Before you go to Women’s and Children’s Hospital, you may want to know what the people who have already gone to this Columbia emergency room think.
Andrea Adair⭐️⭐️⭐️My husband and I are expecting our first child. I have been going to MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital and I love my doctor and the nursing staff. I’ve had blood drawn several times and I couldn’t ask for a better experience. Based on that, I would give this hospital 5 out 5 stars. However, their check-in staff/routine is horrible. Here’s why: Recently, my husband and I had an appointment for our 20 week ultrasound to find out if we are having a boy or girl. In the past, I have always received messages confirming my appointment(s). A week before the ultrasound, I received a message confirming what I thought was our 20 week ultrasound. The day came for the ultrasound and we were so excited. We get to the check-in and the check-in staff informs me that we missed our 8am ultrasound. The message confirmation I received was for 9:20am visit with our doctor. I shared the message with the check-in staff to show I never received a confirmation about the 8am appointment. I went into tears and was very upset. They were not able to reschedule that day so now we have to wait for another appointment. I spoke with my doctor about this situation and she asked me if I had heard of the patient portal or received appointment cards. I had never received or been offered appointment cards or been told about the patient portal. As we left the doctor’s office, the nurse advise me to get a depart summary for future appointments and she registered my email for the patient portal. Upon checkout, the lady I spoke to did not have a care in the world but I did request a depart summary and received that. After leaving, I gained access to my patient portal and reviewed my appointments. The 8am ultrasound appointment wasn’t even listed on the patient portal but the 9:20am appointment we had that same day was listed. I have been very upset over this. Out of all the appointments to miss and we miss the gender reveal appointment. I just want other expectant parents to know this and NOT TO RELY ON MU PATIENT PORTAL OR TEXT MESSAGES TO CONFIRM YOUR APPOINTMENTS. I should have asked for appointment cards after checking out at each visit, but I didn’t. With this being our first time going through this, we don’t know what to expect or how things should go. I feel it should be part of the check-in staffs job to offer appointment cards and depart summaries, but they don’t. They act like they don’t care about their jobs and their lack of interest in their work caused an unfortunate mishap. We had a whole day planned around finding out the gender of our baby and it all fell to pieces. On the bright side, we did get to listen to the babies heartbeat and our baby is healthy and I’m doing good and that’s what I am focusing on.Elvira SafarovIf I could rate this hospital a 0 I would. We came looking for my sister in law and they kept saying that they don’t have anyone under her specific name. I called the MU operation center and what do you know, they told me that she was there. In all honesty I believe they were lying to us. We drove 45 minutes just to see her baby and they didn’t let us through, even after I’ve called the operation center more than once, confirming that the mom and child were located at this specific hospital. I wished I got the nurses name that wouldn’t let us through so I could get her removed from this work place.Stacy Holman⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI can’t even begin to tell of all the wonderful things this hospital staff and doctor have done for us when our son fell and shattered his elbow. Dr Dan Hoernschemeyer is amazing. He takes his time to make sure all your questions are answered and shows genuine compassion and care for his patients and family. Every hospital staff we came in contact with from coming by ambulance through the ER to 2 days later going out the front doors everyone was friendly, helpful and upbeat. As most know doc n nurses usually work 10 to 12 hour shift sometimes your tired but you’d never know that by their faces or attitude. This hospital and doctor would definitely be my first recommendation!Tracy Kirsch⭐️⭐️Very disappointed in how unprofessional the nurses who attended my son and his partner during a test of her water breaking. It ended up being a false alarm and the nurse laughing with her colleagues about it is unacceptable. Women’s and Children, you should expect more from your employees. Very sad that these same nurses could be delivering day of arrival. Sucha vulnerable time with so much uncertainty. It’s shameful and we’re disgusted at the very least.Tiffany Ellis⭐️⭐️When the office called to schedule my son’s urology appointment, they never clarified what the visit was for (I had to ask). They were supposed to call 2 days ago to schedule the surgery but hasn’t. I’ve called 3 times and left 1 message but haven’t received a call back. There was a couple other things we didn’t like but weren’t that important. The only reason I am giving a 2 star rating and not 1 is because we really like the doctor.Alexander Harmata⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had an inflamed appendix and the doctors here were patient not to rush into surgery. The issue resolved itself with IV pain meds and hydration and I was discharged with my appendix intact. Decision making in the care of others I know in this hospital has also been good. Visitors and patients have a good level of access to each other and to entertainment. Nurses here are a mixed bag in terms of friendliness but mine were all competent.Tammie Knab⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedBest women’s and children’s hospital will do lots of test to find out what’s wrong.Ranetta Davis⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedBeautiful people ❤ Refreshing to be around such carding people. There survive is the best.Zada Francois⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI would like to Thank the 3rd floor Nurses for taking such Fantastic Care of my Daughter Brittney C. while she was a patient there. (Cami & Sarah) Thank You Again So Much. Sincerely ZadaC WAt first i found megan johnson to be great then i blown off after waiting 6 weeks for a follow up to end up seeing aome clueless doctor that only care about getting my birth control and that wasnt even what my visit was forKatina Heckel-BrundageHalf way into my pregnancy I switched to Boone because I didn’t feel like MU Women’s and Children’s were doing all the things they were needing to. Not to mention I had to see almost all of their Drs. Which I didn’t like. Staff wasn’t always the nicest. Andi didn’t like how if you neededd blood work you had to go all the way down stairs and on the other side of the hospital. Not the most convenient.sheena baskettIf i could, it would be no stars…I feel sooooo degraded… they didnt ask for me to put on a gown, they had the door open checking me out with my pants down, then the doctor told me i had 5 minutes to figure out what i wanted to do and i would have to leave because they have other patients to care for… ♀️ never againKrista WhiteMy sister was going to see Dr. Stephens she was worried about her and the baby and sent her to labor and delivery to be monitored for 3 hours with in 2 hours. They were sending us home to deliver while all this was going on they got her removed from the books to be delivered at home and now there is no induction date this is a high risk pregnancy and very stressful on the mother and child if you go to this hospital make you ask all the doctors that you are good to go because you will be in a messAntonio VivarThey are negligent my wife was literally screaming in pain because of losing a baby and tissue left inside her uterus she was filling up 3 or more maxipads with in an hour they treated her inhumanly she was laying on the floor and nurses and doctor where just coming in and asking ho she was doing she was clearly feeling really bad and they treated her as if she was just there with a headache one of the nurses who was pregnant seemed like she was grosed out because of how much blood my wife had and blood clots after 2 hours of begging for pain meds she finally got. A medice that was a joke for pain (tylenol) when she had already told them she had already taken that at home and did nothing to help her she told them she couldn’t move anymore because of the pain and they kept asking her to move and she was still crying in pain loosing blood and they were just eating and talking outside she had to push the call nurse 2 times in order for the pregnant girl to just go and ask her again how she was doing and did nothing to her they said She was welcome to leave the hospital if i she felt like it (she couldnt move ) she was still bleeding out and the doctor just came in after 30 mins and again ask her how she felt like seriously at that point she was just screaming for help and to get what ever was inside her they are the most inhuman hospital my wife have ever stepped in… the director must be a joke too.. thay can just watch people dying and they ask you how you doing they did not test her for blood infection nor did they do an ultrasound to make sure she had no tissue left inside her and the pain meds where a jokeDiana Miller⭐️⭐️⭐️My child had an EEG here a couple months ago. All of the staff were very friendly and treated us great. The person doing the procedure did a fantastic job of working around my sleeping son so that he would not have to be sedated. Everything went great until the very end when the tech said her computer was acting retarded. My son who was with me had autism. I have another son with Down Syndrome. I don’t get offended easily and will not call anyone out by name as that is not my goal here , but please educate your staff on the use of this word. It is no longer used to describe somebody with an intellectual disability and it is a hurtful word.Alex Decker⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWomen’s and Children’s hospital is the friendliest group of staff ive encountered. Their pediatric after hours urgent care is phenomenal. They get you in and out quickly! L&D nurses are compassionate. My son was just in the ER for breathing trouble and they were outstanding. Thorough, kind, and took us through everything. I never felt rushed. I knew my son was getting the best care possible. He was upset and they were so patient and calm with him. I feel very lucky to have a hospital like this in our city.Sarah Cranston⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe had a minor children’s surgery here. I was blown away by how well they handled all the “child” aspects of this. They gave us handouts and a coloring book weeks ahead to teach us how to explain to our kid what would be happening. They gave us a tour a few days ahead of time, and talked him through very specific details of what to expect. They showed him where he could pick out a superhero cape to wear, gave him an anesthesia mask to take home and play with (so he had NO fear of it on the actual day of), showed him pictures of what the doctors would be wearing and what the operating room (OR) looks like, let him sit in an actual prep room, discussed popsicles and tiger pajamas and the race car he would “drive” from the prep room to the OR. The same lady who gave us the tour (Erin, she’s amazing) was with him when he went to surgery, and kept him entertained during the few minutes it took for the sleepy gas to kick in. Get this: My kid will tell you today that surgery is fun. I can’t thank them enough for working so hard to turn a scary event into a non-threatening one that my kid remembers fondly, with no trauma or nightmares involved.Katherine MathewsFILTHY, the room we were in had a thick layer of dust some of the tables and dust bunnies visible from across the room. I’ve had two employees advised me against ever going there for anything, one was a cleaner and the other was an actual doctor that was on duty about six years ago. Today was a definite 3rd strike and I will never go backMyra MeadowsI took my son in for a severe allergic reaction, he’s in pain, severe itching, swelling hands, has a extensive history of severe food allergies, and these idiots did absolutely nothing for him whatsoever. Four hours wasted, probably a couple grand in medical bills, and they didn’t offer him anything to stop the allergic reaction, no benadryl, nothingLori Forck⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe staff at Women’s and Children’s we’re phenomenal! They were very thorough and made having surgery less intimidating!Breanna Hatton⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had a C section here and I could not have asked for a better staff throughout the entire experience! I was a last minute patient that they didn’t know and had lots of complications and medical conditions. They handled all of that and all of our questions, concerns, and emotions amazingly! It is now three weeks later and I barely have a scar and am so grateful for the entire staff I had there to help us through that week!alicia taube⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy daughter had a stillbirth a few weeks ago and the nurses on labor and delivery, especially Melanie, were amazing. They were so compassionate and caring throughout our stay. They referred to the baby by name instead of acting like the baby wasn’t a person. Was so impressed with all the items they provided her to take home in memory of the baby. This meant a lot to all of us.Hannah MichelleI saw Dr. Winn here during the end of my pregnancy and he was supposed to be my delivery and follow up OBGYN. A nurse practitioner did my delivery even though I had scheduled it beforehand to make sure Winn would be there. The woman was extremely rough and caused unnecessary pain and trauma. If I was wealthy I would make sure this man was blacklisted for life. I have had massive complications and injury, cramping that lasted for over three months, bleeding that lasted for over a month. I developed iron anemia after the baby was born as a result. Upon asking for another ultrasound I was told to take sudafed about it. I cannot put into words how it feels to be hurting intimately and feeling as though people are refusing to listen to you or give you care. It is both painful and infuriating. I can’t stand to be anywhere near this place because it has literally caused me PTSD. Nobody should ever go here or ever trust this doctor. Worst medical care I have ever received in my life. I didn’t realize that I would be figuratively finishing my pregnancy with the medical care equivalent to that of a third world country.Shamande SmithI have almost always a bad experiences at this facility if your a person of color keep your kids as well as yourself far away especially the emergency room, or if your not insured they’ll talk down to you. In 4 years I’ve never had a positive experience and I refuse to take my children to this facility.Dale H. RobertsSent there for lab work. Really hard to find a parking spot, long walk to lab down multiple halls, redundant check-ins required at several different places, not nearly enough seating in waiting area – which is important because of the slow service. I guess this is #MizzouMadeLynnette Shay⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER Recommended3rd kid just delivered and felling blessed still knowing if i ever need them they are always there even 2 hours away. best hospital around!Bud Gates⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWhen my 6 yr old daughter broke her arm, and Mexico hospital failed to catch how serious the break was MU Children’s got her in quickly as possible to fix it. They were some of the nicest doctors and nurses I’ve ever met in my life. They go to extremes to make the child comfortable. She even got a signed card from the doctors and nurses who took care of her a week or so after her surgery. Thank you MU Children’s for being a million times better than the worthless hospital in Mexico!Britton Knipp⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThey helped my brother so much when he was in the hospital. Thanks for all the help pediatric intensive care unit.Robert Lang⭐️⭐️⭐️Being a patient it seems OK. I wasn’t one my girlfriend is, but this place does not make it comfortable for the patients family, they start to close kitchen 2 hours early forcing everyone to go else where to feed the families and self I could list more than one thing wrong but I’ll stick to the kitchen staff. They need to be fired if there going to start closing down 2 hours early If you don’t like it you don’t need to work here, it’s your damn job. The nursing staff is great to my girlfriend though and i would like to personally thank Rebekah for taking real good care of my girlfriend through her pregnancyAmy Louise Meng⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI have taken my children to the ER here several times over the years. Always quick and caring staff to take care of anything. They are a blessing to our family and to everyone in need of emergency care. There is never a long wait like at the Main Hospital. We’re able to get assistance right away or with in minutes of arriving.Amy Stephenson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️We were triaged, seen and diagnosed within an hour and a half. Very efficient and sweet nurses and doctors were great! Thank you!lerc marieMy c section was an emergency one. On Thursday July 12th at 7:30am. I am 2 and a half months pp and it still hurts from time to time. During my c section I was shaking uncontrollably and I was wheeled out of my room to the or on my hands and knees screaming with my face buried in my pillow out of pure terror and none of the new nurses cared (there was a shift change 30 minutes prior) and when they were cutting me open one of the drs (Her name was Phyllis) she was an older woman on Dr. Theis’ team, was screaming at me to “get over myself, our job is more important than any pain you could ever feel right now you need to grow up” and that I was puking the wrong direction as she was turning my head. When I couldn’t even move from shaking so much. All I could do was scream and cry as I was shaking so bad it looked like I was seizing. Most traumatic day of my life because of that one nurse..In my situation it all happened so fast. There was only one Dr that cared enough to ask me how I felt (though he didn’t really help with that nurse) and it all happened in the first few minutes that my fiance wasn’t able to come in (except for when she was yelling at me for puking the wrong way because I was shaking uncontrollably) I was beyond terrified I couldn’t move, all I could do was lay there and scream and cry for my fiance. Not even my ob said anything to try and comfort me or to the other nurse to stop. That afternoon my mother in law came to visit us in the hospital and they had me breath into this thing (kinda like what you breath into like if you have athsma, which I don’t) and my fiance kept telling me to breath and I tried my hardest to get the thing in the tube to rise but I couldn’t for the life of me. And eventually I just broke, right there in front of both of them. I felt like an utter failure because I had to have a c section. Because of the way things happened and I had no one to be my advocate and I couldn’t do it myself in that state. In those first few moments I had no one. I looked at the nursery hoping that one of them would take my patient rights into consideration and only one of them even somewhat cared. I’ll never forget my mother in law’s kind and encouraging words. Especially after the second night I had a nurse wake me up at 2am because they had no record of me feeding my daughter just 30 minutes prior. It was the first time we had gotten her to sleep since she was born and she woke me up and she woke my daughter up and was holding her telling me I needed to feed my daughter already.. Boy I was LIVID!!!!! After I finish getting my last 2 vaccines in November I will NEVER return to that hospital that “specializes” in women’s and children’s health. And it’s a shame because I had a few terrific nurses who I will never forget. But in this case the bad outweighs the good and I cannot forget the way I was treated!! But I do thank God for the lovely nurses who took care of me before and after my c section (except for the two I previously mentioned) and for the sweet nurse who offered to watch out baby for us for an hour knt he first night she was born so we could get some sleep. As we had to take turns every hour holding her because she wouldn’t sleep a wink.Developmental Therapy Associates⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedWe just left MU Women’s and Children’s (W&C) July 2016. We are from new Orleans so out our zone of comfort. 14 year old son with orthopedic surgery (femur break) due to wave runner accident on lake of the ozarks (LO). Only complaint: Need to level up ER to accept pediatric trauma patients!! Had to initially go to MU University ER (from LO ER), and then 3rd ambulance ride to W&C. But the ambulance EMS staff from MU to W&C were well trained and wonderful. We would recommend W&C Hospital to anyone! Great Care. Clean rooms. Awesome surgeon, residents, nurses, aids, meals, and housekeeping! No complaints!! Just build it up to be a complete, and continued wonderful children’s facility for all of the area!Danielle Swartz⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe pediatric specialists clinic was by far the best we have been to. My daughter has a rare genetic condition and these doctors communicate and care. They explain things in a very considerate way and are so nice.Heather⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedThe friendliest group of nurses and doctors in my experience. I wish I lived here so I could have them for my doctors.Cheyenne Orr⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAlways great, friendly, and caring staff. Clean. Fast ER wait times.Chastity Price⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedExcellent Staff! Everyone was great there!John Strobbe⭐️⭐️The effort is here and the knowledge but the promptness of the ER is very very poor. Waiting almost 2 hours for an X-ray is rediculous. I an giving this a two just because the doctor was great.Giovanni L Jai Valentine⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedCause they treat you like caring people supposed to.Corey Burton⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedOutstanding care of all my children. My son nearly had the tip of his finger severed in a door and they had him in a room before they even knew what his name was. I highly recommend this hospital for anyone’s children. They are amazing and kind to both the children and the family.DinnearashVareesh⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedStayed here for 4 days with our little one. Excellent facility and staff.David GThey ask you to up 15 minutes early for your appointment and then make you wait around for over an hour before being seen. This business has no respect for their patients or their patients time.Neireida Morris⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy delivery was great! The NICU nurses and doctors were awesome the entire 3 months we were there. Great service. I’d recommend this hospital to anyoneJessica Hatfield⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery awesome people here. Great place for sure. The whole MU system is wonderful.Kimmy ColleyWe are usually very pleased with this hospital. However, yesterday I went to the ER & was soo frustrated at the lack of care that I left! I went in with severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea & abdominal pain. I was told by the resident & the doctor that they couldn’t do anything for me! Not to mention the only time I seen my assigned nurse is when I used the call light to ask for a box of cleanex!! I was & still am beyond frustrated!! I will be voicing a complaint!!Tisha Spencer⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy daughter was terrified of having ear surgery but the staff there were so patient with her. The rooms were very kid-friendly and our nurses and the liason as excellent and calmed her down. She wanted me to leave them a good review online because it was so important to her that others know how well she was treated.Skylar Waldrop⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedAmazing care! Came from IL for business and they took care of me really nice and were super nice !Mark Johnson⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMy son came in with a broken leg and was helped by at least 12 different professionals. Every one of them was amazing. The absolute best care I could have hoped for.Natalie Lybarger⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedMuch better experience than at our small local hospital. I would definitely recommend.Brenda Green⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedVery nice professionals work here.Christina Aldaco⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI’ve never seen an urgent care made just for kids..the doctor knew how to treat my four year old. She didn’t hesitate to let him treat her which is pretty much always hard for her. Instead of her crying due to pain in her ear she was actually laughing. Being New to columbia I didn’t know the best hospital to take her to. But I’m glad I found women’s and children’s. They definitely know how to treat sick children in pain.Krystal Rose⭐️⭐️⭐️Have had a great experience here over the past 2 years since my son was born. Nicu staff is amazing and so are peds. In 2 years we have had only one bad experience which was recently and my son ended up with a broken leg while he was admitted.amber martinHorrible experience. I will never come back to have another baby. Because of their incompatance both my baby and I suffered infections. My daughter ended up septic and in the nicu. The only good thing is we had a good nicu doctor while there. She wasn’t always on rounds but when she was we felt a little better. We eded up sick because they were in a hurry to get me out of there. They should have never broke my water when they did, they knew I was positive for strep B. I was no where near ready to have my water broken. Yes I signed the paper work stating that there could be complicating from it, but when it was explained and signed I was so doped up on meds I had no idea what was going on. Never again. From now on we are a Boone family. You put mine and my child’s health at risk just because you guys were in a hurry and we wereally taking up space.Jennifer Manjarrez⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedI had to go the hospital over the weekend for a kidney stone. I didn’t wait more than 5 minutes to get checked in and everyone there was amazing. The best hospital I’ve ever been to.April hager⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅ ER RecommendedSaved my daughters life when Our hospital was incompetent, wonderful nurses and Dr’s Dr rom has done all 3 of my daughters surgeries and is by far wonderful. If I have to stay at a hospital this would be the placeTenea⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The Hospital itself was awesome. Very thorough and persistent. Nurses are very caring, not just another patient to discharge they care about your well being. Oginally discharged with still a quite of bit of pain. I returned net 2 days and was seen in E.R. which the nurse in charge was very incompassionate. She told me you’re gonna just have to breathe through the pain.My pain was so bad nothing touched it. Dr Theiss and Dr Pitts were very persistent in finding out the cause of my pain. After the second CT they located the problem after having a pain level of 10 I finally went in for my emergency surgery. Thanks to Dr Pitts on the road to recovery!
