One of the OR nurses brought me more blankets as we went into the OR because she seen me shivering. He told my husband to see his primary doctor, which my husband had already explained that the doctor did not have any available appointments for another 3 months. He was prescribed pain meds and antibiotics but by the time it all ran out, my husband could not walk. He was throwing up, couldn’t eat or drink. He ended up seeing a gastroenterologist who was kind enough to have him come in because they could hear how much pain he was in over the phone. The gastroenterologist only placed her hand where the pain was and knew he was suffering from appendicitis. Google even told me it was appendicitis before we got the Colitis diagnosis from Jason Mook. My husband could have died. The gastroenterologist ended up calling a different Willis knighton location and made sure they knew my husband needed treatment right away & ensured they would not release him until he was completely better. Even the doctors at the other WK location treated him like he was exaggerating about the pain he was in and of course asking why he didnt go to his primary doctor. No one seemed to understand that it was right after Thanksgiving when doctors are usually backed up with appointments for 3 months. Once they confirmed he had appendicitis, everyone’s attitude changed and they couldn’t seem to figure out how he was able to function with a ruptured appendix for so long. Jason Mook was not the first “doctor” to misdiagnose him at WK. Another doctor told him he had a stomach ulcer. Other doctors couldn’t figure out how they missed such an easy diagnosis. Please understand the last place we wanted to go was an emergency room. But in an EMERGENCY, isnt that where we’re supposed to go? At first I was put in a room quickly. Had nurses attending to me. Then it goes downhill. The doctor walks in asks me what’s wrong, I explain, He says lemme see your teeth. I say I’d rather not. (I’m somewhat embarrassed of a tooth pblm I have in the front) and his reply. “What you have meth mouth or something” then leaves the room. Lab ppl come in. Take my labs. Then I never see anybody else until I’m discharged. Nothing I was concerned about was addressed. Nothing. They didn’t even take my urine. It stayed on the counter the whole time. Needless to say. They were slammed busy but no chaos, everything under control and everyone friendly. They LISTENED to us, took us seriously, and didn’t just play off her symptoms as a virus. In fact, the dr told us to seek further help. I went yesterday because as I was making lunch I got a bad pain in my chest, lightheaded, numbness in my hands and arms and was having breathing trouble. I get there, get taken straight to the room….that’s where it went down hill, I’m trying to give them the papers from my cardiologist and they didnt seem interested, and I told them my arms and hands were numb, my husband felt them and they were like ice cubes, well the guy trying to put an iv in didnt care when I told him just putting the tourniquet on hurt really bad from the numbness. Well I’ve never had trouble getting iv or blood drawn, but I was in the most pain I’ve ever felt and I’m sitting in the bed crying and every staff member in that room disregarded my cries asking him to stop because it was hurting, then he kept saying he blew the vein because the blood was coming anymore but kept trying to get blood, while I’m still crying for him to stop. While this is going on the “dr” comes in and was like what has you so worked up, I told him I’m not worked up I’m in pain from what the guy was doing. Then while he can see I was in pain asked why I was there, and I tried to calm myself long enough to tell him snd before I could he waived his hand like hurry up already. Then he acted like I was lying about having childhood cancer, didnt want to hear any of my concerns, and never examined me, just said its anxiety. Sent a nurse to give me an adivan shot, came back an hr or so later said I looked fine. I told him my hands and arms were still numb and he once again saud its anxiety snd even my husband stated that I clearly wasnt anxious, the dr brushed it off left the room and 15mins later the discharge nurse came in and gave me discharge papers, and rx for heartburn and allergy meds. Both of my arms are severely bruised from their horrible iv/blood draw people, and I’m honestly scared to go back to a hospital. How can multiple staff stand in a room seeing a patient in pain begging and staff member to take the needle out because something isnt rught and its causing significant pain and noone does anything. Triage and admissions were great and we were taken right away. However when the ER doctor came in he literally spent 10 seconds in the room, he did not exam the injury, put his stethiscope on my wife twice and the left. This ER was not busy. His lymph nodes were swollen to the size of golf ball. Which, is quite large on some one so little. The doctor came in looked at his ears and throat and declared it was just a common cold, There was nothing he could do, and left the room. The nurse or his PA came back in to administer an oral steroid. My husband asked for an explanation on why a cold would make us nose swell so much. His response was, oh, he didn’t go over that with you? He didnt offer an explanation either. My son was discharged, of course after we paid the $150 co-pay. This was Saturday night. On Monday morning I took him to his pediatrician. Her first thought was mumps, but he has been vaccinated, so she did a throat swab and blood work. She also, looked at his ears, he had bilateral ear infections and Strep throat. I’m am so furious, the ER doctor didn’t catch any of this. I understand strep is not Er worthy. But we didn’t know what would cause such large nodes. My son could have been on antibiotics already and getting better. Plus the $150 we paid to be totally dismissed. Take the time to drive the extra 5 mins to go down the road to Christus- highland. I have tried to contact the hospital with complaint. The head ward nurse, the doctors, nurses and assistants were attentive, diligent, patient, knowledgeable, kind, -everything you would pray for in a hospital situation! Also, the hospital was very clean and bright. I highly recommend them! The emergency room was quick, efficient, and very knowledgeable! Again-everything you would hope for. Side note: As for any hospital/emergency situation, don’t forget to be honest with your caregivers-the more information they have, the faster they can help you get well! First 2 times shumpert highland and last time to WK Piermont. Both ER and staff were grate. Went to Piermont because Shumpert wasnt accepting patents. The service was great. And alot faster than shumpert. How ever their claim fileing/billing department needs some edumacation. Cause i never heard a word from shumpert. BUT WK needed third party insurance form and couldnt get it paid for. this is why today i am being seen at shumpert highland ER. For something in my eye. She was in agony like few people have known. Doctor gave her something equivalent to tylenol 4 which did nothing for her pain. Was told if that doesn’t help, too bad, call your family doctor in theorning. The family doctor had told her to go to the ER earlier in the evening. These people won’t treat intracable pain. They did not completely treat me and made it as though I was inconveniencing them. Her Dr was concernrned about postop hemoorage and she went for 9 hours without seeing her nurse. When she did come in she made an ecxcuse for not being able to come in. She did not physically check her. Tbere was no hourly rounding. The L& D dept was amazing, but after that the care was sub par. Luckily I am a nurse and l took care of her. The post dellvery care was non existent.
