Before you go to Upstate Medical Center, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Syracuse emergency room think.
Adam SchmidtNurses and most staff were lovely. One of the doctors, however, didnt want to give me pain meds for shingles (one of the most painful conditions), made a rude comment then sent me to a closed pharmacy to pickup the prescription.Jillian DrockThe people are nice but they were so frazzled by how busy it was they never gave me a full exam. They stuck me on a bed in the hallway . The Dr guessed what what wrong gave me pain killers with no imaging and sent me home. Im still in pain 9 hours in total for no answers There is no organization at all.Emily NelsonHands down the worst place to sit in pain for 4+ hours. None of the staff even know how long of a wait it will be.timothy bartlettshowed up suffering in physical pain left suffering in worse physical pain and with mental pain nowim stuck cant move and dont know what to do at this point i have tried getting the help i need and im still stuck in a bed in pain and cant take it any longer people go there with hope and leave hopelessPrincess PrincessIf only zero were an option. The nurses hang like a gaggle of geese just heckling patients. The doctors are scarce at best. Test wait 3 hours, test wait 3 hours, test wait 3 hours. I thought people went into the medical field because of compassion and a willingness/want to help people… This is no longer the case. It is just a money laundering operation. With these wIt times you would think they were paid by the hour…DakotaWent there yesterday. I have had an extremely sore throat due to being intubated for a surgery. My doctor told me to go since I hadn’t been able to eat or drink and had fainted from dehydration. I told all of this to the triage staff. They triaged me as a sore throat… It was 4 hours before I was brought back. The entire time waiting, the dizziness became worse and worse and I went to the triage nurses twice begging to be seen because I constantly felt like I was going to faint only to be told that there was nothing they could do. When I was finally brought back I was so dehydrated that the nurse had a hard time hooking me up to an IV. After getting seen finally the staff was great, but their incompetence at triaging me was dangerous.Nicole Schafer⭐️⭐️Was transferred here from another hospital with my (almost) 2 year old daughter. First hospital suspected an impacted bowel so they sent us by ambulance to the children’s ER. While the staff was friendly and the Child life specialist was FANTASTIC, I was a little disappointed in the general thoroughness of the Drs. They looked at the x rays and immediately told us she didn’t have an impacted bowel (awesome!) But besides general blood work and giving fluids, they did not run any further testing on her, even though I requested they check her stool sample because we had recently and frequently been around livestock (she had explosive diarrhea up to 10x a day for the last 14 days and was running a temp, was sleeping all day and completely refusing food and water) They sent us home with discharge paperwork stating she had a virus and dehydration. She was not any better a few days later when her pediatrician finally ran a stool sample. Turns out she had an E.coli infection and crypto sporidium (a parasite spread through livestock and infected water). She was prescribed a high dose antibiotic and was back to herself in about two weeks but was still upset that it wasn’t caught earlier…by her own doctor and two different hospitals.Hallie GarropyThis place is an embarrassment. People were waiting in the waiting room over TWELVE HOURS! Patients were crying and pleading for help with their pain and nobody seemed to care whatsoever. If you are ever in need of serious medical assistance, Upstate emergency department is NOT going to help you.GoosebyeIf you’re in a real emergency don’t go here. All the bad reviews are true. Unless you’re getting transported, expect to wait like 3-5 hours in the waiting room. Staff is usually pretty rude too. Edit! I actually wrote the original review about 4 hours into my visit and wanted to update my experience. I waited there a total of 10 hours. I went to a different doctor beforehand who told me I was pretty dehydrated and at the very least should go here for fluids and other testing. I arrived there at 2pm. They gave me an IV AND NEVER GAVE ME ANY FLUIDS. At about 10:30pm a doctor came in and told me that they had forgotten to send my blood tests to the lab. I could stay and get fluids while I waited or I could leave. An hour later the nurse came in with fluids. I decided to leave. 10 hours, a big bill, and no answer.Joe Demling⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedIn the Hotaling car accident response staff at emergency room were very proffesional and caring Thank You and God bless you.Anna Lysiuk⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe were transported here from another hospital. We saw the nurse and the doctor shotly after arriving there. Both nurse and doctor were very nice. Our child did better here, because this place is child oriented. The medical staff have a better understanding about developmental needs of a child when treating him. In case of an emergency, we would take our child there from now on.Terry ServissMy wife was brought in by ambulance and at,1:20 am we had two nurses on the other side of the, curtin that were louder than two drunks in a bar laughing and joking, totally unprofessional. Another person I think was part of,house keeping was, complaining about a,dispute,he,was having with his father and was using mother f…er multiple times. Will never be back. Everything on,either side can be heard that should be,private, example. Man next,to,us fell in a,bar.and, using cocaine .B18 was,our room for the, record.Alexandria HodgsonBeen sitting here in this uncomfortable waiting room for over two hours. It’s not busy at all there is absolutely no reason for it.Anthony SmallIf there were negative star ratings this is the place you would use them… the staff is more worried about socializing than actually do they’re job… service is super slow, and you have ask if you want to get any communication… its unreal! Don’t go here unless you have no other choice!Erin ChapaWe’ve literally been here 3 and a half hours and still haven’t seen a doctor yet.Naja BentonTerrible terrible terrible.. It’s sad how u wait for hours so others can go in front of you like your pain doesn’t matter& u like to spend 5 hours just chilling in the lobby.. Staff was rude & just not so caring.. I hope to never have to return to this hospitalChewieGreat if you enjoy spending 9 hours in the waiting room. Understaffed and overcrowded. Absolute hell hole.Diana Arterian⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedEveryone was caring and candid, did so much to help support me through a visit there. I was supremely impressed by the level of care.Michael Amadori⭐️⭐️Rude and lacking knowledge at front deskElizabeth LeeHorrible horrible place. Non of the physicians seem to know what they are doing as I waited hours just to be seen and diagnosed. Bill came up to an outrageous amount as I had to be consulted by numerous specialists (which seemed highly unnecessary). Please avoid at all costs.Ben GrimmI called an the automated serive hung up on me. This could be dangerous for someone who doesnt understand the United States.kevin bauterHorrible is too kind! Filthy waiting room and no service! When arrived there were 9 people ahead of me. An hour and a half later when I walked out to go to another er there was 15 people in the waiting room and no one had been called in since I arrived. Forget about hipaa, the nurse began coming into waiting area and rechecking people’s heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature for all to see. (This was at least the second time they were checked since they had sat in the waiting room so long without being seen!)Lalit ChhetriThis place is sucksMichael walpolePLACE SUCKS
