and patted down by a (very rude) police officer (without her consent). Her personal belongings were taken away from her and she was told that the medical staff that they were just “Keeping her items safe for her”, when really, the police had completely searched through them! (She DID NOT have ANY drugs, or ANY illicit substances on her!) She a total number of 5 hours hours in her “room”, if you could even call it that.. She asked the nurse several times if she could finally responded by saying “We already told you that the doctor is far too busy to deal with you.. And stop crying! The patients and the other nurses are sick of it!” And than proceeded to throw (yes, throw) a pile of blankets at her head. She received ZERO medical help. ZERO prescriptions were written to help her calm down…not to mention the we are now getting billed over $1,700, all for my daughter to be treated like garbage, told to shut up and several hours in her room completely wasted. I am beyond appalled by the “service” that my had daughter experienced here. She left the hospital in FAR worse condition than when she came in. If you are thinking about going, or taking a loved one to the UofM hospital, PLEASE, PLEASE reconsider!! I’ve taken my dog to better hospitals than this one is and ever will be!Clayton PetersonWorst experience of my life.. Had me hooked to an iv sitting next to the front door of the building, very unprofessional… Don’t go here unless you absolutely have too… On top of a 10 hour wait until I got to my room…Darius ParksThe way doctors are treating us sickle cell are just not cutting it anymore I keep leaving mad and not saying anything but that has to stop I had a very rude doctor today hope I don’t ever have him again in my life doctor Carter Treatment was very rude and unprofessional I know that it’s really only blacks that has this but making it about drugs is something I never went through if I tell you I have meds at home and they are not working you still trying to give me the same thing should let you know that I’m not just here for drugsREC1 Productions⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThis hospital and it’s staff are NUMBER 1 in my book! From the maintenance dept. to the ER, to the Nurses on the floors and to the surgery and especially the SICU staff! They are by far as professional as they come! How do I know? My life was saved there with a liver transplant! But the way they handled me and spoke to me and cared for me, is why I give them 5 Stars. I was treated with so much respect and care, it goes beyond words. I must have met at least 20 doctors and as much students or more. I met nurses on the 5th floor and SICU that were the top shelf in knowledge and work ethic like I’ve never seen before. And I’ve had, 8 operations from several different hospitals. So for me this hospital located in Ann Arbor is my 2nd home, because that’s how good I felt staying there. Thank You Staff and thank you Michigan for saving my life!Grayson Kennedy⭐️⭐️I had to wait in the emergency room for 19 hours and they still said they didnt have a bed for me.jo Richardsonive let me just say im a very sick women who came for help maybe some answers.well because of meds imim on and my past the nurse took it apon herself to label me for someting i wasnt there for or needed help with they went threw my personal things i now waiting to here from the courts i think it should go threw the doc before actions are taking the doc even said he aplozed and didnt think it was necessary im very upset will never trust u of m again…Austin Conway⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAwesome experience! Staff is great.justin fix2 hour wait to be seen for secound degree burnsJason Gibbons⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedReceived fantastic care here for my viral infection. I came in around 2am with trouble breathing and was admitted instantly. Many other ERs will make you wait forever to be admitted for breathing problems but breathing is a priority at UM. After being admitted I received fast and attentive care. Couldn’t be happier with the care here. Docs and nurses were super friendly and accommodating!Shipper Flipper – Marco Mazzetta⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedProfessional friendly staff. Anyone who gives an ER less than 1 Star is an A Hole.YevgeniyIf possible to avoid, please do so!!! It will be absolutely the slowest experience of your life. There is no apology or some sort of show of empathy for such a delay. These people take pride in doing things so slow over there.Alis Mazur-The setup of this hospital is horrible. There aren’t enough rooms, so they had patients in gowns waiting in the waiting room. -I was sent to the ER with suspected ectopic pregnancy symptoms. The two ER doctors (Dev and McWeeney) that saw me didn’t take my concerns seriously or even look at my past week’s hcg levels (which I had done because my doctor suspected an ectopic and wanted to monitor me). They diagnosed me with a UTI and tried to send us on our way. As we were leaving, McWeeney came in and acted pretty snobby about how the OB wanted to “bless me” before we could leave. Thank goodness for the OB Fellow (I forgot her name) who actually knew what to look for and quickly diagnosed me with an ectopic pregnancy. I got my two doses of methotrexate and sent us on our way. I understand that Dev and McWeeney aren’t specialists, but you’d think you’d want an OB for a suspected OB problem. We were also there for 8 hours. At least the OB Fellow caught the ectopic as it can be dangerous, along with our wonderful nurse Linda who also took our concerns seriously. I hope you don’t have to go there as these two ER doctors clearly don’t know what they’re doing and easily overlook a potentially life threatening situation. -On an ending note, besides the two doctors, all the other staff were fabulous and caring.Eric McCauslandIm un severe pain for an abscessed tooth and they stuck me in the fricken corner. Been here almost 2 hours and not even one doctor. I understand its a hospital but my pain is just as bad as the dude that broje his foot. Fricken help me!Bob Even⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedIt’s a great hospital the people who mad are ether hate Michigan or was a non important PatientDDT Grisch⭐️⭐️⭐️I would have gave a 4 or 5 star, but they left me hanging at the end.
